You guys say Marbury is our best and most reliable player now, but do you REALLY think he'd be that reliable after touring so much this Summer? He is going to be exhausted when training camp comes and probably out of shape. This has been my problem and my only problem with him since the end of the Larry Brown season. He just doesn't seem as commited as one would think, and the way he talks, it's backing it up!

I really see quite a dropoff in his production this season. And I'm not hating. I've supported the guy and defended him plenty of times, but I've been losing a lot of respect for him this Summer.

Great Guards always have the advantage of being able to get their offense, since they handle the ball so well and so often. However, Steph isn't going to be in the attack mode like he's been in the past. So with Zach and Curry now the primary scoring options, you look at that and then compare the rest of their games. Zach is the more accomplished all around player, but Curry is even more dominant and efficient. The guy get's it done with fewer tools and fewer shots. They're so close that it's a 1 and 1A situation. Take your pick in any particular game.

I'd say Marbury. If Zach adds passing to his game then it could be him.
Marbury only got 3 more assists than Zach last year. If you are going to tell Zach to step up his passing then tell Marbury to step up his rebounding because Marbury only gets like 2.9 rebounds a game.

Allanfan20 - I lost a lot of respect for Marbury the Summer he decided to play on the Olympic team

I understand he has gained 20 pounds while touring the country pushing his shoes, he has lost focus on basketball and his agent is actively seeking an extension

Marbury must go
once a knick always a knick

People are making statements about the greatness of DNIch and Chandler and the instant meshing of Zach and Curry into a dominant duo. I tell them I will wait and see before I pass judgement. People say Marbs isn't focused on bball and is fat and out of shape. I will wait and see before I pass judgement. I think that's the only fair way. Get it done on the court and all the offseason stuff is meaningless
I just hope that people will like me

The funny thing about Marbury as our PG is he only had 1 single 10 assist game last year. Thats pretty amazing for a PG.
Can you imagine how bad people would cream Curry if he only had 1 single 10 rebound game for a season?

Isiah's system wasn't designed for Steph to have as many "direct pass that leads to a score" opportunities. I'm not really that concerned with Steph's assists. I'm more concerned with TEAM assists going up. If Isiah makes an adjustment to let Steph play a bit more with the ball in his hands then I could see the assists going up. More pick and roll/pop plays would do that. We'll have to see what he decides to do now that Zach is here.

It's clear to me that there will need to be some development of chemistry with Zach and Curry on the floor. Both will have to know how to react when the other has the ball and so forth. Obviously passing is gonna be huge. I'm assuming that Isiah will have our guards setting up on the perimeter more to try and really sretch defenses. If he does this, Zach and Curry MUST pass well for this to work, so we'll have to see how this all works out.

That may be so but our SG had 3 times as many double digit assists games as our PG despite playing fewer games so it cant be all about a system.Even Mardy had a double digit assist game and Malik Rose had a 9 assist game.

With Steph feeding Curry many of his possessions led to FT's or no scoring opportunity at all, with all the doubles. He got very little out of Frye as we know. The only real shooter was Q and he went down. Jamal isn't high % enough nor much of a catch and shoot guy to really help with the Assists. Still there were a lot of 8 & 9 assist games in there for Steph too tho. He had about 21 games with 8 or more assists. It's possible that he'll do better than that this year without the poor start. It's not like Steph hasn't shown that he's been the more consistent PG for this team over the years. I'm not gonna say that just because a couple of players had some high assist games, that this somehow is a bad mark against Steph. I'm hopeful that Mardy, Jamal and Nate can step up, but Steph has been the guy.

Nix I understand your point but that doesnt really explain why Jamal our SG had 3 games of 10 plus assists in 59 games but Marbury our PG had only had 1 game of 10 plus assist game in 73 games.

