Woodson called Conley the "most natural point guard" of the three. Knight praised Conley after Monday's workout, while downplaying concerns about Conley's size (6-1, 175). "He's a good player and fine young man. We like him," Knight said. "Mike's a great athlete, a great athlete. Obviously with his family [Mike Conley Sr. won an Olympic gold medal in the triple jump], having that athleticism and background ... he's also got a great vertical and great upper body strength. But you realize that because of his athleticism and his length — he's really long in his wingspan — he plays a lot bigger than he is." Big enough for the Hawks to hand over the keys to the franchise to a 19-year-old floor leader with just one year of college experience instead of trading for a more experienced "insurance policy"? "We think we'll get a guard in this whole deal," Knight said. "We're very fortunate to be in the position we're in and we feel good about it and we know we're going to get two good players out of this, and whether it's drafting them or however we're going to get them, we feel good about it." Once, when the younger Conley was 8 years old, the older Conley popped in a video of himself running the 200 meters at Arkansas. “I was the proud father showing my son how fast I used to run, and how I took second place in college against a silver medalist in the Olympic Games,” recalled the older Conley. As the younger Conley watched the video, he burst into tears after the older Conley crossed the finish line. “He was crying like crazy and saying, ‘You lost, Daddy. I can’t believe you lost.’ That tells you how competitive he’s always been. You can’t teach that.” No, but you can draft that. [Edited by - playa2 on 25-06-2007 20:52]
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.
