I'm a big Premo fan, but I'm not sure I want an entire Nas album produced by Premo. Premo is one of the top 5 producers ever in hip hop. I had a scratch magazine a while back and it said that Premo and Nas was going to work on the whole entire album after HHID but I have yet to hear anything about it. It was Written was my favorite Nas album, for some reason I like it better than Illmatic even though it is a classic and one of the best albums I have ever heard. Yeah Im happy too that Nas and Mega are cool again, they have like an on and off relationship, the kind that Nas and Prodigy had. I would defiently love a Firm 2 album but without Nature, I just want it Nas, Az, Foxy and Mega. The first one was one of my favorites, "throw your guns" was the best song on the album to me.

"ghetto life" by Rick James is his best song in my opinion.

Krs-1 is supposed to do a whole album produced by DJ premiere. Its supposed to be finished but they put out the wack album krs-1 and marley did first. Marley does suck. Krs-1 also sucked in this album to. I think 2 tracks were really good but the rest was wack.

Perhaps Marley is a little outdated now...but there is no doubt he was perhaps the best of the 80's.

I never thought that Marley Marl was a good producer. He was really overrated. As far as a Firm album, the main problem would be getting AZ with Nas. Mega and Nature speak to each other. As a matter of fact Nature is going to be Mega's next album.

He produced classics, Kanes "Long Live the Kane", G Raps "Road to the Riches", Biz Marks first joint, LL's "Mama said knock you out", some joints off Lords of the underground.....And the greates posse cut of all time "Symphony".
AZ and Nas got a little thing going on. Nas claims that Az does not return his phone calls. As far as Marley, Biz was the real ghost producer for many of the Juice Crew beats. Biz also made alot of beats for EPMD. Just like Eric B never really made beats. It was Large Professor all along. Marley was a good at mixing. Not really know for getting the beats.

I would take Jam Master Jay anyday over Marley.

Back in the day, the artists used to help each other. Everyone was basically connected in some way. I think its still that way but the product isn't the same anymore.

wow, great topic. i have so many of them that i can't really pick. i would have to say ice cube's "death certificate", followed by stevie wonder's "original musciqarium", and then pharcyde's "bizarre ride II the pharcyde". i am glad that a lot of people put quest in their top albums. i would too but their first three albums were so classic i can't decide which to put so i opted to put other albums. same with public enemy.

Thats interesting. I heard that Eric B was never the producer/Rakim, his brother, and later on Large Professor were the main producers. Never heard that Biz was the ghost producer for Marley. I wouldn't doubt that Biz produced some joints on his own album, but I'm not sure Biz produced most of Marleys catologue. Never heard the EPMD rumor either. I always figured Erick Sermon did most of the beats.

The Marly thing isn't tru. I know Marly and a lot of the Juice Crew dudes from the bridge. Biz had a hand in on production as far as his own stuff. Mainly his second album on. The Biz iz goin off and all that...straight Marly. Marly was one of the first dudes to popularize 808's over loops. His drums were also superior to most producers at that time. If you noticed, when Scott La Rock createdThe Bridge is Over he actually used Marly's drums and created a different pattern. But he also went on to use Marly's drums on other BDP records that had nothing to do wit a Juice Crew dis. Marly used to actually stay in the studio for hours MAKING drum sounds. combining kicks and EQ'ing them. This is why he drums on The Bridge sound so ahead of it's time. But as far as Biz ghost producing that's not tru. He may have had ideas here and there "yo Marly you should flip Blind Alley" or "You should flip Reach Out in the Darkness". But Marly was hands on as a producer wit that beat machine. Biz had nothin to do wit the likes of Raw, The Symphony, Droppin Science, Roxanne's Revenge, The Bridge, Boomin System, Jingling Baby, Around the Way Girl, Road to the Riches etc. The list goes on and on. I know Biz and he's got some really good ideas because he's a DJ. And he DOES have an ear for loops that would work. But Biz isn't really a producer at all. He's an artist wit the ear of a DJ.

Also, Jam Master Jay wasn't doing those beats. Davy DMX from Hollis was. From Beats to the Rhymes on back. Of course a lot of the earlier stuff was Rick Rubin and of course Kurtis Blow has some production on them.

As far as the Large Pro thing....that is definitely true! Not only did Large Pro produce those records that was also him scratching on those records, not Eric B.

Great post. Thats why in my last post I said that Biz produced some joint for his own album (I need a haircut and the Diabolical) but no way did he produce most of the hits in Marleys catalogue.

Marley Marl is the father to all the producers who sample and chop. He was the first. Also, did you know that Ced Gee of Ultramagnetic produced the entire Criminal minded album (except for the actual Criminal minded song). Ced Gee was the first kid in the BX with a SP 1200.

Wow!!! I did not know that about Ced. That is crrrrrrrrazy! I was always told it was Scott. But then again my knowledge of that camp is very sketchy. That's wassup man! And when u really listen to it you can tell that album was done on an SP. It was that certain frequency to it and it makes the drums real short and tight. Makes sense.

Biz has always been musicial gifted with the beats. Like Kane use to write Biz lyrics. Biz is now part of the Def Squad because he use to give beats to producers all the time. Marley did have beats but Biz did help out. I don't know which ones but Biz was part of the producing. Even Tru Master use to give Rza many tracks. As far as Sermon he did make many beats.

I did hear that Biz helped out with the Juice Crew beats. As far as the LL producing, that is all Marley. You have to give credit to Mr. Cee with Kane beats.
