if you trade with a team under the cap you just don't have to take back equal salary... there's no way in hell the Lakers dump Kobe for cap space... they'll want good young talent & picks at the bare minimum... is Hedo Turkoglu, Darko Milicic & Trevor Ariza a better package than D Lee, Frye, Jamal, Balkman & #23 pick? come on, let's get real here.
but then doesn't at least most of that difference in salary become a trade exception - one they could spin around and use immediately? i'm just wondering on the technicalities of that kind of trade, not proposing any particular package. i agree talent-wise orlando is a tough sell...
actually a 3 way trade could be a possibility now that i think about it. another team knows it has no shot at kobe but gets in on the action for the exception/cap space. at least increases the possibilities.
