C - Curry
PF - KG
SF - Balkman
SG - MLE (Stevenson or Pietrus)
PG - Marbury

would u really be upset at seeing a team like that? i wouldn't... would much rather trade Curry rather than D Lee in the KG trade if he's going to go that route though... actually, i'd much rather Isiah traded Marbury to MIN & built around the young guys on the team, but i don't think that's going to happen.

I love how people think this team can trade for K.G. or J.O. and give up nothing for them.

Here's how a trade would look for K.G.

Lee, Balkman, Frye, Francis 4 K.G. and Hassell or Mike James

uh, do you see Lee, Frye or Francis in that roster i posted? is it that farfetched to think we'd be able to keep Balkman & give up our 1st rounder instead? or maybe include Jamal as part of the package, or Mardy?

Nice, more starphucking.

Garnett is still an elite player but for how much longer? Giving up Lee, more draft picks and whatever else it would take to get KG wouldn't make the Knicks a championship team. They would be a 50 win, 2nd rd and out team with absolutely no future as we watch KG and Marbury decline but still wasting whatever assets they have left pretending that they can win it all.

I love KG but that would be the ultimate starphuck at this point. So basically you know you can expect Isiah to push for it. He's one stupid muthafocker.

Except for one thing. BOTH KG's and Steph's contracts expire the same year 2009 immediately striking massive amounts off our cap. So that's two years of old stars, letting the young guys learn, and then going after one of the primo free agents in 2009.

So they can starphuck some more in 09. What young guys? They're going in the KG deal. And in 2010 we finally pay off the last lottery pick owed for Marbury.

Look at the Miami Heat... if you add the right player, you can turn a mid-level playoff team into a true contender. Miami gave up a lot to get Shaq (basically, Caron Butler & Odom)... but it resulted in a championship.

The Knicks are arguably better at every position (except the one Garnett plays) compared to the Wolves. So... by that logic, Garnett's addition to the Knicks could help catapult us to the next level.

I'd love to have him. Agewise, it's a far cry from when the Lakers signed Karl Malone and he struggled. He was already 40. (he still had a 20ppg age 39!)

Garnett still has a lot of miles left at 30, even taking into account his early start to his career. He just needs some other players to share the wealth.

The Heat were able to do that trade for one Mitch Kupchak is one of the dumbest GM's around and 2 they had Brian Grant's expiring contract. If I'm not mistaken they gave up a draft pick in the process. SO let's break down that trade
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1839693

The Lakers and Heat finalized a trade last week that sent Shaquille O'Neal to Miami, with Los Angeles getting Caron Butler, Lamar Odom, Brian Grant and a first-round draft pick in return.

Caron(young stud)
Odom(young stud)
Grant(huge expiring) and
First round draft pick

No one wants Steve Francis at all. He isn't an expiring contract. We were really the only team that wanted him last yr along with Denver. There is no way Steve gets this team a higher return than what the Knicks gave up to get him. His value has decreased and teams know they can wait him out for a buyout. That has already been leaked, his market value is set. If we trade for K.G. we're going to pay heavily for it. Besides Chicago's offer will be greater than ours anyway.

Yes it's farfetched to think Balkman would stay and quite possibly draft pick not given up in the process. I used Francis just because, but honestly I'm quite positive Minnesota wouldn't want him. There's no reason to gut this roster and future for K.G. while giving up cap flexibility.

Yeah because the pieces don't fit and aren't complementary. Curry would just be taking up space.

Curry's the only mismatching part... the other pieces can play well in an uptempo style or a slow it down pick & roll system... if Curry loses some weight in the offseason & develops some semblence of a jumpshot (haha) then he wouldn't be as much of a clog in the middle... & if he is, then he still will have trade value that you could get someone for him in a trade if they should decide to do it... if Isiah's going to keep Marbury here, then he needs to make a move to get a superstar to play with him... otherwise, get him the hell outta here.

Why wouldn't Curry fit with this team? He'd be the only low post threat on the roster. While KG can score in the paint, he's more of a face up shooter who will open up the lane for Curry. Curry will also benefit from KG's great BB instincts and passing abilities. Not to mention Kg will more than make up for Currys rebounding weakness.