Because marbury doesn't know how to get his team mates good shots. Nixluva is right for all the wrong reasons. Assists from marbury is somebody standing open 18 feet away from the basket and him finding that player after pounding the ball or him giving up the ball then disappearing some whereon the floor. He can't get Lee and Curry the ball in a position to score in the paint, he can't hit Balk, Q, JC on a cut or a couple of feet away from the basket for a easy mid range shot......... it's toooo hard and he never played that until year 10 of his career. It's not in his makeup.

He's a dud at the point, because only a dud of a point guard could have two Front court players in the top 5 of shootin % and average 5 assists per game. He should have averaged 5 assist a game just from getting them layups.

Marbury and Curry scored 20 in the same game once after the injuries...... either he scores or the team scores, there is no in between.

if Marbury is allowed to shoot like in the past he is a more efficient point creator than anyone on this team. Problem with Steph is he has no ice in his veins. qtrs 1-3 thru-out his career offensively not many have been better at the 1. come the 4th he flakes more times than he shows a steel will.

As for him being able to still score, didn't late last season he go on a tear (with one less ball hog out injured).

And Jamal's passing ability is highlight reel worthy, so is Antoine Walker's...would still want neither running my offense.

an assist from Marbury usually means standing around waiting at the elbows for a kick-out from his dribble penetration but he does penetrate. Crawford doesn't brave the bumps and elbows nearly as much.

You said in your original post that no one on this team can dominate like Marbury which is not true. Do you really believe Marbury can dominate every night in a 82 games season? Marbury had difficulty doing that in a 20 game strench last year. Zach did not. Curry can do that every night. Marbury can not. Unless he can drop 20 and 8 from a hospital bed. He'll go 22 games then he will be injuried. YOu can not say that about Zach.

As far as passing, he is one of the few point guards that players still have to create their own shot after he gives them a pass. Yet you think his passing is better than Jamal. YOu really think Isiah is the one that stopped Marbury from feeding the post? What's the point of having a pg if he can't setup the players on his own team the ball where they want it?

And Marbury has been playing organized ball since he was 5. This is the same guy who shy's away from the ball the last minute in games. Zach not only wants the ball in clutch situation but he is also able to hit his regular shots, and foul line shots in the clutch.

If he was that dominate Curry and Zach would not be the number one option. Marbury would.

big c, curry's done it for 1 season and you are ready to put all your eggs in the eddy basket?

and marbury doesn't make the flashy pass but he does settle the team down in the backcourt. and this is coming from one of his biggest critics. i don't think he's a good point guard in terms of making his teammates better, but he's not a turnover machine. we don't have anybody else that can even come close in that department...and for all of crawford's alleyoops to curry, he's nowhere close to being a point guard.

I don't think Marbury is capable of doing that every night without getting injuried. What Marbury did two years ago is different from him accomplishing that every night now. Yes, he can do that a few games straight but not every night. I noticed that you left out that I really compared Zach to Marbury. NO Marbury does not turn the ball over that much because he only passes really to players that are within a 5 feet of his radius. This is why a pg like Kidd and Nash are going to have more turnovers because they run and push the rock and get players involved. Marbury is going to have low turnovers because he does not do those things. He does the obvious pass. If it is a cross court pass he is not going to do it. IF it is a break he most likely will be the one finishing.

As far as Jamal, it is not about oops. Watch how he feeds the cutters. How he pass from above the key. What is Jamal lacking as far as point guard skills for this team?

Who do you think the players on this team think is the best player?

i didn't disagree with your zach assessment, that's why i didn't mention him. but curry? in 12 months, curry won't be a knick but that's just one man's opinion.

this team needs a point guard that can control everything. there's alot more to it than you talked about. look at how deron controls his team, how tj ford does it...even calderon, etc. i don't think jamal has that ability at that level. he can handle the ball and make a pass or two, but since we don't have a franchise player, jamal doesn't cut it there. you're talking about for THIS team...sure you can put jamal at the point - don't expect any big wins or anything tho. i'm talking about long term for this team. and the team is aware of it b/c they are looking for a successor to marbury (even with jamal already on the roster).
Now that Zach is on our team is he the best player?
