It works both ways. When our guards decide to penetrate no one can stop them either. If our guards slash in and draw KG, they only have to make that short feed to his man and we'll be in good shape. For us its about continuing to attack the basket the way we usually do and even more so now.

That's the part I am worried about. Marbury has been missing a lot at the rim and he is not the drive and dish kind of guy, just the drive part. And if Crawford settles for the J too much....

You're kidding right? Steph isn't the drive and dish type of PG? That's actually something he can do very well. He get's more of his assists that way than in any other way. He's not like Kidd, who will just stand there at the top and pick a team apart with precision passes. He drive's draws people and dishes. He hasn't always done it as much as he should but when he's on his game he's as good as anyone in doing that.

When Stephon drives its with intent to go to the hoop and draw the harm. He does not lay the ball off to a teammate very much in that scenario.

According to one of the bloggers (Alan Hahn) watching training camp, Stephons forays hoopward only manage to result in a bucket or foul half the time,
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Are we only talking about recent history here. Cuz I can clearly remember him getting a lot of assists with guys like Nazr and KT off his penetration. KVH and Doleac got looks that way too and he was doing that with Lee. Remember when Steph encouraged Lee to take the shot when he dumped it off to him and was wide open. Those plays were by design. Steph avg'd 8 asts over his career and had seasons up around 9. When he 1st came here he was at about 9-10 asts on the regular, before Isiah made the TT trade. We haven't really had a lot of high % jumpshooting from the floor, so a lot of his asts come off of some kind of motion he either drives and kicks or pick and roll. He's better when he's moving. He's not the "greatest" at it but he's good.

Don't confuse the fact that he doesn't do it enough with him not doing it at all. People have only asked for him to do it MORE not that he wasn't good at it or rarely did it.

Steph's assists in the early days with the knicks were primarily on pick and pops with KT and Doleac. Yes he might pick up a couple down low in the post but that's not his strong suit. He can't throw an entry pass to save his life either.

Not to be a stickler, but the reason Steph averaged 20+ PPG is cause he finished at the rim more than he dished out assists. And last year he had Curry, Lee, Balk and a ton of guys that finish well around the rim so his assists should have been UP not down. Steph is a pick-and-roll guy.

Very true. With his ability to penitrate, if he would have focused on using that ability to create for others rather than himself though he was a very good finisher in the past. As well as his best ability which is the pick and roll he could have averaged 10assist a game easy in the past and would be viewed as less selfish. There are highlights on Youtube of some great passes he created off his penitration, but he just wasn't consistant enough.

Last season though we lived and died by Curry and took the ball out of Marbury's hands. Which is probably why his assist #s were down.
