It is easy to throw tomatoes when your not on stage. There are some stars in the limelight that truly deserve critiscm who have crossed the line of the law or just act in abhorrent/immoral behavior--there are many names on the list. I haven't seen where Stephon Marbury has done anything that would promote such belligerent retorts. I think jealousy is a key factor is this overzealous rage.

I'm far from a hater but do you think it is legitimate to wonder what was going on with Marbury when he was on Mikedup?

Maybe he suffers from what George W has.

I never wanted Marbury when Isiah traded for him, but I have nothing but praise for his community involvment to urban america.

His interviews are sad/funny at times , but when the cameras are off him he really does well with the marketing of the shoes and many people are jealous that he could pull this off.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Steph comes across better in person with the fans, cuz they can tell he's not any different than they are. He's just a Brooklyn boy and he found success in the NBA. He's been giving back for a long time now and to those he's been benefitting, he's looked at in a positive light. I'm in Greogia and down here you run into a lot of people who aren't very articulate, but they aren't stupid. They just never learned how to properly express themselves. I give talks in front of large groups on a regular basis and I can tell you that it's not easy. I've never had a problem with expressing my thoughts orally, but I can appreciate how hard it can be for someone who isn't used to doing it.

One thing that I will say is that he's not afraid or put off from doing it anyway. I'm sure he's heard the nasty comments regarding his speech. Still he keeps doing what he does. He's not hiding from the public or his desire to help. I respect him for that.

Don't get me wrong, I love Islesfan. I think he is hilarious. I think some of you guys take him waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to seriously. And I think others just don't understand that 90% of what he says is to get under your skin. Once you stop letting it, you realize his sarcasm is hilarious.

That being said, in this case I feel he is way off line. Once again as a person that grew up poor(but have money now thankfully) I would have loved to see a player like Marbs step up and do this. It would be a hell of a lot more peaceful going to school with Marbury's on than my old buddies. While I do understand being annoyed by the fact that this is called charity, I don't understand why such a good thing is being turned into something bad. It doesn't make sense to me. Give the guy a break. I have never been a big Marbs fan, as a matter of fact as an oncourt personality I can't stand him, but if you are going to be fair, be fair. This shoe thing, is a good thing.

As for his image. Marbs needs to take a deep breath and realize that the world isn't out to get him. That people are fair and in general do not pick on individuals for the sake of picking on them. Marbs has brought a lot of this on himself. Fighting with teammates, coaches, pouting at the beginning of last season. Taht was his doing, not the fans, noone else. He's trying to fix this and I give him some credit. But 60 games and some shoes isn't going to change perception overnight. You have to work. YOu have to stop complaining and go. Instead of worrying about whether people are talking about you smiling to much now, just keep smiling and forget about it.

The best thing for Marbs's career would have been this: When LB was tearing him apart in the press he should have kept his mouth shut and tried to lead. Had he done this, LB would have been the bad guy and Marbs would have come off as a saint. Instead he joined the fray and became a part of the problem. HE's trying to grow up but the best thing for him to do is to close his mouth and just show everyone who he is, by doing his job. Stop begging for credit.

Can someone please document where anyone has made this into "something bad"?

People are poking fun at the hype of the "movement", the hubris that surrounds Marbury's aspect of it (in contrast to, say, Steve and Barry themselves), and the gullibility of so many that lap up every aspect of the PR.

Exaggerating that into people "turning this into something bad" is an unworthy deflection of a worthwhile discussion.

So what you are saying is that when we discuss Marbury's shoes the brainiacs among us are actually making fun of the foolish fans for falling for the "charity" PR. And that these posts never deviate into attacks on Marbs, his career, his intellect etc. Good one.

No bip, I asked for those who insist that people are turning his shoe gig into "something bad" to evidence it, and until they do it's a diversion from the actual discussion at hand. It's called a straw man.

Did you watch that interview? If you don't think Marbury was on drugs, then you think he's a complete and utter moron and possibly the dumbest person in the world (which, btw, is my view). So, you agree with me then. Great.

ah, bridge-and-tunnel video game nerds. gotta love'm.

Not my fault that logic has escaped you morons.

How about this trueBlue I beleive it happens often. You beleive it never happens. Let's leave it at that. I have never heard anyone call the actual shoes and the cost of the shoes a bad thing. But I have heard the campaign, Marbs, the length of time he spends on the campaign attacked on a regular basis. To me it's agenda driven. To you it's only about the charity aspect. I guess we can leave it at that as well.

Bip, I've always appreciated your opinions and enjoyed your posts. I also hope to one day earn an invite to one of your exclusive parties. When you say that I've crossed a line, I legitimately go over what I've posted and look to see if I have indeed crossed a line.

I admit that I've been insulting, at times perhaps very. But I don't think it's been any greater than the continued insulting of Knicks fans intelligence that Marbury and MSG have been guilty for years now. Between Marbury's handlers ghostwriting this blog and passing it off as Marbury's and how Marbury seems to have some kind of God complex, confusing business with actual charity work, I find it to be incredibly insulting.

It's insulting to the hundreds of thousands of people who donate their time, energy and hard earned money to causes, without getting or expecting any accolades or earning a single cent in profit. Call it what it is, a business venture that targets low income families. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. But when he gets into the whole "movement" crap, it gets insulting and I have no regrets for being as insulting back.

As for my comment about Marbury being on more coke than Tony Montana, it sure makes more sense than "his" lame "people don't like it when I smile" BS.

Bip, thanks again for your constructive criticism, no matter how far off base it is.

What Marbury should get credit for is being smart enough to be the first to put his name (Steve and Barry aren't moving units without Starbury) to the cheap-sneaker movement.

Also, the contributions to Katrina victims and NYC Police and Fire departments should be recognized to death, in order to pressure/shame other sports celebrities to also donate to the cause.

Marbury is using his fame wisely. Its still HIS fame to use. Without this ego, there is nothing.

Sorry, but isn't Marbury donating millions of his shoe profits to New York City Charities?

So, how is that not Charity work?

Why should his charitable contributions be "recognized to death"? Do you have any idea how many people have contributed to those causes, especially Katrina? Thousands of people have given more than they can afford to help others and those are the people who should be "recognized to death". What Marbury has contributed should be acknowledged and it's a good job on his part but why the rush to make it out to be more than it is?

Donate ALL the profits and it's a charitable endeavor.

Donate a small percentage of profits and it's a tax break.
