All I know is that you don't HAVE to be disliked by your players in order to win. Just ask Tony Dungy and Lovey Smith. Isiah is tough enough with his guys from what i've seen. He doesn't have to try and belittle them in the press. As for the refs, Isiah is known to have a VERY good rep with them. He took a shot at them this year for a couple of situations, but overall he's got their respect. Isiah knows we need the refs, since we're one of the best teams in the league at drawing fouls. He's done a good job of dealing with them during the games.

during the bulls postgame press conference, a reporter asked skiles about the fouls on hinrich and if he was expecting more problems for him in miami. his response was that he didn't have problems with the officials or the calls (except for one that could've went either way) but he doesn't complain about the officials or blames them. and "i don't want my players thinking that way."

that's changing the culture.

isiah at some point not only blamed officials but the fans. and his players echo that sentiment.

i guess isiah is changing the culture here too...just a little differently i guess.

Phil Jackson and Pat Riley are the biggest winners/whinners this league has seen. It goes both ways...

BIG Difference. You have NEVER heard any players of either of those two coaches say anything about what the coaches whine about.

Jackson and Riles are MASTERS at manipulatng the referees. Their players know it and let them work. The difference between those two and Isiah? Jackson and Riley do it, their player's KNOW it's just gamesmanship. Isiah does it and his players fully buy into it as a valid excuse, and he lets them-as shown by players publically backing Isiah in the press. When have you ever heard a Jackson or Riley player get in on the act they do?

You can say the same thing about Jordan. Well we all know that Stephon Marbury, Steve Francis, and Eddy Curry all deserve the same type of latitiude as a 4 time champion and a 6 time champion.

Rings have nothing to do with the context of this argument, Joe. You asked what player under Phil or Riles get in on the act? I gave you one.

When in doubt, its always safe to bring rings to table when one is at a lost for answers/or a proper response.

OK. Point taken. So you still feel that Steph, Francis, and Curry deserve the same latitude as Jordan and Shaq?

It's not about the rings. Put KG and Nash in same sentence with Jordan and Shaq and everything feels right.
Put Steph, Eddy, or Steve and it feels like hater joke.
We can argue about how good or bad players on Knicks roster are but greatness is undeniable. This is gray team with some bright spots showing up here and there. But all in all it's more mud that gold

Wow, you're really comparing Isiah to Dungy and Smith? That's just mindboggling.

Do you think those guys have been so successful by not demanding accountability amongst their players? Do you ever hear those guys make excuses the way Isiah does? Do you think those guys would accept half assed effort from any of their players, much less his best players?

Dungy and Smith are both incredibly classy men, don't smear them by comparing them to that scumbag Isiah.

Why must you call Knicks players and coaches such ugly names? Isiah is actually TRYING to change the culture here in a positive way. You don't have to like it, but he was getting better results this year and for the most part his players played hard, never gave up, showed team spirit and support for each other all year long. He hasn't won yet, but that doesn't mean what he's trying to do as COACH which has only been for one season here, is the wrong way to do it. Dungy has been a coach for a LOT longer than Isiah and he's had his share of failures too. BUT I bet he was the same man when his teams lost as he is when they won it all.

If you look deeper at what Isiah has been doing since he took over as coach you'd see that he's making some positive changes on this team. We came into this year with no identity and zero respect. This team has self respect and an identity as a tough out in any game. The next step will be to win more consistently and I believe that we'll see that happen. Let's not forget that this team has a lot of developing players that we'll be depending on as we move forward. I think Isiah is a good coach for such a team with young players. He's had a good track record with young players and I believe that will continue here.

Nixluva what is your official relationship with ISAYUGH?

I know for a fact you're related to him I just don't know in which manner.

Are you a nephew, niece, or cousin?

Why does Shaq get equal footing with Jordan? Jordan has six rings. Whats the premise here? AI is one of the leagues biggest whinners, but he appeared in one final. Does he have more of a right to complain about officiating than Marb and Fran? How about Reggie Miller etc....we can go on and on.....Bottom line, I disagree with any player complaining about officiating to the press. The coach is the captain of the ship so he should be the one to address team issues, publicly or privately.

If the shoe fits...

Zero accountability is not changing things in a positive way. Inconistent effort and 33 wins aren't better results, it's basically the same crap since Don Chaney was coach. If you think they consistently gave a strong effort all season long then you're just a liar. Nobody can honestly say that they did.

The Knicks still don't have an identity. Throwing it down to Curry every time and watching him get confused by double teams is not an identity. What respect? They're still the laughingstock of the NBA.

The Knicks are a tough out in any game??? Are you freaking serious? Granted, any team can beat another on any given night but you're being ridiculous. Do you really think that good teams go into games against the Knicks thinking that they have to bring their "A" games that night to come out with a win?

