I just want to see where the forum is now. To get Eddy and the Bulls' pick (23rd right now) and Antonio Davis, we gave up the 2nd pick in the 2006 draft, another likely lottery pick, 2 early 2nd round picks, and 2 expiring contracts. From the Knicks' perspective, the trade was

Good
Bad
A Disaster

It looks like a slight majority for the Bad/Awful over the Good/Great group although it's pretty close. It's closer than I expected. I guess a lot of people don't have the sophisticated logic skills I have.

I think we have a tendency to ignore certain truths. This team is a work in progress and not only with regard to Curry, but in many positions. We have 3, 2nd yr players and 2 rookies that have a lot to learn. We came into this year with no real base for these guys to build off of. So the potential for success in this season was somewhat diminished. We just added one more rook and we'll add another in this draft. That's a good % of the roster that has very little experience and a lot to learn still. This on top of the fact that many of these guys weren't complete players to begin with.

Now we have seen some progress from a few of these young players and that's a good thing. Curry, Lee, Balkman and Collins have all made progress. Frye and Nate seem to have had less progressive seasons, but I believe they're still productive and could make that final transition to where they need to get. We seem to have so little patience around here and tho I understand to some degree, it's a bit silly, given the way the team is headed with more youth.

We'll have to see who Chicago actually get's in the draft and how they play to really make a good comparison. What kind of player do you see Chi needing? What spot will they eventually end up with? Who is likely to be available when they pick? There's a lot left up in the air right now. It's all about the perception that they have a great chance to get someone special, but until it actually happens it's just hype.

Oh man, we have got to find a search feature for some of this guys posts from over the summer.

I've already busted him on 1 thread today by going back to previous threads.

Hey it's a bit early to evaluate this. Let's wait 2 more weeks and then we can evaluate it then.

If it took Curry 6 years to get to a point where he can score and do nothing else I think It's fair to give all the draft picks similar time. Balkman could turn into a good player. TT could turn into one. These next two picks could be flops. Why are we evaluating it now? In my view we gave up far too much to get him but I don't think it's a horrible trade. Just not one you do for a guy that is not your emotional and physical leader.

Sarcasm?

Allan: I just think it's way to early to evaluate this trade. Next year when TT scores 20 in the first week someone will post this poll. Then a week later when Curry scores 30 it will come up again. That's all I'm saying. It's like comparing Balkman to Williams, we just don't know yet.

But I do have opinions on what I would have done, right or wrong. I would never go for a guy that isn't a superstar and give up two potential lottery picks. To me that doesn't make sense. Even if Curry puts up 20 a game there are other ways to build. Doesn't make the trade horrible just that there were more efficient ways to go IMO. Same for Balkman trade. I would never pass on a PG when I just traded for a young Center. A postup player needs a PG. Obviously the more young PG's you draft or audition the better chance you have of finding the perfect one. Doesn't mean that I think Balkman was a horrible pick just that I would have gone in a different direction regardless of how the two players turn out.

Bip, I am pretty much on the same page with you, except I've pretty much had the same point of view even before the trade. I didn't think going after Curry was a safe deal even that Summer because I knew about his work ethic flaws, and how he had an inflated ego and was frequently lazy, even on both ends. I just can't trust a player like that to be built around. Even if he has less talent, I think we would have been better off just drafting Bynum and passing up on Frye b/c as it is, it's not working out, and I like Frye and think he'll be a much better player than he's shown, but not next to Curry. It's a shame for the organization, Curry AND Frye.

I called him out saying the team "should win 45 possibly even 46gms if everything goes right", you're right he won't touch this. He's cut from the same cloth earl is. Actually when I tried to bring this to his attention last night he responded as if he thought to himself "how dumb was I to say such a thing".

just remember one thing about this deal. If the Knicks don't trade for Curry and make no other deal they are likely to win less games this season. No Curry means no low post threat at all which means less wins. So, they would have less wins this season which would mean a very good shot at the #1 pick. So they would have better cap space and a sure fire shot at a HOF center in Oden or the swingman Durant. Makes you think...<p>

We might have paid a high price, but that alone doesn't make it a bad trade.

