Why would a career ban be warranted?
Simply because so far, Crawford still believes he did nothing wrong and would have handled the situation exactly the same (he stated this). How can you put someone like that back in place? What if he knows a few things? Can NBA allow to get it out in the light of last events? He will be back and will do what he always did...
Not really. Stern has gotten rid of officials who had personal problems in the past. These guys do not have multi-year contracts. One year and you are evaluated after the season. I think that is the case in most major sports. If you don't believe me just ask Jake O'Donnell. I think he is still waiting by the phone after 13 years.
He pretty much ruined any chance he'd ever officiate again after this:
However a year later in an interview with ESPN, O'Donnell admitted to having a long-standing grudge against Drexler that began while "Clyde the Glide" was playing for the Portland Trail Blazers. O'Donnell commented, "I wouldn't give Clyde Drexler much leeway because of the way he reacted with me all the time. I thought at times he would give cheap shots to people, and I just would not allow it." Yeah, I remember that interview. He also gave one to Costas on NBC during a playoff game and Clyde a cry baby, phony and cheater. He was a highly respected ref before all that went down but sounded like he just snap with Drexler. Crawford has that same relationship with Duncan. It is funny how it is the quiet or "nice guy" players who strike a real nerve with these guys. I think they have more problem with the phony image thing.
