Well then why did people make a big deal when we traded Trevor Ariza?

There's value in those second round picks. No need to just waste them -- especially when you are wasting them in a continued effort to justify giving a max MLE contract to a waste of space like Jerome James.

Trevor Ariza made the team with no problem and had already proved he could make an impact in an NBA game. He was/is better than Nichols. And he didn't try to play hardball with no bargaining position.

If I recall, the big deal about his trade was people saying good riddance because he was delusional.

Losing Ariza really isn't any big deal. He's been replaced twice already.

Second round picks have value, but not much. They are traded like water, and second round picks are cut all of the time.

Nichols got what he wanted right? He asked to be released.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

And if he gets to play in Cleveland he'll have done pretty well for himself.

While I would've preferred to cut James, the truth is, Nichols would have gotten no burn this year. There are just too many players and we need an 8-9 player rotation. Maybe he could've gotten some time in practice, but from what I understand, his contract makes him a free agent next summer anyways. If he had stayed, no team would've seen him play and therefore he would've had no offers next year. At least this way, he may get to show his stuff on another team and increase his payday. Heck, we could even sign him next year.

As far as 2nd round picks, no big loss. You can see how easy it is to get one for some cash.

He must have the greatest job in the world. $6M a year to pretty much be fat, idle and do nothing.

Isiah just threw away 2 2nd rd picks by waiving Nichols. Knock Nichols' game all you want but you can't possibly defend Isiah throwing away assets like that.

It's absolutely insane how Isiah mismanages assets the way he does.

people who knock nichols game, only do so to defend isiah. I mean if anything, keep the kid, showcase him and then go to miami, LA or cleveland and say, if you like this kid, what are you willing to offer. I mean how many 6'8 shooters are there in this league, that can acutally shoot? or that have no value? To me this is a colossal waste, considering that we did it and have to keep jerome james.. what a damn joke..

When I get fat people say things like "Bip are those new jeans?", "Bip, your head is looking bigger", "Bip are you pregnant?". To date not one person has ever given me $6M.

Its disappointing that we couldn’t figure out a way to hold on to Nichols and Jordan. To let them go while retaining Jerome James is inexplicable. You just have to figure that this team has made so many poor financial decisions that our hands are now tied.

Reality is there is a limit to how many young guys you can hold on to when you are a team that is trying to win this season. Isiah must see Nate as a viable point guard for this team, and he is going to get run where Jordan would not have. Nichols has lots of guys ahead of him on the depth chart, including a rookie and a sophomore. Odds were stacked against him from the start.

It’s a shame, and its true that if either of these guys prove to be as productive as Matt Carroll it’s a move that ultimately hurts us. But we do still have our first rounder this year, and late 2nd round picks are not hard to acquire.
Its like a groupie website, or bitter ex-wives club. -Sebstar

I thought I remembered reading something right when we acquired JJ3 about how it was basically just to buy a roster spot on the Clips for Dickau once we waived him. I was keeping my fingers crossed that Isiah would keep Jordan since he reportedly loved the kid months ago.

It's just sickening that Big Game is still on the roster. He alone counts for the 3 roster spaces we just cleared up.

Matt Carroll was barely played by and was cut by Portland and San Antonio, and played in the minors before he stuck with Charlotte, and it took multiple injuries to Charlotte before he could get any run there.

It took him years of work to improve enough to get to the point he is now, which is a good bench player on a bad team.

I think Carroll then is better than Nichols now.

Jordan and Nichols can and maybe still will be invited to training camp next year. Lets see if any other team picks them up. And lets see the kind of contract they sign. I think Jordan could be available again. Nichols ... maybe.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Not sure what Nichols did to get waived except play really well- but we don't really value that here.

when carrol was in knicks camp he could shoot then and he can shoot now. Portlan cutting him means nothing because portland was basically a tire fire back then. The spurs? well I can see that, they were stocked.

Carrol is a good bench player on a bad team? year charlotte is bad, but no worse then us last year, that is for sure, and he is a legit contributor on that team, unless you think they gave him a multi year deal, near 30 mil, for just being a decent back up on a bad team. You can spin it how you want. Shooters in this league are at a premium, carrol can shoot, and nichols can shoot, plus he is 6'8 and showed the potential to be a good defender. We cut him, wasting a second round pick, and still keeping useless jerome james on this team. I really thought this team was trying to move forward... damn
