Personally I find it easy to ignore the fringes and have some pretty good conversations about Knicks basketball and the teams strengths and weaknesses. I've found that there are people that simply are never going to talk about the strengths. And there are people that are going to flip out anytime a weakness is mentioned. But the majority of the people on this board are fair and will discuss if you just stay on topic. Even the lovers, if you calm them down and get them to stop reacting so knee-jerkedly to any negative comment end up being on the same page with everyone else.

In the end, after watching Nixluva post(the king of the lovers) that past few weeks it's so funny how he seems to echo everything I've said months ago. But for some reason he is labelled a "lover". These labels are so ridiculous and are only used to dismiss someone's opinion that we don't agree with. It's like calling someone a liberal or a conservative. As long as you use it in a condescending way it dismisses their opinion and allows you to tune out to it.

Pfffft. Ridiculous. If people would stop going out of their way on their strange mission to squash all negativity, there would be a lot more getting along. Some of your anti-hater posts have been just silly lately. It seems that some hold the team to average expectations but continue to harp on scenarios that are best-case, even though they aren't likely. The others of us hope for the best, but are focused towards likely scenarios. In other words, we all know that a 15-0 start to the season isn't going to happen, so there's no point in discussing it. You want group buy-in that the team is awesome, then predictions of how many games the team will win have us centered ~.500 by both lovers and haters. Childish enthusiasm is great, but you can't have a realistic discussion with it; the "lovers" who are having issues know it, too, so I don't know why they continue to deny it.

I'm convinced that some of the "lovers" argue just for the sake of arguing and are actually bigger haters than the supposed haters. This shows when you watch how they relentlessly put down ANYTHING good about any team not called the Knicks.

I just have a hard time with the hater/lover thing because there are so many guys on the board that are so called lovers but they predict the same amount or less wins than the haters. IT's the same as last year. Here is the true definition of a hater and a lover:

Hater-predicts 38-43 wins and is not happy with that total. Feels the talent is capable of more
Lover-predicts 38-43 wins and cannot wait for the team to win 38-43 wins so they can run around and say I told you so to all the doubters about how much the team has improved.

It's ridiculous.

Oh and by the way Enyspree I did steal that from you, because I thought it was brilliant. But I plan on using it more often so that people will think it was my idea. That's what many of the lovers are doing with my "trim the fat" blatherings of the past two years

Yep Bip just summarized again what I stated in the initial post. It's COMICAL to the highest degree how the LOVERS predictions are skin on behalf of skin to the HATERS prediction. Most fans here have the team winning less than 45gms. No HATER to my knowledge has the team winning less than 35gms. So with that 6-7gm window it puts the team at .500 which isn't good yet the LOVERS are miffed. None of the LOVERS have the balls to put their predictions where their posts are at.

I think Solace is right - this lover/hater talk has gone on too long and its usually just too dumb to even respond too. In my opinion, however, most of the haters have it right. The lovers don't really even have a position and sort of randomly add new things to their repertoire by mere opposition. But, hey, I could be wrong - so I challenge Nixluva to come up with a lover's manifesto. Maybe Isles and Solace could come up with a hater's manifesto.

I miss the good old days with the self-proclaimed "realists." But now its like they don't even exist anymore - with the exception, of course, of Bip and his stuffed animals.

That's not a prediction. He said talent-wise, we should be able to win that many games. His prediction, on the prediction thread, was around 39 wins, I think, because he, has already accounted for the team underperforming. My prediction was 43 wins, and that was not accounting for the team's usual letdown factor.

Nice theory, but you're wrong.
