GO see a reputable advisor who can ask you the right questions based on your situation if you need an investment.

Buying any fund based on past performance and low fees is a recipe for disaster.

If you don't know what to do with your money you should not invest it. Internatinal funds, like any equity fund is volatile.

Regarding vanguard, I would not suggest you go with the low cost provider in the industry. While there a ton of bad funds to avoid, its more important to understand what your doing. Index funds can lose big money.

As a rule of thumb, don't try to emulate what the small part of the market segment does, but try to do emulate what wealthy people do. They usually don't hire the cheapest attorney or accountant, nor the cheapest money advisor.

Go ask the 5 wealthiest people you know and ask them how they do it.

You did say "Play" with 25k? That assumes you don't need this money? can afford to lose it? What does "play" mean you you?

25k is nowhere near a lot of money. People support families on that type of money a year, God bless them.

With 25k, I would say don't blow it on something like a car cuz that's just a bill. Don't use the money just to get more bills is what would be my motto. I wouldn't go "dipset" on it either.

If it were me I would pay off debt and probably go on a well deserved vacation. Bank the rest and move on with my life.

Of course looking into investing it some kinda way is benificial but peace of mind in the here and now would be my top priority.

Top three choices:

1. I'd start a business.

2. I'd set it aside as an education fund to pay for upgrades to my skill set.

3. I'd loan it all out in small increments on Prosper.com.

Want to give me $75k so I can do all three? I'd settle for just $25k though, since I could always use the profits from one of them to invest in the others.

Why would you invest it in some long term thing when you could flip it into more money NOW. You can always flip money NOW why wait 50 years? Fuck that.

nothing is wrong with real estate for sure. Now for myself, I would invest in real estate. I have done well doing so, I do that on the side since I am a corporate controller, that is how I make a living.

Real estate is pretty safe, but it all depends on your circumstances....

Ok, and what's your brilliant strategy for doing so? Any strategy is going to require a lot of work. If it was easy, everyone would do it.

I'd look for a inexpensive commercial space and open a clothing business if it was a good location. You can't do much with 25k these days.

Actually, I would have just enough to finish opening my restaurant.

That was the main piece to me. If he said he had $x00,000 to play around with, there'd be more serious ideas.

The miconception about real estate is that its quick (only in apprciating markets and its no work.

Researching the right property takes time. Fixing it up takes time.

Time is money.

Materials costs money.

Closing costs, loans and taxes cost money.

Real estate times time. Time is money.

Once they make tv shows out of it, its about cooked.

Why would people want to spend money to watch the Knicks? I paid for one game this season because I wanted to hang. I find this team boring and quite anticlimatic.

The best strategy would require NO work at all, only fun and good feelings. If everyone knew how easy it was everyone could do it.

If you wanted to turn 25k into a steady income to live off of how would you do it? How would you flip 25k if someone just gave it to you? Would you invest it in a stock or would you start a buisness of some sort or real estate? I just think its an interesting question because 25k is not a huge amount of money but it is enough to say "hey if i had that.. id:___"

Your thoughts
