Keep their man in front of them?

What happens when an opposing team runs the pick and roll? What happens when the other team has a good low post player? Wait, I know....Jerome James in the starting lineup.

Actually Nichols and Chandler are more known for their offensive prowess than their defense.

Who is a lockdown defender in our starting lineup? Is Mardy suddenly our starting PG? Who's going to lock down guys on the perimeter in our starting lineup?

So you are going against most NBA scouts and experts saying that Chandler is a raw offensive player but a good defender with the upside to be a great defender. And those same scouts who say that Nichols is a player who defends but can also score. Damn.

Who knows, maybe Randolph will surprise everyone and play some defense out necessity. I had the same feeling about Larry Johnson, who for years thought incapable of playing post defense but surprised when he came to the Knicks. So I am never going to say it won't happen but saying that. Randolph is a much better defender than the guy he is replacing. And I am no fan of Randolph.

Recap:
first question from kellerman was if he will trade curry, lee, or randolph for kobe or kg. Isiah said no basically then to trades, then max asked him about the interior defense (curry and randolph average 0.7 blocks......together). Isiah then said it is the guards responsibility to keep their men infront of them and that blocking shots is not all that important. THen he said how the knicks are a old fashioned rebounding and power team. Then kellerman suggested a kobe trade again and Isiah said he is trying basically, and that it is semi possible and he is open to everything. Then he said that NIchols (for those who dont know we drafted him at 54) is a lights out shooter and a good perimeter defender and is pleased with that pick. He didnt really mention chandler.

Why would Mardy be our starting PG when we have Steph?

In the last 2 drafts Isiah has made sure to add guys that can defend. We saw how good Balkman and Mardy were last year and Chandler has been compared to Tyrus Thomas in terms of his athelticism. He had 47 blocks this year. Nichols has a 7ft wingspan and is also shown to be a decent defender. They'll be given more instruction and i'm sure they'll be fine defensively. We have already seen Steph and Q can defend. I think we WILL improve our perimeter D as we go along. Just remember this is a young team. It's not about just next season, but the development of this team over the next 5 years. I think we're in good shape talent wise.

I don't know if I'd consider Nichols a lights out shooter....but I am hoping he is.

Almond should have been a knick, he just drafts the most athletic player left in the draft and it usually works because athletes can play a role on any team

I like Almond but I don't think he is what a lot of people on this forum became to think what he was. He had trouble getting open without a screen during camp and in his workouts. He utilize head fakes a lot in college. Ran into trouble when trying to create his own shot. This was Frye's problem last season. Defenders started getting in his face and he tried to do something off the dribble which he couldn't do. Almond is a guy that needs to be set up. Unfortunately, the Knick point guards can't do that and Curry can't pass out of the post for ****. So I think his Knick career would have been the same as say a Hubert Davis with Patrick Ewing. I like him on Utah with Williams.

Do you have curry and zach commanding doubles, and marbury and crawford breaking down the defense, and he would have been open......

He averaged 26 a game and teams gameplanned for him i think he would have been good there.....we needed affalo instead of chandler as well

Unfortunately you are assuming your point guards and center can get him the ball. I am still waiting for Curry to kick out of the post. I think set up shooters do well in college because the typical college player tend to buy head fakes a lot. See Hubert Davis' career at UNC. I am not a fan of Affalo. To each their own.
