It's not a contract year.

That said, I don't think the difference is huge. It's a little visible but not a lot. I don't think Curry has ever, including his contract year, been in top shape.
This is how a player with a similar build looks in top NBA shape:

It's a good thing that you didn't show the Shaq from the 2002 and 2003 and now with the Heat. The guy that HOF Phil Jackson said put on about 40 pounds after the 2001 season.

Shaq has good enough instincts that he can be great even out of shape (although I still would be disappointed in him for being out of shape); Eddy doesn't. Also, plenty of players' conditioning is worse when they're 30 and they've already accomplished A LOT like Shaq and want to take it a little easier. Eddy's 24, which should be his physical prime and should feel as though he has a lot to prove.

If Curry can lose at least 10 lbs, i'd take that. I really don't expect him to ever get back down to what he was when he had his last season in Chi. The diet pill influenced Curry was a mirage. I don't know what he eats, but i'd bet it's not healthy stuff. There's only so much that exercise can do, if you're taking in too many calories. I would guess that he's eating some pretty high calorie foods. Lot's of meat and fats. I doubt he's a runner either. He's just fit enough to jog back and forth on the court and I don't know if he's ever going to push himself any further than that. I would guess that for how he plays it's not necessary in his mind. He probably thinks that he's in great shape, since he can score on guys and dunk alleyoops. I doubt that he realizes how much more he could do if he was in better shape and able to cover more ground more quickly.

I hope and pray that they can get thru to him just how much better he can be if he sets his mind to it. The problem is that some people are self driven that way and it's hard to infuse that kind of drive in someone if they don't already possess it.

Kind of like teaching/not teaching a team to play with effort and energy every night. That comes from within also doesn't it?

In many ways it does, but you can motivate a TEAM to exert themselves more and it may have an effect on a few guys and that may be just enough to make the entire team play a bit harder. However when it comes to an individual all by himself with a plate of Collard Greens, Mac and Cheese, Corn Bread with Butter, Barbecue RIbs and Chicken and Sweet Potato Pie, that guy doesn't have the support group there to spur him on. That's more of what i'm speaking of.

Are you trying pass Curry off as some victim? Here's what we know from history, great players (as a rule in human behavior in general), who are disciplined are successful. So if we traded a lot of the future for a player who potentially may never be disciplined, mainly from a supposed eating disorder what does that say?

I've coached teams that have 3 motivated guys and 8 unmotivated guys. Generally what happens is that the three motivated guys come to you late in the season and ask you if they can finish off playing the year 3 on 5. They feel they have a better chance of winning that way.

You can always get gusy to step it up a notch for a few games but guys always fall back on their habits. IF they are lazy players they will eventually return to that after a few games. In the end the best way to avoid that is do what teams like the Spurs do. Get aggressive self-motivated players. Then everyone that joins that team has to hop on board or they are jettisoned. We so far are still okay with guys giving effort "for the most part". Until we raise our standards we will always be begging coaches to create miracles with lazy players.
I just hope that people will like me

The fate of the organization is in the hands of a chubby undermotivated child that doesn't love the game of basketball and our success depends on him eating the right foods. Masterful Isiah

How did you get that from what I wrote? I wasn't making Curry out to be a victim, I was being critical of his level of self control and desire to be better. His will power when there's no one else around to tell him to eat right. I was comparing this with the difference in being able to coach a group to perform at a higher level of effort as opposed to when a man is alone with his demons and making a choice to EAT himself out of greatness or to remain disciplined and become all that he can be. I'm not sure that Curry can do that. I know that he was able to lose a ton of weight once, but I think he used Diet pills to do it. I doubt that he has the will power to do it on his own. I HOPE that he does, but from what we've seen it's more likely that he doesn't have that kind of will power. We'll see.

He already thinks he's one of the best players in the league and an all star so he's pretty much done trying to improve himself.

This is what happens when there's no accountability.

YES. Exactly.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.
