I hate when guys don't make quick decisions with the ball in pickup games. The ball will swing out to them and they'll just stand there for a couple of seconds looking around trying to be basketball professors, and meanwhile all the opportunities are lost as the defense recovers.

You play with Steve francis?

I wish I did just so I could try to teach him how to shoot a damn jumper.

No lie, women that are good at basketball are the dirtiest players on the planet. I play in a co-ed league up in boston. It's pretty competitive and there are some really good women players. But the dirtiest **** done to me is always done by a woman. They don't live by the same "code" that men live by in sports. You know the code. The code of not punching a guy in the wang who is guarding you real close.

True story. Loose ball. We are fighting for it. I beat her to it and turn to go up court. With closed fist she bashes me right in the area. The ref of course is blocked out and misses me falling to the ground. I wanted to rip her appart, but of course but can't because she is a woman. That's some bull shiot. No code man, no code.
I just hope that people will like me

I also hate to see guys admitt like a bitch that they can't guard a certain guy. I'm like **** it, you don't wanna guard him? I will guard him. I'm a man just like him. If he bust my ass so be it. Chances are he won't score all the points in the game so I will be a man and man up! Just like highfivesuckas story. Strip his ass all day and play ball.

I also hate when you are playing with old guys like in their 50s, and there is this young dude playing so hard and talking **** like their at the rucker. No offense to the older guys on the board but you guys aint trying to prove anything, you just trying to get a good sweat and play ball. If a 20-25 year old guy is talking smack to a 50 year old man then he needs to be beat the hell down! Respect the game is what I say.

This is turning out to be a pick up game expose, Lol.

How bout the idiot that calls move and pick? How bout the ******* that calls illegal defense? How bout the idiots that agree with them? Those are 2 calls you can't make in a pick-up game. There are no refs for christsakes!

i was in greece over the summer. had an opportunity to play ball out there one day. on one play, they called an offensive foul. i didn't question it, but when was the last time you heard an offensive foul call in the US?

Dang. They call offensive foul on me all the time.

Ouch! That's when you start doing flying drop kicks.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Yeah man women are dirty players. The push and do a lot of reaching. They also do that Bruce Bowen thing where they try to take your legs out.

I hate when you playing pick up in college to stay in shape rostered on a Div. III school and some football jock knocks your feet from under you and you break a bone in your neck ending your playing days as you knew it.

I miss the uncanny abilty to do things with a basketball without thinking and just amazing yourself as to how the hell you did it?

I miss being 5-9 and taping a ball in traffic and my finger grazing the rim.

I miss the feeling of a crisp uniform, super white sneakers, setting up at the foul line and everyone looking at my bad self!

I miss the agony of defeat because there is not jubulation of victory without it. The balance of victory was always better, but defeat made you feel alive too!

I miss the feel of a ball on a fresh waxed court.

I miss slapping my hand on the backboard, the feel of a perfect ball in my hands, and the squeek of sneakers.

I miss playing. But I like managing my health even more.

Im grateful for my years on the court. Being a basketball player, as good one gave me self esteem when I needed it as a child, and helped me grow up.

Even the cruelty of getting injured taught me many of lifes lessons that I needed to know. Its still sucked, but without that occurance I would not have met my wife. And for some that might be a good thing, but We together over 25 years now and its good. Real good.

Hate: My son sucked at basketball. Instead he became a big time Ice hockey player, but to watch him shoot a ball in a game was painful.

Love: Teammates that trust me as I trust them.

Hate: I was a member of this adult pick up game league for a few years, and towards the end of my tenure, there was this huge football player kid, who was like 300 lbs and 6'5". Now right now, I'm a big guy, but I was much thinner, and I'm working on that as we speak, kinda, but at the time, I loved guarding that guy despite the size advantage. Once in a blue moon, he would try to shoot a 3 against me, but for the most part, he would try and posterize me and I freaking loved blocking his shots or stopping him and grabbing rebounds. There were times when I did my best though, and he was still able to score. Point is, he played very aggresive against me and I looked foward to the challenge every time, even though I'd be feeling it the next morning.

The part I HATED was when he was on MY TEAM! Remember when I said he would just occasionally shoot a 3? Well, on my team, he constantly jacked up a shot as if he thought he was Jamal Crawford and attempted to handle it like Tim Hardaway. And at other times, he would be doubled by smaller guys down low, and he would nonchalantly flip up a shot and completely miss, even though he was 3 feet from the basket. I swear, the guy just transformed from "I'm gonna try and kill Allanfan20" mode to "I'm gonna play like a crackwhore" mode. Drove me nuts.

I miss?

I miss being able to grab the rim with two hands off 2 steps.