Do you really believe some of the stuff that you write?

I am no convinced half the people on this site have just lost hope; thats the only explanation for believing in Isiah. Actually you have to be just plain ****ing dumb in order to do so.

An identity? We lost almost 20 games this season by 10pts, and got blown out on a consistent basis. We were not well coached, last in to's played no defense and didn't value the ball, let alone share it. Because we made some comebacks after unprofessional starts we have an identity.

Big Macs, Denver, Larry Brown, Injuries, Isiah Threatening Players, what was accomplished this season other than Eddy playing more minutes and taking more shots. We showed almost zero improvement outside of David Lee who needed minutes all along and was close to the same player that helped us win six in a row last year.......

When it comes down to it, we got blown out before thanksgiving, christmas and the allstar game, and lost the season series badly to boston, and philly. We would never have beat the hawks at full strength and the bobcats are a better team. So isiah has established a losing culture by reinforcing all his bull**** excuses for not winning. We have Eddy Curry who is useless when we could have cap room and young guys that care about basketball to build on.

I'll see you in camp with James and Curry out of shape, Crawford the same broke ass game he his been developing on 125th, nate the same me first self promoting style, frye without a semblance of a sack, and jefferies learning how to shoot a jump shot. You have to be stoked about the possiblity of Q healthy for 50 games, Francis pretending to care about winning while giving no effort on defense, and the legendary talk show do gooder shoe salesman marbury being praised for earning his 20 million, because he trie on the defensive end leading the knicks to a third straight season below 34 wins.

This season was about unity, stephon and his shoes that are going to net him 20million in profits, and isiah smiling and making excuses. This is the culture of the knicks, and its not going to change as long as isiah is living like its Big love married to Curry, Crawford and Marbury.

when paxson took over, he said the team was in some sort of disarray and it was top priority to make sure he brought in players that knew what it took to win and represent the team and fanbase proudly. he wasn't sure about skiles until after he spoke with cotton fitzimmons, who told paxson that skiles is no nonsense. he will bench anybody at anytime if they don't make an effort on defense. that sold paxson on skiles and he hired him. the coach doesn't make excuse for his players. neither does the gm. nobody criticized the previous regime, they just took the team and changed it's makeup and "culture."

that's what everyone was hoping from isiah. but what resulted is alot more flash, very little change in substance, and reason upon reason why things just didn't break right and they can't get over the 33 win hump.

the point of this thread was about changing the culture here.

isiah, after talking about this team having a "virus" when he took over, imho, HAS NOT changed the culture.

everyone is entitled to their view on the team and it's situation.

but when we project our young players to get better, we must also realize EVERY OTHER TEAM with young players project the same thing. that's why if this is the team we are going to war with next season, don't expect some quantum leap in terms of "progress." this team will peak somewhere in the .500 area.

I don't totally disagree, but I think that the final record is NOT exactly what this team is. We are already a team that can play near .500 and I expect that we'll move beyond that next year. Don't underestimate the impact that having this team come back pretty much with the same group will have in terms of chemistry. The more this team played together they seemed to be on a gradual increase in performance. This is clearly seen from the start of the year up until they lost the 3 guys to injury. They were progressively winning more of their games and I believe they would've had a very good showing in the last 2 months.

When we were healthy I think we were better than Orlando and about a tad behind NJ. If some of us want to now make it seem like that's not true then fine, but at the time when we lost those guys we were clearly playing better ball than Orl. We gave teams like Tor a run for their money too. So to me all this business about this team not being on par with the other teams in this Conf. isn't true.

what happens if lee sprains an ankle in december and is out for 3 weeks? or jamal stubs his toe? or steph's knee swells up? or eddy strains a hamstring? is the season over?

I said this exact same thing in the "Curry Line" thread. Some people just won't get it dj and it will be their shortcoming. Especially for those so closely related to individuals in the organization.

If that happens the season doesn't count and the following year is to be considered Year 1.

The Warriors had a ton of injuries and a major trade but made the playoffs.

The Nets had a ton of injuries and made the playoffs.

The Heat had a ton of injuries and made the playoffs.

The Wiz had a ton of injuries and made the playoffs.

The Knicks had some injuries, shut it down and made excuses as to why they only won 33 games.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

We are already a team that can play near .500 and I expect that we'll move beyond that next year.

Huh??? What are you basing this stuff on?

everyone is entitled to their view on the team and it's situation.

but when we project our young players to get better, we must also realize EVERY OTHER TEAM with young players project the same thing. that's why if this is the team we are going to war with next season, don't expect some quantum leap in terms of "progress." this team will peak somewhere in the .500 area.

They were progressively winning more of their games and I believe they would've had a very good showing in the last 2 months.

i guess the hope is that we catch lightning in a bottle. there's usually a team that does it every year, maybe next year it's our turn.