That's all it was, just talk. No real offers. The Nugz and Knicks were the only teams that had offers out there. Did anyone try and trade for Steve this trade deadline? He proved he was a malcontent this yr, there's rumors out there he has a alcohol problem, his knee may not quite be 100%, grossly overpaid, and is currently injured not being able to get floor time to possibly increase the little to no value he has.

I agree with your first sentence wholeheartedly but know this if Minny trades him they won't take back a lot of garbage, they'll be in rebuild mode. The only way they take back garbage is to give away some of theirs and no thanks to Hudson, Jaric, Blount, etc etc. I also think it will be a 3rd team involved if he gets traded.

I wouldn't call giving up Lee, frye and their 1st round picks garbage. I mean really what has he done. We all kill Marbury for not winning a thing but KG was right along with him for a number of years. His best years came with Spree and Sam. And because they are not there anymore he can't get back into the playoffs. And he is a big man, not a scoring pg. Lets call it like it is. He is as much an underachiever as Marbury. So now we give the T-Wolves Cap flexibility which everyone on this forum just creams about for another underachiever and that makes sense somehow.

not necessarily true. jamal + eddy + quentin + jerome + jeffries + MLE signings we'll have to make to try to win with KG + any more expiring year deals and the chances of us getting under the cap before 2011 are slim (but it's slim now also). but 2009? no way jose.

Well, i would assume some of that money is going in the KG deal - you can't just trade young players. Maybe Lee, Frye, Jamal, pick and Francis for KG + bad contract. Steph and KG coming off = about 45 million in one year. No one's going to be a free agent that year anyway, so suck for a year, get a good pick and then pick-up James in 2010 or Wade in 2011. Anyway, the point is, it's possible, although i admit, highly unlikely.

But, I would trade for KG. He doesn't depend on athleticism anymore and has a passion for the game that'll keep him playing for at least 5 more years. He's hardly ever injured and doesn't seem the type to complain about minutes, touches, etc. Shaq has showed us a big man can play long into their 30s. and he doesn't even take great care of himself.

we need to make a decision to commit 1 way or the other this offseason... either get Marbury outta here or bring in the player he needs to play with in order to succeed... we're just spinning our wheels in mud right now & it's not getting us anywhere.

If we go the Marbury route that's yr 5 of trying to find something that works with him while avg 32wins/season. Wouldn't it have been easier to let the bottom fall out over those 4-5yrs and play the lottery? Marbury's knee and back a liable to go at any moment and he hasn't shown the past 2yrs to be the best disciplined conditioning off-season athlete.

Kevin Garnett's almost 31. He still has good years ahead, but for us the future isn't now. Trading away young players and picks for a run that comes up short is never satisfying.

This thing sucks anyway. KG will be intriguing...
I think he will make Eddy cry in the toilet after kicking his fat a...ss for not playing defense.
Craf and Fry will just stay hiding in the dark corners.
And we will finally have somebody to come up after loss and say that we lost because we just suck...

I LIKE KG!!!

u already know what my preference is... but Isiah's never going to trade Marbury, it's clear... so if that's the case, go the other route & go for broke... we have nothing to lose because the current "plan" of rebuilding is not going to bring us close to a championship in the next 4-5 years either IMO.

Yeah that's because no one ever sees an Oden or Durant coming but in 2-3yrs you best believe there will be. We have to end this instant small gratification mentality. Just rebuild and be patient.

Not to mention this mentality is why we're at where we are today.

How can you do that when the owner says he doesn't want to do that. Three GMs in their tenture have said the same thing about rebuilding.
1) Checketts - "Not under my watch."
2) Layden - "You cannot rebuild in NY."
3) Thomas - "We can't rebuild but we have to be creative in acquiring pieces."

Both Checketts and Layden now admit that it was Dolan who instructed them that rebuilding was not an option. Dolan rather acquire crap then outright rebuild by acquiring lottery picks. Layden said that is what led him to make the McDyess trade. At Thomas introduction press conference, Thomas referred to rebuilding and was corrected by Dolan. That's why getting rid of Thomas doesn't matter much to me because the next guy will have the same issue. I am pretty sure that Dolan has already told Thomas go get me KG like he told him to go get Brown.
