I don't think Q has ever had a position. He was a 6'5" 4 man that happened to have a decent outside shot (but not much of a 2 pt'er). I like that the guy rebounds and plays harder than the rest of the team even when he's hurt, but I've never been a big fan of his game (lots of chucks and no mid range ability).

q's shot is way inconsistent from the perimeter...but of all our perimeter guys, he may be the only 2-way player of the bunch. (marbury if committed and healthy). he brings a toughness that we miss when he's not there (kind of like paul o'neill on the yanks). for that only he should start at the sg...but we need a severe upgrade at both starting 1 and 2 spots eventually.

rembee - both Chandler and Nichols are investments. I would be surprised if either made the rotation but I've been surprised before.

The other Knicks returning from nagging injuries/surgery: Richardson, Marbury, Crawford, Collins and Lee make the decision at three critical. Why? Perhaps, because of the domino effect on skill-sets that can be put on the floor at any given time.

If the critical need is for complimentary defensive players, any offense that a player can provide is a bonus.

Jeffries, although he is not the sexy pick, is still able to create more defensive matchup problems from the three.

Just like Renaldo.

who got next?

People hate on Renaldo's O, but you have to put a body on him. Just like Lee he finds away to score by finishes, putbacks and some drives. This is unlike Jared Jeffries who is completely left alone in the perimeter wondering whether he recorded South Park (copywright eViL on that joke). That's why you can't afford to have Jeffries out there- you can't afford to play 4 on 5 against any team in this leauge even if that guy is giving you above average D (and I still don't think JJ's D is all that special).

of all the off season praying i've been doing, it's that jj2 is ready to be the defender that he's been hyped to be.

if he can steady the defense, I prefer q at the 2 starting with marbs and bringing balkamania off the bench with his lee-ness and crawfish.

Balkman's such a better defender than JJ. JJ doesn't do anything that Balkman doesn't.

Balkman is far the superior player to anything we have for the three spot for what we need. We dont need an energy guy off the bench with Lee--we need a glue man who works hard and plays viscious D on the starting unit. I don't care how much they $ Jefferies or if iT has to vindicate the ego with that 33mm Balkman is a superior defensive player--an IMPACT player ready to happen NOW. Hes an obvious choice for 35+ minutes and starting 3. Nichols can score and hes long. Because we dont have shooters off the bench I can see a niche role. Im still formulating opinion on Chandler but looks like atleast 10 D league games but the same was said about balkman last year. I could care less about $$$ let the 15 best players make the team.

Lee's defense isn't great but having his defensive rebounding on the floor ensures that we deny the other team a second opportunity when we do get a stop, and his offensive rebounding gets us more possessions.

So he isn't going to shine as a defender, but as a team we probably do as well with him on the floor as we would if we had good defender at the 4. No shot-blocking, though.

Again, Lee isn't going to get more than 25 minutes per. Only good news there is that Randolph is no slouch in the rebounding department either.

So your gameplan is to rely that opponent misses their easy shots that Randolph and Lee can grab the defensive rebounds. Nice. I rather keep them out of the post and not rely on wishful thinking. That's one reason I would have like to seen Lee in the SL to see if he improve his low post defense.

Briggs - I would have no problem being an advocate to start Renaldo. For some reason I don't think that money will determine who receives the majority of critical minutes from Isiah.

These are all his players now.

I'm headed to LasVegas on Thursday morning, on my way rafting down the freakin' Colorado River.

If djsu grants copyright clearance, I'll attempt a "Live From the wooden stands at Summer League" report for the Sacramento Game.

Then again, perhaps I'll just catch Nate or Ron Artest playing the slots at a drug store.

Steph, Q, Jared, Zach & Curry
Lee, Jamal, Balkman & Mardy

Spot minutes for Nate, Morris, Malik & James.

Chandler and Nichols get some D league time and maybe one gets called up due to injury or if he feels we need another shooter.

Jones and Dickau will likely be waived. They only amount to about 7mil. This way they can go and sign with another team and we can keep the guys we really want, except for James who will be the team Mascot.

For god's sake, WHY JJ2 in the SL? He brings nothing!
Anyone but him!

I'd rather start Balk at the 3. Last year this team was notorious for getting off to slow starts. Balk brings instant energy to the starting lineup. Plus his defense, shotblocking, rebounding, slicing to the basket on O, baseline work, and complete effectiveness without the ball are much needed to our starting lineup. Too many guys who need the ball to be affective. Balk doesn't.

some players are just better coming off the bench. others are better starting. you look to see where the weaknesses are and then insert your "go getters"

I'd rather see curry, zach, JJ and QRich fail and then get emabarrassed by the bench, then have our bench get their weaknesses overmatched and then our starters come in cold (usually needing a quarter to get going) and by then we're done.

It been the opposite in recent years, but for some reason, I think Balk plays better when he's the leader of the squad of kids than when he's out there watching marbury force feed zach or curry.

JJ2 fits that mold better...he's a content having no voice, but balk is the star in the making and I'd like to see his second year in his role than end up with another Frye situation.
