Elite - you deserve props for your fierce determination last night.

The 6'6 Mardy Collins is showing signs that he can become a very good NBA player in a system that emphasizes defense. The intense instruction under the manaical John Chaney pays dividends in meaningful NBA minutes.

Fearless Prediction for 2008 NYK Yoots Shift Line

Lead Guard - Gabe Pruitt, 6'4, USC

Off the ball Guard - Mardy Collins, 6'6

Forward - Renaldo Balkman, 6'7

Forward - David Lee, 6'9

Center - Eddy Curry/ Randolph Morris, both 6'11

Let my people run

once a knick always a knick

Can anyone say "Overreact?"

Last night was a great great game for Balkman & Collins. I hope they keep this up.

Whoo boy, I really overreacted when I said that! What was I thinking?

As they are, Balkman and Collins are already good roleplayers. If either of them develops a respectable outside shot, he will be a starting claiber player. If either develops a good outside shot, he will be a great asset as a starter.

man I was saying how Collins should get more PT to show us what his limits are defensively, and everyone was telling me about "no he is NBADL talent"...

he just needs to learn to make a damn jumpshot. and work on taking his man off the dribble. maybe even working on some sort of post up move because he's got size over a lot of PGs.

I actually think Collins does a pretty good job of taking his man off the dribble, and seems like he could go to the basket more if he wants. Last night I saw him do it several times. He's quicker than I think I've seen him get credit for. He was creating space for himself with crossovers last night, but he was clearly looking to pass first, rather than go to the rack. This may be part of his own style and comfort level, but also what Isiah wants. However, I liked the few times that he did go to the basket when it made sense.

he has a nasty crossover too.

the improvement of collins and balkman definitely has been a bright spot of the 2nd half of this season. knicks have to continue to add though, the young pieces are in place, they just need to not take any more steps back (jared jeffries, jerome james, etc).

if isiah can find a pure 2 in the draft (bellineli, morris almond, corey brewer), then the knicks can play a lineup looking like collins (6'6"), any of those 2's (>6'5"), balkman (6'7"), lee (6'9"), and any of our bigs (curry, frye though hopefully he's traded, morris, etc).

that is a big, athletic team and progressing in the right direction in terms of size, athleticism, and defensive mindedness.

Collins is starting to look like what many, including myself, predicted he would be, which is a taller version of Aaron McKie with better PG skills. That outside shot looks much better than at the beginning of the season, and this kid clearly has the best understanding among our guards of how to feed the post. If he can make a significant improvement in his overall game this summer, he might turn himself into starter material. As it stands, he is going to be a solid backup for us at both guard positions.

I like him out there with Marbury at the same time, it gives us much better balance in our backcourt on both ends of the floor. Marbury plays off the ball and is our main perimeter scorer, and Mardy is far less a defensive reliability than having Crawford or Nate out there with Marbury
^precocious neophyte.
