I think dumars has done a good job already, he has a nice young backcourt he drafted, prince is young and maxiell is a beast that kid is going to be a terror and they still have the ability to make a nice trade with Wallace and Hamilton.

Billups get four years max which leaves them in good position

I don't think the Petrie understands anything to be honest. He made the cardinal sin, drafting big white and slow, which pays off zero percent of the time.

If he had any clue what he was doing, which he doesn't he would know something about drafting. And about signing John Salmons what an awful deal. Kevin Martin was a nice selection but he is the only card for the kings. He should have moved Bibby a year ago when he was slowing down.

The dude has no real backup pg, and decides to take Douby?
Marcus Williams, Lowry, Rando?

This year he has a chance to really get a great player and takes Hawes?
Thaddeus Young, Julian Wright, Al Thorton

He would have solidfied two starting positions to go with martin and really start towards something in the future.

But I am still very scared, isiah has a way of getting excited, moving expiring deals for long term ones, including trade kickers, giving away lottery picks, 2nd rounders, and taking on players to get medicore talent

I agree about Hawes. He has bust written all over him.

Petrie is a competent GM who has made several mistakes over the past few seasons. I think IT is a better drafter and I like this Knicks team better than any team Sacramento is likely to put on the court over the next 2-3 years. If he thinks anyone is giving him a good deal for Artest, he is fooling himself. The fact that Artest is underpaid, the Kings need a player like him, and they still want to trade him speaks volumes for the problems Artest likely is causing in the locker room and on the court. No GM, including IT, is going to give him good value for Artest at this point. They fired Aldeman when he got the most out of that team, which was a bad move (wait until Aldeman takes Houston deep into the playoffs next year).

I agree that comparing IT to other GM's is not really helpful. Guys like Knight, Ainge, Bird, and McHale IMO have done worse jobs as the GM of their teams and the GMs for teams like Detroit, San Antonio, and Toronto have obviously done better jobs that IT. IT is not a great GM but he is also not the worse GM in the league and I think he is learning from his past mistakes and will do a better job going forward. I still think he has to make the playoffs this year to justify his tenure, but I am more than willing to give him that opportunity.

Gm ususally are dictated to fulfill a plan set out by the owner.

The Maloofs are calling many of the shots. They take chances, like the idiocy of Musselman who like his old man melted down. but he corected the mistake and moved on.

I think they are looking at rebuilding but not in a panic and not be stupid about it.

They will not have the instant gratification thing going on their and the fans will have to look down the road a bit with what they have to dismantle.
