So then would you say Ron Artest would have a bigger impact on a team or less of an impact?

If Artest stays out of trouble, it's a good trade. Artest is a star. I don't think Balkman is quite at the same level.

If Artest stays out of trouble its a great trade. Thats a big if though

Absolutely, which is the only reason why the Kings would consider it. Tough to gauge, at this time, whether it's a good move. Time will have to tell on this one, if we do it.

Well the Kings are rebuilding and also know they will lose him next year when he opts out of his 8 mill deal

About the same size if as Q being healthy enough to provide a full year of services.
Let's say we pull the rookies, lee and balkman off the table?
That doesn't give us much to use in a way to get artest.

it's an interesting delima...the celtics went all in. No doubt about it and they look to be contenders along with the bulls, heat and Pistons.

Cleveland and Jermain O'Neal are the odd teams out and we have the ability to join boston by adding just Artest.

If we somehow got kobe, (lee and/or balkman can go for kobe) then the dream team that has the better chance to come out of the east are the knicks along with the celtics (and I guess the bulls with their depth, but they are more like the new pistons, but you can't have both of them)

Marbs, Kobe, Artest, Zach and Curry is a BEAST in the EAST.

But some are saying that to get kobe, we would have to lose curry and/or crawford.

But what if we could keep balk and lee and get artest?

That's a simple trade, expirings, some JJs and a Nate/Malik combo should be enough for Artest.

If we get artest, going all in for Kobe will be much easier and I'd give up just about anybody for kobe.
Let's go Knicks. That's amare

It wouldnt make much sense for us to trade for Artest but keep Jeffries, Balkman, Qrich, Chandler and Nichols. All 6 play the same position.

artest and q make the same salary (I think), so that would be straight up, however, if new york is made up of stars, I could see a jeffries and balkman trade for artest and for some deranged reason would welcome it with open arms.

I've thought and thought about that celtics trade and it's looking like they are pretty dang good.

Zach and Kevin have battled before...while it's not a lock, it's not a runaway in garnett's direction.

Ray Ray can be checked.

That leaves Paul Pierce who we've demonstrated historically we can't stop.

Artest can stop pierce...heck, artest can slow down shaq...but is it worth going all in this season?

...dang...

OK, I have to go back to thread post...I'd like to keep balkman and lee, however, I do want artest.

No chance we trade Lee for Artest. We have a good big 3 at c/pf but little proven depth in case of injury. SF we are loaded at.

The artest deal would address two of our most glaring weaknesses. Our lack of perimeter defense and our outside shooting, with artest you take here of both in a nut shell. Balkman and lee are two future stars who will prbably both develope a relatively decent jump shot at some point, just not this year.

Lee is a horrible perimeter defender, and there will be times he will be needed to play the 3 and thats where the trouble begins. Balkman is a solid all around player that does nothing great, but i can assure you he will always have an impact on the game no matter what his numbers look like.

Whith Rn we have a shot at the ECF this year, with lee and balkman we will just be competing for a playoff spot.
Besides I think Lee and Balk will eventually get traded anyway.

Unless we were getting a Kobe or a Garnett Im not interested in trading very promising young players for a guy who doesnt have it on straight--who demands to much on offense and who could not impact many games at Sacremento. Were not going from the outhouse to the penthouse in one year---be patient. If we really want Ron Artest we can have him next year for NOTHING. Why pay anything for him--its ludicrous.

I don't understand how we can have have him for nothing when we are over the cap.

Its not for nothing. It would be Balkman and salary cap filler like our 2 expiring contracts.

The Kings know Artest is likely to opt out next year since he is making under 8 mill this year

Exactly. I think we all need to take a step back and really examine this. I think we are overating our young players a bit. To say we are only going to trade our young players for Kobe or Garnett is a joke. Why would the Lakers or Minny trade hall-of-fame franchise players for package that has role-players as the most attractive pieces? Our young players are role players. Yes, they hustle, and play that blue-collar brand of ball that we all seem to love, but Lee and Balk aint winning no rings as the main focus of any team. They are complimentary players.

I know everyone wants to fleece the other team, but lets be real, why would anyone take JJ2, Malk and Nate, bench players who dont have much of an impact on a 33 win team?

You are not understanding my point. Posters are saying we should wait for next
year when his contract expires and we can sign him for nothing. This is not possible
unless he wants to sign for the MLE, which I seriously doubt.

You are right about that part. That would have to be a sign and trade at a much higher rate to make it worth the kings while. Now is the better time to get him

Well, he did say that he was going to sign with the Knicks when his contract was up, right after he was traded by Indy. Doubt he would sign for the MLE but if anyone was crazy enough to do it, it would be Ron.

But i agree, if he lands here, its going to have to be a trade perhaps a sign and trade next summer. But if we dont give up Balk for Ron, how many minutes will be left behind Ron for Balk, Chandler, JJ2, Nichols etc. Artest isn't young so he could potentially hold down the SF position for at least 5-6 years barring any blow-ups. So, one or 2 of the SF's would have to be moved eventually anyway.

Ditto

I essentially said the same thing last night but got lambasted. I was called a constant Hater and told I don't like anything about this team while giving props to Balkman and his hustling D, Lee's tenacious rebounding. I did take a shot at Jeffries but then again who doesn't.

You and I both know that the moment Balkman is traded, the same people who keep telling us how awesome Balkman is are going to downplay his abilities to being "average" or "an okay player". When you see that, I called it first.

B.I.N.G.O., B.I.N.G.O., B.I.N.G.O. and BADA B.I.N.G.O. Was The Name Yo!

Yep they'll say.... LOL We raped the Kings and got a DPOY while sending over a reckless, no shooting, just hustle, role player who might get DNP'd from night-to-night. BTW make sure Special Nate doesn't shove a Broom up K-Mart's bung when they take a shower after games.

THE END!

We're talking about trading for a guy(Artest) who said 2 yrs ago when his current contract is up he'd like to move back to New York and go play for Cleveland to come off the bench and backup Lebron James.

This guys CABBAGE doesn't function right yet we're willing to trade 2-3(youthful) players with possible upside for him.