Is Curry even an asset to this team being a contender in the long term? How can he be when he can't risk trying on defense due to foul issues? As good as his ONE SKILL is, his other deficiencies cancel out the positives. I would even venture as far as to say that even if something like Channing Frye (who I dislike) was our full-time center and Curry wasn't on the team, our record would be the same. Curry just doesn't add enough positives to cancel out the glaring negatives. And to compliment Curry, we have to consider trading Lee, who is our most promising young player, when maybe the real issue is getting a different center. All of Eddy's issues are not new developments. We knew what we were getting when we traded for him.. we just thought we could change a lazy player into a hardworking one. We were wrong.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Curry dislocated two fingers in the first half, can we say warrior?...Curry is still better than any combo you could put together from that trade...But I still think it's early to get a true evaluation...We still have to see how Tyrus Thomas and the next pick turns out...

Brandon Roy and Roy Hibbert
Brandon Roy and Jeff Green
Lamarcus Aldridge and Green
LaMarcus and Brewer

Brandon Roy has nothing to do with the debate. What are the chances that Isiah take Roy regardless of what pick it was? We needed a SF, and had we had the number 2 pick, there is no doubt in my mind Tyrus would have been our pick.
Hindsight is an annoying little ****er huh?

Ty isn't projected as a SF though. Roy was projected as capable of playing 3 positions. Morrison and Gay were also there. Here's the kicker. Speaking of Ty, we had Lee and Frye. Ty is more of a natural PF ala Stro Swift. I really don't think that he is as surefire a pick as we believe.

But then again, the old guy loved him and we all know how Isiah ditched the other guys philosophy of defense when drafting Balkman and Mardy COllins and signing Jarred Jefferies....

What do you mean?

If Eddy is the piece that the knick organization builds around for the future, and if that delivers a contender someday in the near future, then the first rounder, the swap, and the second rounders will be footnotes in the history of the franchise.

I make no claim to knowing what this trade ends up being, and i don't solely peg it on what those picks turn out to be. I think there are too many variables involved with the draft, how players develop in different environments, etc. Curry, for all his obvious warts, has proven that he can draw double team attention. That is an asset not every team can boast having. We didn't have a post player who can command a double before. We had Jerome James and Channing Frye and Kurt Thomas and Dolean.... nice players but mostly jumpshooters. We paid a lot to be able to boast an offense that can collapse the defense... the shame and irony of it all is we don't have enough shooters to surround EC.

This trade will be evaluated depending on how the lottery picks the Bulls get out of it develop and how Curry continues to develop. So far edge to us. But long term, Bulls have good chances to really come out on top. Too early to tell, give it a couple of years.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Fair enough. The only part I disagree with is that I'd say being able to draw a double team is an asset *only* if the player can effectively pass out of the double team.

They are not going to be footnotes, eddy doesn't impact the game enough to warrant to high lottery selection and two second round picks. He doesn't deliever wins and isn't a competitor.

And Ty Thomas is going to average a double double for his career. Frankly of you plugged the kid in at center for the next 10 years he puts up 14pts 10rbs 3blks in his sleep. Add another lottery pick in there and tell me 20pts 7rbs 0.8blks is worth it

I predict that two or three of the players we gave Chicago will turn out better than Eddy.

You guys are not quite getting how this works. It doesn't matter if they produce better numbers overall. It's HOW they get those numbers and how that impacts the teams that we play. In Curry's case, He was able to get the other teams top Center out of the game in a few of the last games we've played and that gave us a chance to win. You are overlooking that impact cuz it isn't sexy enough for you. Still it's a HUGE advantage and we get that on MANY nights during the season. Howard had to sit, BIg Z and Chandler. We didn't have the other weapons available to make that work fully in our favor, but as a team one day we WILL have more weapons to make teams pay. So you have to look at things from a different perspective sometimes.
