WIN? All this guy has done is win.. until the GM decided to blow up the team.

2001/02: Under new Coach Maurice Cheeks the off court troubles continue to embarrass the franchise as several players are involved in off court incidents that lead to the press calling the team the "Jailblazers." The off court distractions seemed to effect the team early as the Blazers were struggling along with a record of 13-18 early in January. However, the Blazers would turn it around winning 30 of their next 38 games as they made the playoffs for the 20th straight season with a record of 49-33. However, for the second year in a row the Trailblazers would be swept by the Los Angeles Lakers in 3 straight games.

2002/03: The Trailblazers continue to be an embarrassment off the court as Oregon State officials and Owner Paul Allen express displeasure in the continued troubles with Blazers players and the law. All total in 6 years since 1997, 14 different players had been either arrested or citied for 30 different incidents ranging from sexual assault to marijuana possession. However, on the court the Trailblazers continued to play strong basketball finishing in 3rd place with a solid 50-32 record. In the playoffs the Blazers would lose 3 straight to the Dallas Mavericks. However, with the first round being changed to a best of 7 the Blazers were not done. Instead they won 3 straight to force a 7th game. However a late 4th quarter scoring drought would due the Blazers in as the Mavs won Game 7 in Dallas 107-95.

2003/04: After years of off the court troubles and playoff under achieving the Trailblazers under new GM John Nash, decided to rebuild. Through out the season the Trailblazers dealt away talented by troubled stars like Bonzi Wells and Rasheed Wallace. Taking up the slack was Zach Randolph who led the team in scoring with 20.1 ppg and rebounding with 10.5 boards per game on the way to being named NBA's Most Improved Player. However the Blazers 21-year streak of making the playoffs would come to an end as they finished in 4th place with a record of 41-41.

2004/05: It was a year of transition for the Trailblazers as the team began a youth movement. Giving players like Rookie Sebastian Telfair significant playing time down the stretch as the team focused on the future. When the season started the Blazers were actually competitive posting a winning record in November. However as the New Year rolled around the Blazers took their lumps winning just 4 of 15 games in January as they went on to finish in 4th Place in the Northwest Division with a dreadful 27-55 record, as Coach Maurice Cheeks was replaced the final 2 months with interim Coach Kevin Pritchard. Following the season the transition continued as veterans like Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Nick Van Exel and Damon Stoudamire were allowed to go elsewhere as they signed free agent CoachNate McMillian to lead the young team into the future.

2005/06: With new Coach Nate McMillian the Trailblazers were looking more toward the future, as going into the season it was clear there was a lack of talent to compete on a high level, especially in the Western Conference. One player that was a bright spot was Zach Randolph who was the Blazers leading scorer with 18.0 ppg. However, points were not plentiful for the Blazers who were the lowest scoring team in the NBA. Things would go bad to worse after the All-Star Break as the Blazers won just 5 of their last 39 games which included an 11-game losing streak, and an 8-game losing streak in their last 20 games as the Blazers finished with the worst record in the NBA at 21-61. Following the season the Trailblazers were the busiest team on draft day, trading Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff, and the Blazers 2nd round pick in 2008 to the Boston Celtics for Raef LaFrentz, Dan Dickau, and the rights to the #7 pick in the draft Randy Foye, whom was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves for the #6 pick Brandon Roy. They would also trade their #4 pick Tyrus Thomas along with Viktor Khryapa to the Chicago Bulls for the rights to the #2 pick, LaMarcus Aldridge.

Guys like Randolph have to learn that you get judged on the things that you actually do, not on the things that you tell people you plan to do in the future if they just give you a chance.

I agree absolutely. But you need to give the guy a chance. Its the off-season, and he had to say something for the cameras.

Although, wouldnt it have been fun if he got up there and declared his intentions to start a gunfight/smoke up/diddle some girl in every nightclub in NYC.

Who's not giving him a chance? He has a 12 billion dollar contract to play basketball. Who is robbing him of a chance. As a matter of fact he has gotten about 80 chances and seems to let people down consistently. It's now time to put up or shut up. I'm not robbing him of any chances. I'm not stealing his shoes before games. I'm not slipping mickey's into his drink. I'm expecting him to walk the straight and narrow now that he is on my team. If he does that, then he deserves respect for turning it around. But the truth is based on his past actions it's difficult to give the man the benefit of the doubt.

Im just saying, he cant prove much until he gets on the court, and that doesnt happen till November. Besides, a lot of our other "prove yourself" cases, ie Crawford, Frye, Curry, Nate involve proving that they can produce on the court. Zach has already proven that.

