Nalod - the line about calling someone "well-spoken" cuts deep.

An insult, even when it is veiled, is still an insult.

You know Mister, we all got culture issues. Even Nalod.

All I know is we come her to talk. Black, Asian, white, Euro and Indian all getting along. Most of the time.

Nit picking until you want a confession is insulting itself.

Maybe we have really evolved that this dumb ass contributer had no idea that "well spoken" was a racial insult. The work "well" and "Spoken" by themselves really does not give me any hint.

even after my explaination you insist such a term "cuts deep".

Does intent matter? I understand there are phrases that are taught that one might confuse with a cultural norm and thru nativity use them? But could "well spoken", while I can see being a softer version of saying "house", could it also be applied to "jocks"? And you not being so anal about disecting every single phrase? Could giving a guy who comes to this forum on a friendly basis to talk hoops and other social issues be given the benefit of the doubt once in a while?

To me cutting remarks (when I am faced with them) are those that are done with intent.

We need to get a real personnell/management guy. I'm not a big fan of former players who haven't yet come through the ranks...

VDesai - are you a fan of Chris Mullin and the job he's done?

McHale, Bird, Thomas, Baylor, and Jordan all have questionable records.

Mullin and Grunfeld so far are pretty good. Mully was a big name player to have only done well, but he is the only one. Gruenfeld was no star.

Maybe Vdesai is thinking to stay away from the "Starphuch" name thinking the players glory translates to a successful personel guy.

Nalod - the original question was not regarding "big name" stars but former players with no experience.

What job did Danny Ainge have before head coach?

McHale?

Bill Sharman with the Lakers?

Kiki Vandeweghe?

Heck, Billy Beane with the Oakland A's?

Kiki was well spoken?

Just kidding,

Your reference to Mully was I assumed that you were finding an instance that has worked while most have not.

Billy Beane played proball? If he did, was he an allstar?

My point is really that former stars make bad coaches, GMs and presidents. Kiki did have some potent years, and Sharman was a hell of a player.

how long has mullin been on the job in GS? my impression is they were horribly managed for years before the awesome finish to last year. mullin was responsible for the big contracts for dunleavy and murphy, although he pawned them off and got baron too. anyway, i'd want to see if the team has any staying power before saying mullin's done a good job.
