TMS,
keep in mind, if you get the League Pass it also comes with the option to watch the games online as well (live). Also keep in mind that most of the games you will get MSG's broadcast, but some away games they give you the opposing teams announcers. Then some games are on NBA TV.

I thought about purchasing a slingbox when I moved into PA, but the reason I chose not go that route was because of the issues with the sling box.
You already know the Pros, so I will list the Cons. My co-worker had one for a few months and ended up selling it on ebay.

1. Mobility, to watch anything you always have to be at or in front of your computer. (not bad if you have a big HDTV and hook it up to your laptop)
2. Latency, it all depends on your internet connection at both locations. Also, if someone is surfing the net at either location it will definitely affect the performance (unless you have some crazy bandwidth)
3. You need to have an extra tv/cable box that no one will be using. this way you can watch without anyone changing the channel at the end of a game winning shot.

Good luck with the move, you will actually be able to watch those late night west coast games now. On the flip side, your going to have to wake up pretty early to watch the Sunday/Saturday matinee's

Just picked up 1 of these online:

can't wait to hook it up.

Michael, thanks for the info bro... i'd love to get the league pass, but the slingbox also lets me watch all my other shows & yankees/giants as well as my NY sports talk shows too... that should help w/some of the homesickness when i move away i think... i'm gonna set up an extra HD-DVR box at my parent's house & Sling off that.

Now to another question:

Next on my shopping list is the new Macbook Pro

Anybody know when this bad-mutha-shut-yo-mouth is coming out? I don't see the new look version w/the black accents on the Apple website.

^ Now that I've given my obligatory shot at Macs, let me just say that I think Windows Vista is the most bass ackwards retarded operating system ever. That being said, Macs aren't bad as long as you install Linux on them.

awesome - welcome to the family - slinbox = the greatest invention ever.

btw, until you get the laptop, you can still view it from any pc. after you hook up your slingbox at home, you can download the slingplayer software to any PC. each slingbox comes with a unique identifier that you must enter in the slingplayer software - followed by your username and password (which you set-up with the slingbox) and you're hooked up.

what does this mean? that means if you go on vacation to a family members house in texas - and they have a desktop pc, you can just download the software to their pc, set it up with your slingbox ID, log in and you can watch it there. so a laptop is not 100% essential if there's a PC at the location you want to watch it.

i've hooked up my laptop's S-video out to a tv and it looks pretty good for non sports, and good for fast motion sports.

man, i can't wait to start Slinging off dj's cable *cough* err, i mean my parent's cable.

yo deej, the website says the Solo is 1080i HD compatible... does the picture come out that quality or is it pixelated & choppy? the clips shown on the website of the Slingbox in action seem pretty decent, but you have to figure that CEO dude has some sick internet connection hooked up to it.

i don't have my HD hooked up to it. but on your home network, meaning using your slingbox in the same house the box is installed (like taking your laptop to your kitchen or garage to watch your tv), you will get it on HD. but watching it from a remote location (slingbox in nyc, watching in calif.), it's not a fast enough upload rate to see HD unless you have a souped up broadband service with a huge upload bitrate.

tms, i'm telling you, the quality is very good. on my phone, it's amazing. on a 21" monitor it's very very very good and plugging my laptop to a 32inch tv, the quality is very good. and that's fast sports motion.

if it's just a movie or tv show, or even baseball, you can't really notice any difference.

yo deej, u think i can get away with getting the Road Runner extreme package (20 mbps download/1 mbps upload) or would you suggest i upgrade to Verizon Fios instead (20 mbps download/5 mbps upload) for my homebox ISP in order to get good quality Sling streamage?

Fios is actually less per month on its own, but if i get the road runner package as part of my internet/cable/phone, the total cost comes out to be a little cheaper than getting cable separate from my Verizon phone/internet.

the fios packages for my area goes like this:

https://www22.verizon.com/FiOSForHome/channels/OrderFiOS/olo_landing_east.aspx

Two Year Agreement:

Up to 10 Mbps/2 Mbps Only Online: Save $99
1st month FREE. Then just $29.99/mo. for months 2-7. $39.99/mo after

Up to 20 Mbps/5 Mbps Only Online: Save $109
1st month FREE. Then just $39.99/mo. for months 2-7. $49.99/mo after

One Year Agreement:

Up to 10 Mbps/2 Mbps Only Online: Save $99
1st month FREE. Then just $29.99/mo. for months 2-7. $39.99/mo after

Compare those rates to Road runner... for the top speed "Extreme" broadband, they charge something like $69.99/month for service, & you only get max 20 Mbps/1 Mbps speeds.

My brother-in-law has Dish Network in Rochester and he doesn't get MSG. I believe he can get it through Direct TV or cable. You might have to pay extra for it. Maybe someone will post the games on YouTube if you can't find another way to get them.

I can attest to the greatness of the Slingbox. I used it to watch the Maccabi Tel-Aviv game last week.
