Not so. I can easily imagine that for many the act of posting here is no longer the act of a Knicks fan but an Ultimateknicks fan. The personalities here and the arguments that shape them are often only marginally about the Knicks.

Is hoping that your team loses abandoning the team? I'd say its a lot worse. It'd be better for all of us if you just went and rooted for the Celtics.

Riiiiiightt....

We must have all spend time here to talk about anything but the knicks. I have a feeling if this was ultimateknitting.com i doubt we would have the same kats here discussing knitting.

goood try though

Like i said, it's my opinion. That when isiah gets fired we will finally have a chance at being a real franchise again instead of a punchline.

and who are the "us" you are referring to?

you're allowed to disapprove of the way this franchise is being run & still root for the team to succeed.

No, thats the definition of a hater.

The best thing IMO for the future of the knicks, is for the knicks to not make the playoffs and finally fire isiah.

Then somebody with a plan might come in here and start to realize that the nba isn't the same as yahoo fantasy basketball. The last 3 1/2 years have been a nightmare on and off the court for this franchise.

We are all knicks fans, or else we wouldn't be here.

YEAH...um... you do realize that comments like this fly in the face of anyone claiming to be a true fan of the Knicks? How can the "best thing" for our future be for the Knicks to not make the playoffs?

I'm sorry but I just can't agree with that kind of take. I don't care if Isiah was Atilla the Hun, i'd still want this team to win. I don't like everything he's done now and I want nothing but success for this team.

I still want this team to win too, I truly believe that isiah will not be the one to lead us to a championship. I guess all i have is the last 3 1/2 years as proof.

Don't get me wrong, if the knicks win a title under isiah this year (or while he is here) i will be delighted and be the first to admit i was wrong.

But what of those here on record as saying they are rooting for the Knicks to lose but still bristle when someone suggests they aren’t a fan. If I were going to make proclamations of what is and what is not “allowed”, that would be something I would ban.

Damn You Rembee, you just don't understand! You can root against your team and be a fan as long as you know for a fact that the next regime will undoubtedly be better!

Doesn't that make perfect sense?

For example, some Chicago Cubs "fans" have been rooting against their own team for 99 years. They just know in their clairvoyant hearts that the next management team is the one that turns it all around...

Similarly, nobody cold be worse than Al Bianchi! I mean Scott Layden. I mean Isiah... ...

Got it?!?

oohah

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

I don't think anybody here is abandoning the team, or else they wouldn't spend that much time posting about them on a knicks message board.

Not so. I can easily imagine that for many the act of posting here is no longer the act of a Knicks fan but an Ultimateknicks fan. The personalities here and the arguments that shape them are often only marginally about the Knicks.

Awwwww, there you go telling us what a real fan should be and what most of us aren't.

Like I told you in the past, if you don't like it here, maybe it would be better for all of us if you found another place to hang out and talk about the Knicks. I hear RealGM is filled with "real fans" and the mods there don't accept any disgruntled fans.

Have fun.

Or...commenting on a line of argument already begun on the thread.

That is what you do on a forum, isn't it Mister DJ?

Doesn't a forum also offer varying opinions and viewpoints?

No kidding. After 6 years of losing, who here exactly approves of the way the franchise has been run?

You mean, besides yourself?

Rembee, would you rather the Knicks went won 33 games this year and 53 next year,
or 40 this year and 41 next?

If you say so.

How much talk here is really about the Knicks? How about this very thread, is it really about the Knicks, or is it about the political affiliations that have formed here and posters positioning themselves to protect the cyber-personas they have developed?

Why is it that when Marbury opens his mouth you know who is going to post to rag on him, who is going to defend him, doesn’t matter the subject. Marbury can’t hand out shoes without getting pummeled. Is that about the Knicks?

Why is it when the Knicks have a good pre-season game you can predict, to a scientific degree of accuracy, who is going comment positively on the game and who is going to say its “only preseason”, until the Knicks lose, of course, then those roles reverse. Is that really about the Knicks?

This isn’t a value judgment of the board, Mister DJ, it’s just an observation, and I don’t leave myself out of it.

I think some here have forgotten what it means to be a fan, and posting here has become a substitute they think allows them to hold on to some orange and blue affiliation.

But how can that be when you have forfeited your right to cheer should things go well? You think you would be able to do so just because you have been posting here on Ultimateknicks.com?

I can’t speak for others, but I won’t give you that pass.

Instead of hoping they can replace Isiah with someone with a clue, I suggest we all act like victims of abuse, and stay with the person abusing us but hoping things get better. Because that makes so much sense.

OR maybe the information now available that may or may not influence how one feels about certain things have changed "what it means to be a fan"

did we know about the cap and all trading intricacies back 15 years ago? no. we were just like "why can't we trade for micheal jordan." now we KNOW why we can't.

were all this abundance of stats available to us at our fingertips 15 years ago? heck, even 10 years ago? no. but now we have another piece of info to use (if we want to) to compare players and teams.

there are way more things available to influence feelings towards a team nowadays. it's up to each person if they chose to let those things change their view of the team. so the definition of "fan" has evolved. there are too many factors to keep it at a primal level.

so what's "lost" is not the definition of fan, what's "lost" is how one becomes a fan and how one stays a fan...there are way more variables thrown into the mix.

You hit the nail on the head, ooh.

As soon as Isiah is gone we will rebuild, so it’s ok to root against the team, right? But then, what if the next regime doesn’t. Or the one after that. When do you start rooting for the team?

When do you come to the realization that you aren’t a fan?

You just happen to leave out Ernie Grunfeld between bianchi layden, and isiah. I am sure it was just an innocent oversite, right?

If you are happy with the way this franchise has been doing things the last 3 1/2 years. That's your opinion. I have very high standards. I don't want my team coach, gm and vp to be found guilty of sexual harrasment and i like it when the guys i root for actually play hard all of the time. I am a dictator - i know this
