So wait the Wolves will only get one sure lottery pick for KG which may or may not be an impact player. Two late first round picks and the only the hopes that Atlanta stinks again next year after a year where they draft in great positions. With Garnett gone, what are the chances that they can utilize any of that cap space on quality free agents. Is that what KG is worth a bunch of unproven picks?

Supposedly Phx passed on a deal for McGrady in 2004

Marion and Joe Johnson

4

McGrady and lottery pick(Deng)

It's interesting on what they passed on back then and gave up while rising to contention. Man Phx could of had a roster of

Nash
McGrady
Deng or Iguodola
Amare
?

YIKES!!!!!!!!

It's nice to hear Marion is being heavily shopped as he should be.

What happened is this. K.G. and Minny mgmt obviously had preliminary discussions about a possible departure. K.G. mentions he wants to go to Phx if he were to leave Minny but his preference is to stay. Minny obliges in making an inquiry to Phx to gauge if they would have interest if they were to trade with Minny. Phx wants to give up Marion and draft assets, expiring contract(s). Minny doesn't want Marion. A third team needs to be involved. They call Boston because they've had interest in Marion in the past and Doc Rivers likes him. Mchale talks to Danny and of course from discussion Danny is informed K.G. is somewhat on the block just not necessarily to Boston. Marion and his agent obviously catch wind of this and word gets back to Boston he doesn't want to go there. So Danny puts an incredible offer on the table to bypass the option of acquiring Marion, but instead wants K.G. Mchale was probably blown away somewhat by the offer of Al, Green, Theo, Telfair, and #5 pick. Danny spills the beans to the media and puts their name out there with K.G. cause obviously Danny is desperate. He wants to pump up his credibility that he's trying to get things done while at the same time boosting his assets. Word gets back to K.G.'s camp he might be headed to Boston and he wants no part of it. If K.G.'s camp thought they might possibly go to Phx why didn't we all hear a report from Phx's camp that they might trade for K.G. or that discussions had taken place? That's because Danny Ainge jumped the gun and basically tried to sabatoge any K.G. deal to Phx. So K.G.'s agent specifically mentions Phx is the preferred relocation of his client not Boston. Minny's owner then comes out and says the likelyhood of a K.G. deal is slim and that an incredible offer has to be put on the table to get him. All of sudden we start hearing from Steve Kerr in the media how now Amare may have to be involved in a package. Well obviously because neither K.G. or Marion want to go to Boston and because Boston's offer is a killer package. Most reports we hear now are the deal is still alive coming from the Boston media and no doubt they are the ones feeding the specifics of such discussions.

What a Rat Bastard Danny Ainge is and if I were Mchale I'd be pretty pissed at my former teammates for selling out.

The Wolves don't want Marion, so the Suns tried to peddle him to Boston through Minnesota VP Kevin McHale's old pal, Celtics director of basketball operations Danny Ainge, in a convoluted three-team deal that would result in the Wolves getting Paul Pierce and Boston's No. 5 pick in the draft, among other considerations.

Marion balked, saying he would opt out of his contract after one year (Garnett can do the same after next season). When Garnett balked at a proposed deal to Boston, the Wolves and Suns continued talks.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

The #5 pick Bonn. Gosh.
It didn't say who that pick was coming from. That's a sweet deal for Boston.

This deal would probably make us the last place team in the division.

Minn would be doing a full rebuild if they did this trade. They're not getting any big name players; just a ton of good draft picks.

With the way Isiah has drafted, I wouldn't mind getting four picks this year in a deep draft and two next year.

Its a question of what Minny drafts- there are always some nice quality players there in the late first round.

And depending on what Atlanta does next year, they could have 2 high picks with their own.

Minny would be stupid not to do this deal.

That SI report isn't clear on what Boston is giving up, but you'd have to think that if you were going to try to rebuild through the draft, this would be the year to do it. Pull the trigger Minny!
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Apparently O'neal has informed them and Danny wasn't that keen on acquiring him.

From The Boston Globe
There are ongoing discussions concerning a four-team trade that could send Pacers forward/center Jermaine O'Neal to the Celtics, according to league sources. But those same sources said that it is extremely unlikely that O'Neal will ever play in a Boston uniform. Celtics executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge has never been a big fan of O'Neal's, and there remains the not-so-small matter of O'Neal being able to opt out of his contract after next season.

During the 2005 playoffs, Ainge and O'Neal exchanged words through the media during the first-round series between the Celtics and Pacers. After Ainge criticized O'Neal for "crying" when he complained about the Celtics' physical play, O'Neal told Ainge to "shut his mouth and do what he does, and that's run the team."
That would seem to make such a trade unlikely.

Apparently this was the official offer from the Celtics

If the four teams involved agreed to the deal as discussed yesterday, the Celtics would send Theo Ratliff, Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair, and the No. 5 pick to the Timberwolves and receive just O'Neal in return. Kevin Garnett would go from Minnesota to the Lakers. The Timberwolves would receive big man Kwame Brown and the No. 19 pick from the Lakers. The Pacers would take Lakers forward Lamar Odom and young Lakers center Andrew Bynum to complete the transaction.

So Theo, Bassy, Green, Kwame, #5 and #19 for K.G. That's a lot of value right there. $20mil+ in expiring contracts in Theo and Kwame, 2 first round draft pick prospects in Green and Bassy and 2 current first round draft picks 1 being a Lottery pick.
