Hold up, since when did having outside interests become an automatic deduction? I'm just thankful that Steph has seen the light and dedicated some energy to what he considers noble causes.

He showed up heavier than normal? Big deal. Shedding weight, for most ballers, is not an issue - given the nature of the game. I really don't think Stephon Marbury and Hot Plate Williams belong in the same sentence.

Speculation, schmecualtion... he was seen in the gym with Wilson Chandler.

That's good enough for me.

Wilson Chandler for Mayor!

Is Eddy or Randolph going to start to attend some of these workouts or what. Nice to hear the veterans are out there trying to stay in shape and build chemistry. Wonderful piece on Chandler. I like this kid a lot.

Zach already worked out with many of the players after he first got traded to the Knicks. Zach is a low key guy. He is not really going to talk to the media that much. As far as Curry, he is working out with other Knick players in Chitown. And this is all after his family is dealing with outside problems.

I didn't realize that Randolph has already worked out with other players but the only reports of Eddy were his workouts with Q, his personal trainer and visits by the Knicks trainers. I think it is vital that he spends time with more players than Q as part of his workout schedule. Maybe this workout was for point guards and small forwards or something. Like I said it seems to be informal thing that the players did themselves. Good news there.

Knicks won 33 games and did not make playoffs.

Knicks also did some summer get together last year.

The chemistry thing is great, and the words used are great.

I think we are all exicited about the up coming season and see if all this wonderful words and actions translate to more wins.

Until then its valid to b!tch about last season and its valid (IMHO) to go off on marbury who has really let down fans regarding his leadership and play level that was hyped to fans, and hyped by him.

We all hope:

Balky is the next Rodman off the bench.
Lee is solid 10-10 monster off the bench.
Chandler is the next Grant Hill.
Nichols is the next Glen Rice.
the formation of "Zeddy" is a stroke of genious and most dominent inside presence in the League!
Marbury finds the fountain of youthier and uses his new found love for things Italian and becomes "Diablo" on the court!

thats just a short list of hopes, and if true we will win more!

If not then THE PRESENT LEVEL OF PLAY WILL RESULT!

I think that is an important statement. Some think that the team has moved on, Some just hope, and others baseline the team based on facts. The fact remains a 33 win season. Its the intangables that are hopeful.

Is it so far off to speculate that similar results could happen?

No, only its worth noting that Isiah had Marbury push the sneaker promotion gigs to earlier in the off-season to give him time to get into shape.

If this scrimmage is the signal that the promotion is done, and the basketball is starting, this fan will take that as a big positive.

If i'm not mistaken is Eddy working with Q and other guys in Chicago? I seem to remember that they get together there in the offseason.

Q was apparently at this workout

Funny you should mention that, given the problems that plague the centers on our roster...

And if he started slowly last season (honestly at this point I don't remember) then Marbury's excess weight WAS a big deal. You should be ready to go by day 1. You start taking games and parts of the season off and you end up like last years Miami heat.

All that being said, there is still a long time before the season starts. Hopefully Marbury (and all the Knicks) will be in top shape and hungry by training camp.

In my opinion, voluntary workouts like this say only good things about those who attended and nothing bad about the rest.

To those who went, it shows dedication and a willingness to work hard to improve during the offseason.

To those who did not show, there could be 100 good reasons why they didn't.

On that note. Is Big Game exempt from working out during the summer?

Andrew - was Marbury out of shape last training camp, or was his slow start more about him struggling with the point guard transition from Larry Brown to Isiah Thomas?

Either way, how does that relate to a random speculation about how he is spending this Summer?

He was out of shape even the commentators were speaking at different times last season saying Marbury appears to have found his groove shedding some weight and getting into game shape.

Do watch the games or not?

Not just the summer, he's exempt from working out. Period. He managed to somehow negotiate that clause into his $30 million contract. Understandable, of course, based on how tired he was after his playoff performance with the Sonics... who wouldn't expect to be rewarded with $30 million and 5 years rest?

every knick was out of shape last year.

Who really cares if Jerome James is exempt from anything?

Good knowledge, this is going to be quite the season...as a fan, you stick by your team through thick (yankees in the 90's) and thin (yankees in the 80's).

However the pen is mightier than the sword, and some posters just have a way with words that is biting and rude.

Unfortunately, these are the "realists".

But in the end, I'm pretty sure everyone (with the exception of trueblue and islesfan) will be posting positive.

I'm not one of those championship or bust fans because i realize there is a ton of luck involved with winning a title, after that, it's like a freight train of multiples.

The key is to find the luck to win just that one.

So, we root and root and root.

Didn't anybody see major league?

I don't know that Steph was "out of shape". He may not have been in the best shape of his life, but there's a big difference between out of shape, fair shape and great shape. He logged some heavy minutes in Preseason, which could've been an attempt to improve his fitness. I looked at his game logs and he was inconsistent in Nov., however, after that his performance was better. Who can say if that was struggles due to lack of fitness or adjusting to a new role or both?

Nov. 10.1/4.5 asts
Dec. 16.2/6.1
Jan. 18.0/6.1
Feb. 15.4/5.3
Mar. 23.1/5.7

As long as everyone comes into camp in the best shape, this year, that's all that matters. I like that overall there's a been a good amount of attempts to build chemistry. Hopefully we'll see Curry and Zach get together as well.

What's your criteria for saying that? How do you know this for sure? How did you determine his actual fitness level? You could be right, but I don't know how we can be sure this was the case.

nix, this is a fan message board where people are in large part expressing their opinions. If everything stated had to be backed up by what you are asking for, nothing would ever be posted.

He was out of shape period. Even homeristic Gus Johnson commented on his poor conditioning and lack of being in shape to start the season. This is a perfect example of what I'm talking about how you are.