I miss the excitement I got from getting the ball in a breakaway, knowing I was gonna get a chance to dunk it. Sometimes I would get off a one hander that would feel almost like an orgasm or I would totally get jammed on the rim. Either way, hearing the reaction was awesome.

One thing I absolutely love is going hard making a move to the basket then threading the needle on a pass that nobody saw coming, not even you until the last second.

I used to love that totally worn out feeling you got from playing ball non-stop from dusk till dawn, and still have the balls to say "run it back" like the insane mofo you are.

I hate having to cut your basketball time
Short cuz you a grown up now and got grown up **** to do like work and raise kids. I hate that.

I hate channing Frye. I love chipotle buritos.

When it comes to pickup games, I hate it when a guy thinks he is the **** and takes all the shots never passing the ball once he gets it. I can't stand it when a player passes up on a open shot and goes to the basket all the time. I always thought the game 21 was stupid, why play 21 when there are plenty of people on the court to get a pickup game going.

How many people played "utah" instead of 21? Its the same game except you count by 5s.

That's a Brooklyn thing young whipper snappers.

Love - games when you can't miss (think I had one of those around '72).

Hate - guys who keep dribbling and dribbling while you're hustling and cutting to the hoop. Then when you stop running and they can't get a shot off tell you should be moving without the ball.

I loved the game back in the day, when it was point game and I boxed MY MAN OUT , got the reb and went the distance pulled up.... and da jumper was Pureeeeeeeeeeeee and we won the belt game = when your team wins 3 pickup games in a row against different competition. And you and ya teammates strut around the court moving your hands around your stomach + waist area like you have on a championship belt. ahhhhhhh
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Love: Scored 72 pts on the Freshman team during a 48 minute non league game.

Coaches decided to play 12 minute periods.

While I did not start on that team I did get starters minutes and was the first wing/point off the bench for offense. I started that game as we had an injury and in the first minute had 3 baskets, two off steals and one fast break off a rebound.

Being the Sh!thead I was I then hit a fade away jumper from the corner, another from the top of the key, and then two foul shots. I had like 12 pts in the first 4 minutes. No a missed shot.

From there the next 12 came pretty easy as everything I put up went in.

After the first period we were up by 10 pts and it was easy to see we had no problem with this team. My team mates and coach decided to leave me in as long as I wanted to see how many pts I could put in. So I did have help.

It was the highlight of my career and I never grew past 5-9, so despite my talent I was slid down the depth chart thru the years. Girls, cars, and girls became a nice thing and I decided not to ride the pine. Played still but not for the school.

In collge I found my love for the game again and really worked on my body. That is perhaps the best ball I ever played and was offered a spot on a Div. III team. The coach, who has gone on to coach Div. I at a real big time program saw me beat the snot out of his 3rd string point a few times in and being my dorm director was able to get to know me. We talked lots about the game and my career. We connected very well and who knows maybe I could have become part of his coaching posse if I stayed around.

My injury ended all that, but I have no regrets. It was fun times. But not the highlight of my life!

Love the feeling of the jump shot more than anything else. When you have the right rhythm going nothing feels better, from the bending of the knees all the way to the swish.

Love the passing game. When you have been playing with the same 2-3 cats for a while and then some new guys come on the court for a game and you just annihilate them with your sweet passing game to each other. It feels like you're the Globetrotters against the Washington Generals.

Hate the big talkers who make excuses after misses, exhalt themselves after makes, and chatter when someone else does something with the ball that doesn't involve them.

Love playing good playground defense on someone too full of themselves. I know you're not supposed to really D up on the playground but F-that when prides at stake i want to humble the offensive player by smothering them. Making them wish i was guarding someone else.

Hate the people who drive their cars right next to the court and cry when a ball bounces into it. DUH!

Love the crossover dribble, except when i have to guard someone with a better handle than me!

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

For me its very simple. The Knicks such, hence I don't pay attention. They become good again, I'm back. I think its just as simple for most other non causal fans out there. Oh and by the way, it is several years of sucking that killed my interest. I stayed tuned for the first 3-4 years of misery, and now I just got tired of it.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

I have a love for the jumpshot as well. Houston had the perfect form. I must admitt that I learned to shoot from watching his mechanics. I always got by with my elbows out but by watching him I finally understood what my coaches were trying to tell me.

How bout that almost arrogant feeling you get when you get the ball in a spot that you know is your sweet spot. When that ball is swung your way you say to yourself "all freakin day!" and just nail it.

Yeah baby that beautiful rythmn. That ball is coming towards you. You are steping into it catching it and setting your feet at the same time. You bend your knees as your hands find the seems almost magically. As you begin to jump that ball is rising just above your eye level with that perfect form showing its evil head. at almost peak jump you begin to release at peak jump that ball is gone off the tips of your fingers.

Get back on D baby that's all freakin day!
