Given the way this team has been built with two scorers in the front court, would you rather have the 20/8 Marbury as the point guard of your team or a steady, lower producing point guard of the past such as Derek Harper or Charlie Ward?

In a related poll,

Would you prefer:

A) Winning

B) Losing

Is the order correlated to the order of the poll above? I know you love Marbury, is that why you have Marbury = Winning?

For the record, I attempted to leave the first option blank, but it didn't show up that way.
Next time I will have to have a "This option was intentionally left blank" like on legal documents.

It would be nice to have Chris Paul as our point guard... whats the chances?
I think he is a free agent the year that Steph is slated to be in Italy

we won't have any cap space to sign him... cap flexibility isn't important, remember?

Busted. You got me.

I'm just trying to lay low since Starbury is after me.

Question: if Marbs totally goes off the deep end and retires, he comes off the cap, right?

"Warp" over Starbury anyday.

If we are being revisionist, then the winning % and playoff success is by far a better testamony to them.
Marbury is a far superior talent and has better stats, but a team/pass first point vs a shoot first stat whore is better for winning.

Saying you perfer Harper/Ward over Marb is one thing. No sure how fair it is to compare winning % especially when Ward played with Ewing, LJ, Starks, Houston, Oak, Spree etc. Marb never playeed with anyone of the caliber that Ward played with in a Knick uni.

Not a knock against Marbs at all, but a Derek Harper type would be perfect for this team. Ward would work, but like Marbs you would have to have some other things to offset his major weaknesses.

Amare was a rook (they did make the playoffs that year), and KG barely scratched the surface yet (they made the playoffs aswell). So I guess if you put high quality players alongside Steph, he can help get a team into the playoffs.

Gugs was a 20-9 all star
KG was already a 18-10 all star

Yes he made the playoffs once with them but still only won 45 games.

With Amare and Marion it was only 46 games.

Those are his 2 best years win wise. I think most pgs could do that with those 4 guys.

Gugs definitely benefitted from having Steph on the team as did KG. There's no other way to look at it. Steph came in, in 96-97. The year before Gugs avg'd 16.2, with Steph 20.6 and he makes the All Star team. In fact his 2, 20pt seasons came with Steph.

The year before KG avg'd 10.4, but he was a rook, with Steph he jumped to 17 and then 18.5. Also an All Star and the team made the playoffs.

Steph has similar types of impact with other top players. Those guys still do well when Playing with him. Most of them had some of their best years playing with Steph. KVH and Marion are examples. This isn't to say that he made them what they are, but to say that he's not holding guys back with his style of play. I think even here in NY if guys can play they'll do well with Steph. He's not a hindrance to guys playing well. In my view a lot of guys just don't step up, the talent hasn't always been here and this team has been in transition since he got here. This is the 1st period of time that we've had some stability and I think we'll see some results. I like the talent we have.

Still for this team I think a guy that plays more like Harper would do well. Steph would do well with a team that has a lot of spot of shooters at every position. He could pick and knife his way thru the defense and hit guys for shots like he did when he 1st got here. It doesn't mean that he can't do well with this team, but he has had to clearly change what he normally does.

That's the struggle with Marbs is that he's never learned to play any other way. His hard headedness and antagonistic approach to coaches that were trying to help him(regardless of methods) has really prevented him from having a legendary career. Instead he will be forgotten within a few days of retirement.
