Definitely don't agree with the Spree comparisons. Spree was an eratic jump shooter too, but he had the aggresion of a neglected Pit Bull, in terms of his scoring. Balkman is very hesitant to try and score and even said himself that he could care less about himself scoring and that his role is to D up and rebound and he's seemingly perfectly content about that. Two completely different players, 2 completely different personalities.

Spre was a better offensive player - he had a better shot and was a better finisher. Balk is a better rebounder and gives us some shot blocking. Spre was the better all around player, but Balk was a good pick-up where we got him.

We must compare all players to past knicks.

Balkman, with his quirky looks and jumping ability is a modern day "Nathanal Hawthorn Wingo" or Beaver Smith (St Johns).

THat may be harsh but Balky might not see the light of day given the contract status of those before him and his lack of skill set.

We all love Balky, and he did great at times, especially during garbage time when his athletic nature really was able to shine.

We have to consider that Dlee is not a starter and will get those minutes and with Q, JJ2 and Wilson might just get the time at the 3.

Im not hating on Balky, but lets be real, where does the minutes come from?

Other than the ability to bring the ball up I don't see a lot of Mason in Balk's game. I see more Anthony Bonner than I do Mason(and I don't mean that as an insult). To me Balkman's game is unique and nobody really comes to mind when I see him play. And I don't really do that anyway because it doesn't mean anything. I don't think he is ever going to be a star. But he is one of those guys where as his career progresses everyone will want him on their team. He is going to be a pain in the rear for anybody. One of those guys that you would never build a game plan to stop but he seems to make the big play to beat your team. Similar to guys like John Salley and Robert Horry.

No Mr. Earl came up with the Mayor. I developed the Congressman and the Tax Assessor. Judging by BasketballJones immediate acceptance of this nickname I am confident that they will both catch on like wildfire.
