Miami doesn't have anyone that anyone is scared of. Shaq is old now and hurt. Wade is all alone. Who's on their roster besides that? Kinda sad.

I have no idea why people are trying to sleep on Miami they made the playoffs last yr as a 4-5th seed with Wade and Shaq missing a ton of games and I don't think either of them will miss that many games this yr. Cto reports on Wade, reports on injuries are made to be worst case scenario to build stars up when they return. Wade will be playing games in November count on it.
I don't know how I forgot about Miami. I don't feel that strongly about their chances, but i give them a better shot than Wash. I want to make a change to my list and kick Wash out and put Miami at 8. I think Shaq's age will be a factor. I know it sounds low, but things have changed in the East. There's a lot of competitive teams now and I don't think Wade and an aging Shaq are enough.

IMO it's really quite simple as has been alluded to in some of the preliminary discussion

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/standings

These are the 8 teams who made it last yr

Detroit
Cleveland
Toronto
Miami
Chicago
New Jersey
Washington
Orlando

These are the teams that didn't make it

Indiana
Philadelphia
Charlotte
New York
Atlanta
Boston
Milwaukee

Boston will replace 1 of the aforementioned teams, the rest more than likely will stay put because each of those playoff teams have a few things in common.

For starters each of those teams have a Top 20 player on their team, a couple teams have 2.

They were the best teams at Points Allowed or the better defensive teams.

Most of those teams have elite coaches and winners/leaders on their teams.

Those teams have all around better systems being implemented.

Now when you look at Washington, really the only reason they made the playoffs was because they were far and away the best Offensive team in the East and in the Top 5 overall in the NBA. Since the East improved overall it's going to take at a minimum 42wins to make the playoffs. Sorry the Knicks will not win that many games this yr plus they just don't meet any of the necessary criteria to be a playoff team.

They were that way last yr and injured yet they still made it as a 4-5th seed. I mean Damn Alonzo Mourning was a Top 3 center during certain stretches of the season last yr in the East. People were saying the same thing about Kidd being old, microfractured knee, Kristic and Jefferson out for plenty of games, yet he willed New Jersey to the playoffs. Great players overcome the doubters and why would anyone doubt a proven champion? Sorry Miami is a sure lock playoff team.

Riley signed a contract to coach through the 2010 season when Wade's contract has a PO. I'd say he's motivated enough to coach. They signed Penny Hardaway and Shaq had a lot to do with it. Shaq is also going through a divorce, a wife who was stashing his millions into investing in real estate property. I'd say Shaq is real pissed right about now and has tons of motivation to play this season to win. Riley also threatened Shaq at the end of the season and so much as said Shaq needs to give back his $20mil for his performance and effort from last yr. Money says Shaq doesn't duplicate that again, he takes stuff real personal. Now his laid back attitude turn it on when it matters won't work and I'm sure he found that out last yr. Expect to see a beast this yr.

You might be right, but things do change. I think the rest of the Conf. has caught up to them and they lean heavily on Shaq who may not be up to going strong for 82.

How did they make the playoffs last yr then while Shaq proceeded to miss 42gms? Are you saying Shaq will miss 42gms or more this season? They added Parker, Penny, Deaquan Cook(one of those sleeper type picks), will insert Dorrell Wright into the rotation and appear to be looking to add another FA to the roster.

A Top team that will struggle/slide some will be Cleveland because they've made practically no additions this off-season. The two teams that stand a chance to be a bubble team not to make the playoffs are Washington and New Jersey.

just read the article. Riley acknowledges Shaq trade made them old. Wade is the unquestionable future of the franchise. Wade kept out till he is fully healthy buys Riley time to get a high pick and retool for another title run in 2009.
Dwyane said he is on track. Will he be ready for training camp?

PR: “That's a hypothetical. When you have the kind of surgery he had, he had a double-surgery, and the knee was taken care of also. The shoulder itself is a cookie-cutter type of prognosis, six months. I saw him not too long ago, putting his arm up above his head, he said he felt well and he will feel better everyday that he keeps rehabbing and working and his shoulder will get stronger and stronger. By the time training camp comes around, I think he will feel pretty good. We are not going to put him into battle, but he will be working to get himself into condition.”

Miami got one mention so far. Thats a little bit strange. They at least deserve a mention along with teams like Charlotte and Atlanta. But only one person has them in the playoffs?

I find it comical fans have them falling off as much as they do. If they are factoring in possible injuries to that team, then why aren't we factoring in possible injuries to our team? With that being said who made the playoffs last yr as a solid seed even with the injuries and who didn't? Miami got younger and more athletic with draft picks, giving younger players opportunity to get clock and with off-season acquisitions. Here's another thing they are amongst the top defensive teams in the league.
You're right; I actually forget about them. I was basing my rankings by re-ordering the teams other people mentioned. Including Miami slides us down to competing for the tenth spot Shaq at 50 will still be a better player than Eddy. His scoring is down because he's chosen to hand the scoring over to Wade.

Which means he more than likely won't do any contact practicing/drills with the team during camp, won't play probably at all during pre-season and probably will get a couple practices in before the season tips off. Wade already gave indication where his progress is at. Like I said injury reports often times are designed to build a player up so in the end when such player returns they come off as larger than life and ultimate warriors.

Sure lock? Everyone that made it last year is a sure lock also then.

That's why we play out the season. Someone is gonna get bumped. If Orlando is a lock cuz they have a "go to" guy in rashard, then the knicks are just as much of a lock cuz they have a go to guy in zach.

I'm a glutton for punishment, so I'm banking on the knicks to show and prove. They would have made the playoffs if half of the important players didn't get hurt. That's a fact in my eyes.

The season has to play out so hopefully the knicks can control their own destiny and knock one of those locks out the box.

Philly is another team that will be tough. Nobody mentioned them.

Its gonna be a much improved season in the NBA. There are teams that are good, so wins and losses will be earned big time.

Its better for us as fans.

Just like there is some silly dude saying Philly is gonna make the playoffs I'm sticking with the knicks regardless. The knicks have their best chance to make it happen this year. They have actually improved every year. The league has also.

The season will tell the tale. I don't care what's the top 8. The knicks will get in somewhere.

Zach's a good scorer and rebounder but Rashard is an all-star and known for being a good person in the locker room. I'd rank him slightly ahead of Zach. (He's one of Orlando's two all-stars BTW.)
