I think Stern is tied to this being his only proper action. He is bound to Dolan in that the commish works for the owner and he can't pass judgement until the finalality of the proceedings are all finished. Since its not a criminal proceeding there is no "absolute" finality to this matter.

Stern gets all worked up and takes action for Mark Cuban criticizing his referees, one of which was working with the mob to fix games, but he chooses to just sit there as Dolan and Isiah bring down one of his leagues flagship franchises.

Stern is a joke.

He makes a good point when he says he hasn't ruled out action but needs the judgment to be "final" before doing anything. If Cuban says something and it is caught on tape, there is absolutely no disputing he did it and he can be disciplined accordingly. Here the Knicks deny any wrongdoing and though they have been found guilty, there is a chance the decision will be overturned. It isn't fair to criticize Stern for this until we see what he does (or doesn't) do after the appeal has been handled.

Since when is a Court of Appeals the standard that Stern uses for punishment? Did he wait for Donaghy to be arrested, much less agree to a plea bargain, before he acted on it?

Will whatever happens in appellate court make this any better for the league?

I believe Donaghy immediately confessed after he was brought in and tortured by Stern.

He must have forced Donaghy to watch every Knick game from the past 3 years.

oh my.

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Per an interview from ESPN's SportsCenter...

http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/video/videopage?videoId=3086183&categoryId=2459788&n8pe6c=2

When asked, "How does the recent court case speak to the state of the Knicks franchise?"

Stern replied, "It demonstrates that they're not a model of..uhh..intelligent management. There have been...were...uhh...many checkpoints along the way where...uhh...where...more decisive action would have eliminated this issue."

Ouch.

Sterns and company have some nerve!!! Sterns with these crooks for refs demonstrates that they're not a model of..uhh..intelligent management. This stink with the refs I believe goes a lot deeper that what he cares to talk about and he is hiding behind the Knicks. He is using this to hide the wide spread of bad refs in the NBA. Sterns needs to get his house in order first. I see where he is going with this and he have some nerve.

You hit the nail on the head. The rouge ref said that there were more refs involved. We have the Mob fixing NBA games. Remember the 2006 NBA Championship that was some of the worse calls I ever saw. D Wad was never touched and they gave the game to Miami.
Sterns needs to clean his own house.

I totally agree, the 06 Finals were an embarrassment. A lot of those calls were a complete joke.

My understanding is that the court of appeals will only change the amount paid to Anucha. I am not sure if that is happening since the Knicks are going to court in two months to determine the amount owed to Anucha salary wise if she were going to stay on and finish her career as a Knick executive. This is in addition to the original 11.6 million she was already awarded. I think the only thing that can be changed is that 11.6 million number. I am not positive of this but it is my understanding from what I read when the judgement first came out and Isiah proclaimed that he would be found innocent in appeal.

Hardly, that served as a warning to the Dolan family and Cablevision shareholders and board of directors to stop dikking around in litigation.

Remember, Stern recommended that dolan interview Colangelo for the GM position a couple of years ago and Dolan told him to mind his BS, then he had to sit through days and days of the arbitration hearings with LB, and you can imagine how much he learned of the inner workings from that. He pleaded with Dolan time and again to settle quickly before wasting time and squandering the franchise's image, but Dolan dragged things out making a spectacle in front of the media.

Then came Anucha's suit, which Stern never wanted to go to trial. Win or lose it was an embarrassment to the franchise, but losing was intolerable. Now we have the appeal as an opportunity to rehash all their wrongdoings.

But we're not done yet, we also have the impending harassment trial by the Rangers cheerleader, which was filed even before Anucha's case. For those who don't know, when the cheerleader informed management of unethical conditions they declared nothing wrong was done and fired her for squaking.

Stern does NOT want that to go to trial for another round of Knicks humiliation, and a loss in that case would force his hand. Stern is sick and tired of this nonsense, why aren't you?

Would the NBA and David Stern be considered as having conducted intelligent management of its most vital component -

its referees?
