ehh, one start by pelfrey guys, if he can be consistent for the rest of the year...it would give us a huge boost

Sweep

Wagner still looks shaky but that was one heckuva job by the mets to sweep @atlanta philly also down by 2 going into the 9th.

The Mets will bounce back. They needed this more than anyone thinks. If this doesn't wake them up and light a fire under their butts -- nothing will. It all starts with a bounce back sweep of Atlanta. Far fetched? Sure. Just you wait.

I love it when you can make silly boasts and your team actually backs you up. Great sweep. Very timely. Hopefully no let downs and hopefully we storm into the playoffs on all cylinders.

I'm glad the Mets are playing better. I'm a Yankee fan but I don't root against the Mets. Actually I think a subway world series would be awesome!

The METS are kick ass. The fact that they bounced back in Atlanta and SWEPT the Bravos in their stadium says a lot. Maine and Pelfrey were dynamite. So was Glavine. I though John Maine defined his young career under all that pressure on Friday night.

Pelfrey's sinker was unhittable. And Glavine got the better of Smoltzy. I could NOT believe that

Chipper was held from several potential hits of destruction. Texeira too.

Pedro's return was the cherry on top.

We have not won more than 4 games in a row this year...maybe that will be the next obstacle to overcome.

SWEEP ATLANTA - check
THE RETURN OF MAINE'S MOJO - check (in ATLANTA which is even more amazing)
PELFREY WINS A GAME - check (see above and on national TV)
DELGADO'S RENAISSANCE OF THE SEASON WHEN WE NEED IT MOST - check
PEDRO RETURNS- check
PHILLY'S DOWNWARD SPIRAL - check
BRAVOS TAKE THEIR FRUSTRATION OUT ON PHILLY- check
WRIGHT KICKS ASS- check
REYES HAS MORE SB'S THAN 14 TEAMS IN MLB - check
MARLON ANDERSON IS CLUTCH - check

Everything is going as planned...now for the other team in ornage and blue...

Fuck the mets.

Edit: just kidding.

Bring the dodgers back to Brooklyn and ship the giants to staten island or something.

Go ny!

Queenie - the best part is watching the Braves and Phillies duke it out while the Mets make some subtle September adjustments to the starting rotation. It may not be pretty, but Rick Peterson will squeeze whatever quaility juice is in this bunch.

I'd throw Sosa in a closing cameo situation and see how he responds.

Challenge Pedro Feliciano with some critical innings as a backup lefthanded closer in the event number 13 gets shaky.

meanwhile

Alou is rested and Delgato is steadily hitting the ball hard.

.... hold up, is Ruben Gotay a hitter or what?

Ok- So should we have a UK Mets gathering at Shea?

If you are still following the team and reading sites like this, there is nothing, short of your own demise, that is going to throw you off this train.

I love the Mets. I haven't been to a game all year, but I think I might go watch 'em next weekend.

From a Braves blog on Atlanta journal-constitution

By Anders

"While the Braves spent most of their prospcts on Tex and Dotel the Mets sat tight. Next year they can take their prospects and the $21 mil we save on Glavine and Shaun Green and make a deal with the Twins and sign Santana long term. Doesn’t seem that long ago that folks on this blog were lauding JS for one upping Minaya at the trade deadline. Turns out all we needed was Castillo and Minaya got him for a song. All the other pieces were on the DL waiting to come back - Chavez, Martinez, Alou, Loduca and we still have Duaner Sanchez due back for next season. The Mets used 3 different right fielders alone against the Braves over the weekend. Now that everyone’s back from the DL they have the deepest bench in baseball again."

All posters here realize my opinion of the Mets. I haven’t changed my mind one bit, believe me. However, that being said-Maine is not Roy Oswalt-YET. I don’t think much of the Mets, but I’d take that kid for the Braves in a heartbeat. He’s good now and will only get better. I think you’ll find he’s the real deal if he can remain healthy.

Paladin: Either you are new or stupid. If you have blogged here long enough you know that my teeth have been cut and I’m a mainstay unless I decide to stop gracing this blog. So give up the “please go away”, METS fans and non METS fans have heard this over and over and it actually makes no difference. Use you energy to support your squad and not tear somebody else down. But either way, I’m game for your weakness!!!!

Anybody out there who bets baseball may want to play the Reds tomorrow. After tonights win it’s expected Randolph will sit Loduca, Reyes, Alou, Delgado and possibly Wright to take advantage of the Thursday day off. Gonna look like a spring training game. I’m sure John Maine is thrilled.

mets are surging and getting healthy at the same time.

here's a question tho - looks like arod is the lock to be the AL mvp.

it's quite possible nyc corners the market with another 3B in wright to win NL mvp. but i ask mets fans, who's the mvp of your team? is it reyes or wright? and will each one hurt the other's chances for winning it? and who else really is in the running in the NL?

That's a tough question. Wright has been unbelievable since coming out of his slump. His numbers are excellent -- better than Reyes. However, Reyes is the guy that makes the team tick. When Reyes has a good game the team usually wins. I don't know whose more valuable, but for whatever reason -- I feel that Reyes has the bigger impact on overall team performance. It's a tough call and it's a debate that I'm happy Mets fans can have.

Forget the MVP. Reyes and Wright have the best choreographed in-dugout celebration/handshake for home runs.

Milledge and Pedro shaking it down is a close second.

The Mets play a more exciting brand of running and gunning baseball and are simply more fun to watch.

MVP? We don't need no steenkin' MVP?

everybody plays!
