Say we have the opportunity of getting one very good player in the off-season. That player can be either a highly skilled passing point guard, a very good and consisten 3 point shooting swing man, or a very strong defender in the low post. Which would you choose? Assume that the player is average in all other aspects of his game and is 25 years old.

Well, if I had to pick, I couldn't just pick just one thing. A defensive guard or two would be a start. A shot blocker (I mean a 'real' blocker) would cause the offensive player to have to adjust and kicked it out, were our defensive guards could steal it. We just don't have a defensive team here.
I'll never trust this' team again.

Stars only win when they have a solid supporting cast. Lest we forget all the so called stars that haven't won JACK SQUAT due to having inferior teams around them. I voted for a 3 pt shooter cuz at the spot we'll be picking I think that's where the most value will be. I like Collins and I think he'll be a solid player for us. i'd rather give him a bigger shot next year and with another weapon to pass to. With Collins in there Steph was able to concentrate on Scoring, which he did quite well, even on bad wheels. I can only imagine how we'll look with all of our guys back plus another 3pt specialist.

YES we could use a defensive PF, but we'll have to see what is available rather than use the pick for that need. Many times guys fall thru the cracks and maybe we'll catch a break. I'm also curious to see how Morris plays. Will he be more physical than Frye? I'm not expecting him to be the answer to all our problems, but he may be a useful alternative.

Stars only win with a good supporting cast... not necessarily, but yes, I'll indulge this, fine. What do role players win without a star, though? So if we can agree you need BOTH stars and role players, can we also agree that it's easier to get role players than stars? If we agree with that, then we can concur that the entire team is built wrong, we need to start over and get a star FIRST.

You assume that none of the current players we have will become a Star in this league. I think there's still a chance for that to happen. I also think that the Pistons provide some hope for all teams that putting together a team full of really GOOD players who fit well is another formula for winning a title.

You do realize that there are more current Stars WITHOUT titles than there are with titles? Guys who are supposed to be franchise players. Would I prefer that we had a DWade, LeBron, Duncan or Shaq to go to war with? Of course. Right now any chance of that happening is likely 2 years or more away. For now we have to keep building this team as if we won't be getting someone like that. In that case the more realistic approach is closer to what the Pistons have done. Not to say we can imitate their team, cuz we can't, but to put together a VERY GOOD overall team, is more of what I mean.
