I love how the players want to dictate what style a team should play. AS we have seen over the last 1.5 years with the Knicks, NY still can't run! Yes, they run more but has anyone noticed the effect it has had on their defense? UP 4.5 points scoring and down 11 points in PA per game!! Carlisle is a coach. He will coach to his teams strengths. The Detroit team of this past year was not an offensive juggernaut, but it had great defensive talent. What the hell does Chauncey Billups know about it? Come on now.

AS for needing to have a ring to get the respect, show me Larry Brown's NBA ring, would ya? Or where is Don Nelson's for that matter? These guys get respect and for what? They HAVE NOT WON A THING in the NBA as coaches!

AS for JVG, it looks like his rep for being tough on young players is the reason he lost the Cleveland job. He will need to change that perception at his next job. Unfortunatley as Carlisle found out, even if you win, they can take your job away from you!

Playa as ususal , I don't get what you are saying? WHat did my post have to do with your question about young coaches lacking sense or being stubborn?

Great Defense wins championships. THe Nets have a PG who pushes the action and they play a good defnsive game with KMART, Jeff and Kidd being excellent on the ball defenders. The NEts have both, but if Kidd leaves you will see that it will leave them too.

Put Kidd on NY and they are a 40 win team last year. Non Chaney and all.

Ice, as usual you put playa in his place.

Carlisle didnt get stiffed, he got himself fired. On the exit interviews several players said they wouldnt play for him. He got into physical spats with high level execs, he pissed off so many people his own coaches told him to cool it or he was going to be out of a job. Carlisle told them he was untouchable because of his W's and didnt change, then got fired.

Thanks Fishmike, Now all you others can see the conspiracy to put my post's down by the jealous guys gony, pike, ares, karnavore, prodson to name a few. , I love that we have postas who aren't afraid to be their own man. THEY BELIEVE the lies about Carlye, but in all truth dude got to big for his briches and got bounced.

Just admit it fellas bundy, I mean Gundy let you guys down just like the knicks he promoted himself as knowlegable doing TNT games, but when he goes to the interviews he just can't prove to management that he won't ruin young players!

Whatever, Playa. As with everything, time will prove you wrong. You were nuts about Carlisle last year. You said he was a much better coach than JVG. Now they are in the same class.

As for Carlisle if Brown did not quit, Philly, how much do you want to bet that Carlisle and all his "baggage" would still be coaching in Detroit? They, the Detroit mangement, needs to make this look good so they are painting the picture as Carlisle being the bad guy. If that is true, then why did they keep him so long? They could have canned him as soon as they lost to NJ. Instead they waited for Brown to come along.

AS for your boy Jeff "I have been to more finals as a coach than Don Nelson" Van Gundy, let's just see where he ends up. Until then, stop saying you are right, becasue you are not. The facts are that JVG won more games as Knick coach than anyone except Red. He is a very good coach at the very least. Greatness requires a ring. You can say all you want about him, the fact remains that Ewing, Spree, LJ, OAK, Starks have nothing but good things to say about him. Those were his star players, that is what matters most.
