Garnett Puts Damper on Knicks' Playoff Plans

Kevin Garnett’s deal with Boston includes a five-year, $105 million extension, according to sources, which means that over his career Garnett has signed three separate contracts worth $100-plus million.

It’s also bad news for both the Knicks and Nets, two Atlantic Division teams that have coveted Garnett for years.

Dallas, Chicago, Cleveland and the Lakers all made last-ditch efforts to acquire Garnett before losing out to Boston. The Knicks were told last month that they didn’t have the assets to land Garnett, which has to be a bitter pill for Thomas to swallow.

It also didn’t hurt the Celtics that Danny Ainge and Kevin McHale have been boys for years. The joke among league GM's is that McHale only talks to two or three executives and in fact this is the second major deal McHale has orchestrated with his old team.

Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Garnett are a formidable trio but it doesn’t necessarily make the Celtics an instant contender. Think about it: all three played for teams that failed to reach the playoffs last year.

But Garnett’s arrival in Boston will make it difficult for the Knicks to qualify for the playoffs. Toronto, New Jersey and Boston all look better than the Knicks. And let’s not forget that Philadelphia, despite trading Iverson in December, finished ahead of the Knicks last season.

Isiah has now been caught as a bold-faced liar.

He told us we were stockpiling assets to land that one big player.

Zach Randolph, my friends, is not "that one big player". He has the same value ON THE COURT as a Richard Jefferson or Lamar Odom....aka Borderline All-Star, but not much else, even in the Leastern Conference.

And don't you need expiring contracts like Boston had to land a franchise player......and yet he cut two valuable expirings in Jalen and Mo.

AND to top it off, he's said he's rebuilding, and yet if you look at our starting lineup (all veterans), AND our cap situation (essentially phucked), I think it's safe to say Isiah is the biggest fabricator ever.

We did not give up our assets to get Randolph. Rather, Randolph is another asset that will allow us to get that superstar. I still believe as guys like Balkman, Lee, Nate, and Curry mature, we will have some serious trade assets to consolidate and balance out this team. We just need IT to make smarter decisions on future trades.
Trust the Process