If Randolph goes through the next season averaging 24-12 and we end up with 33 wins, thats a bust in my eyes. We all know he can produce, but can he produce wins?

Zach's press conference yesterday sounded more like a parole hearing.

It'll be good practice for him in the future.

And like this was some comment we all needed to hear. Thanks, we are all enlightened from your viewpoint.

Let's put it this way(and no I am not calling Zach a thief I'm just making a point):

1.) Let's say Zach goes to live with your best friend and robs him of $1000 dollars. Your best friend throws him out of the house.

2.) A month later Zach apologizes and begs to live with your best friend again. He pays him back $1000 and says it will never happen again. YOur best friend gives him a second chance and let's him move back in. A month later Zach robs your best friend of $2000

3.) A few months later, feeling bad for him another good friend let's Zach move in. Zach makes promises and thanks your friend and tells him he's a changed man. A month later Zach robs your friend of $3000 dollars and get's arrested.

4.) After serving a couple months in jail when he gets out he comes to you. He begs you for forgiveness and tells you he is a changed man. He says things like "Don't judge me for the past," Randolph said. "Judge me for the future. I've wiped my hands. It's a new start, new slate."

Depending on your relatiionship with Zach you may actually let him move in to your place. But only a fool wipes the slate clean. A normal human being may show compassion and give Zach a chance to redeem himself but is going to make him earn priveleges and kudos. Money will be locked up. Zach's friends would not be allowed in the house. Zach would not have keys to the car. Zach would be forced to get a real job.

We seem to have a team of guys that thinks you earn respect based on the things you could do if you weren't doing the things you are actually doing.

01/02 he played in 41 games and averaged 5.8 minutes.
02/03 he played primarily off the bench for 16.9 mpg.

since as you say he took up the reins the team has gone down precipitously. i won't presume to blame him personally, but he by no means has a winning resume.

and, in answer to your question on what more he has to do in addition to the 23/10, i would have said "play defense."

"Just looking around, the guys we got, Curry, Marbury, Jamal. Those guys are All-Stars," Randolph said.

Not only has Randolph never made the All-Star team, he apparently doesn't watch the game either.

on a side note, it's possible frye's stay in portland is a short one as he may be moved for a small forward very soon.

You're right he can't prove himself until he's on teh court. But that's the breaks. When you walk the straight and narrow noone questions you during the offseason. But when you are viewed as a troublemaker and unreliable by your team and teammates you unfortunately have to prove yourself at the next location. That's life.

Exactly, as soon as Randolph had to play a bigger role, like the one he'll be asked to play in NY, his team stopped winning.

Thanks for providing proof.

Any idea of who else was offered up for Randolph? I'm curious to see what they turned down in order to take Frye and Franchise.

DJ was reporting over a month that NJ was going to trade Jefferson for Randolph. He liked the possible trade.

"A person familiar with trade talks said Portland turned down better offers from Denver, Dallas, Seattle and San Antonio because the Blazers didn't want him in the West."

I find this hard to believe. Denver wants to shed itself of more complete players like Camby or Nene but wanted to pick up Randolph? Randolph is not a San Antonio type player, plus what do they have to offer outside of Parker, Duncan, Ginobolli? Seattle, trying to trim payroll, wants to add a huge contract while they still have collison and wilcox? For Dallas, Randolph plays the same position as Dirk.

LOL, I remember when the rumors were out there about Rodman going to Chicago. And fans were like it will never happen. When it comes to teams trying to win all that other stuff about not being that "type" of player gets thrown out the window.

If Portland traded Zach to another team how many of the people that are ripping the knicks for this trade would rip the knicks for not getting Zach?
You just can't satisfy some people. They hate Isiah and want to rip every move he makes. You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't.

if you happened to check the rumor thread when it was talked about that Zach may go to the Nets, i was highly in favor of that deal going down, both because it would get RJ out of town & that it would hunker the Nets down w/that albatross contract for the next 4 years.

I remember that yr. Ratliff averaged 4.4blks 7rebs per game. Randolph was providing lowpost scoring and rebounding. Darius Miles played like a monster defensively down the how stretch. Rahim was playing good inside-outside game. Stoudemire was nailing 3s. They came on strong at the end of the season and almost made playoffs.

The key is for them was the balance. Ratliff & Randolph perfectly complimented each other at PF & Center. Darius Miles also played excellent perimeter defense and caused havoc with his length and atheltism.

Im not made at the Randolph trade. I just don't trust Isiah Thomas to balance the roster and maximize the Randolph trade.

The Randolph trade could be a success. But Isiah Thomas has to trade Curry for a shotblocking defensive anchor on defense. He also needs to trade Crawford for a pure SG who excells at with outside shooting.
