If his back can heal and he can come back at about 90-95% of his normal self, he should be a good player for us off the bench.

Guys- its hard to cry about Q and his contract when we've got Francis & Marbury making max dollars.

If Q never plays again- he ain't the one killing out cap. Francis is. Marbury is.

It's Official: Quentin's Done for the Season
Posted by Frank Isola on March 30, 2007 12:54 PM

Quentin Richardson's season is officially over after the veteran guard underwent back surgery yesterday in Miami.

The Knicks claim that Richardson should be ready well before training camp in October and do not believe that the injury is career threatening. As of today, Richardson has missed 55 games since joining the Knicks two years ago including 30 because of chronic back pain.

Isiah Thomas even suggested that the Knicks were well aware that Richardson would eventually need surgery. Because of Richardson's history of back problems the Knicks could not get his contract insured.

The Knicks said that Richardson had microdiskectomy surgery which, according to medical journals, is the “minimally invasive surgical removal of disk fragments from a herniated disk, usually in the lower back (lumbar area).”

For weeks, the Knicks provided few updates on Richardson’s condition. The Daily News, Newsday and Star Ledger all reported yesterday that Richardson was done for the season.

However, the Knicks claim that they weren’t aware of Richardson’s status until yesterday when he flew to Miami for a second opinion. If you believe that then you also believe in the Easter Bunny and that Lenny Wilkens wasn’t fired.

A high-ranking Knicks official confirmed that the team knew on Wednesday that Richardson’s season was over. The story was then leaked to the New York Times for today’s editions. So if you believe the Knicks, four local newspapers knew of Richardson’s status before they did.

What is interesting about the Knicks handling of Richardson’s injury is that just two days earlier, Thomas scolded reporters to “tell the whole story” about why the Knicks had been 1-6 since Thomas received a contract extension. Thomas wanted the reporters to include injuries as a major factor. Fair enough.

And yet the Knicks organization is in the business of never telling the whole story. Never have, never will.
