Is an edgy Knicks team identity in the works or was it all just an act for Dolan?

I'm just tired of playing this sseason's games with a defeatist mindset, in October no less.

Of course, no one knows which way the wind will blow with Nate. Like Herm said, "That's why you play the game". Nate could become an answer to a trivia question or the second coming of Tiny Archibald. Personally, I consider any demeaning or insulting name placed on any member of my favorite team as an act of treason.

but that's just me

with that said Marv...

do we have enough of a "core" of tough guys, and tougher (vocal) fans, that can send a clear message to visiting teams that you don't come into MSG anymore without bringing your A game?

Marv - if you look at the regular season games after the Denver scuffle, I don't remember many instances where the team mailed it in. Sometimes, it still just comes back to available talent. There were some important Knicks players missing in March.

I have a revolutionary idea. Let's cheer Nate's development.

earl, i'll cheer nate's game last night. i'll hardly cheer his "development."

against philly: 1-8 fg. 0-3 3's. 1 assist. 3 TO's

against boston: 0-4 fg. 0-3 3's. 0 assists. 1 TO.

against nj: 0-8 fg. 0-3 3's. 1 assist. 1 TO.

Here's the choice: You can either decide to be supportive of a young Knicks player, no matter how problemmatic he has been in the past. Or you can continue the convenient route of celebrating each and every flaw with the patented, "I told you he was crap" routine.

Earl, are you sure thats the choice? Surely you can grace us with some better insight than this "be supportive of a Knicks player, no matter how problemmatic he's been in the past" crap. You do realize that being a "Knick fan" doesn't necessitate you rabidly "supporting" every player, right?

Nate is an incredibly flawed role player. Can you show us evidence of his marked improvement? Atleast Marv gave us superficial stats. You gave us superficial and irrelevant conjecture.

eVil - There have been many comments that have mentioned, or questioned, the Knicks team identity.

I initiated a thread with that theme in mind, searching for recent clues to that end. I used the Denver scuffle as a starting point because after the Nuggets game last season. Most thought the team was ready to implode. What happened?

The Knicks went on a a defiant run of better basketball and started to win.

The Boston 40 point loss was another opportunity for gnashing of teeth. The Knicks respond by playing more like the 1994 Knicks. I never said they WERE the 1994 Knicks.

Can you tell me where the problem in comprehension lies?

"Wahhh, I'm in such a rush to identify this collection of stiffs with anything successful, that I had the audacity to mention former Knick warriors and imply that this bunch could be like them. And then Isles had to call me out and make me look like an idiot...again."

Sheesh

Whatever

Earl asked:

Only time will tell.

Exactly,

There is no reason to assume that they will play like that on a consistant basis. They just have to do it.

Going back to Denver they hit rock bottom, but they did bounce back for a good 3 months of decent play.

I also don't agree that we have enough of those type of players. But the ones we do have would have to play so hard that they would have to make up for it and inspire the rest of the team to play that way. They have to avoid getting sucked into uninspired play and impose there will to the rest of the team.

Earl, you know I love you like the cross-eyed, bow-legged, midget third cousin on my aunt marjorie's side of the family but don't think I'm going to let you get away with garbage posts, esppecially when you're calling someone else out on their "superficial stats."

Of course you never said they were the '94 Knicks because as a Knicks fan you know that the '94 Knicks did not have to get kicked in the teeth before they started to care. In fact, they were the dudes doing the teeth kicking most of the season.

I'm glad our boys fought hard last night. I appreciate the effort. But really, I want to see the effort come from within. I want to see these guys play their asses off because they feel in their hearts that as professional athletes they should always give their all. If this team always needs to get kicked around before they wake up, we're going to have the same inconsistent team we had last year.

WHY CAN'T THEY PLAY HARD WHETHER OR NOT THEY HAVE THEIR BACKS UP AGAINST THE WALL?

So you see, I'm not eager to congratulate them because first -- I think playing hard is what they are supposed to do, second -- I'm not convinced that they will always play hard. If you knew me, you'd know that there's no one who would be happier to be wrong about this. So please, New York Knickerbockers -- PROVE ME WRONG. Play hard all year long no matter what the circumstances.

Im looking for the Knicks to play consistent all year! I mean look at all the consistencies. Isiah's coaching! Always knows what to do with his players, and the proper rotations to put them in. Hence his playoff success in Indiana.

Eddy Curry has always been consistent. Turnover prone, no defense, and no rebounds.
Zach Randolph. 20 and 10 in ever loss.
Stephon. Jamal Crawford. All proven to be winners in the past right? oh wait a minute. Whatever team they get traded from starts to become winners.

No. THIS IS the year it all turns around right. A merry band of bad news bears. After one pre-season victory they show signs of an identity. By playing hard against a team that blew them out by 40 on their home turf, in the pre-season. Yeah.
I don't care what people think. People are stupid. - Charles Barkley
