you're so gangsta...

Hey DJ, you're a programmer right? Do you build computers or are you into hardware at all?

oohah

yeah, i'm a programmer. not that big into the hardware side of it. what's up, are you trying to build one? if you give me some specs, then i can ask around and give you some advice.

I'm not looking for advice, I'm building a new rig that I am almost done with and I want to brag about it:

•Intel Core Duo E6600

•MSI P6N SLI Platinum MOBO
•SAPPHIRE 100189L Radeon X1900GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 VIVO HDCP Video Card - Retail
•2 X Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
•NEC 18X DVD±R DVD Burner With 12X DVD-RAM Write Silver E-IDE / ATAPI Model 7170A-0S
•LIAN LI PC-7A plus II Silver Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail
•ENERMAX Aurora Silver USB Mini Keyboard - Retail
• Windows XP Pro Service pack 2, gonna be vista professional in a minute
•Stoopid fans and rounded cables. Best thermal grease out... Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound

nice setup. i made the switch from desktop to laptop a little over a year ago with a wireless network and a 150GB wireless network harddrive.

i'm more of a gadgets guy. my favorite toy right now is my slingbox.

Actually it's 1000GB (2 X 500/lonely) And that is just to start, I'm thinking about building a server or something along those lines...

I'm starting a new streaming you-tube cult video called "guy sitting at computer with basketball on TV behind him." It's a sure hit!

I need to get a laptop, but I had to address my power needs, my old dualie was starting to feel slow. Speaking of, a preacher friend of mine(Seriously) needs to buy a laptop around $800-$1200. He asked me to do some research for him. any recommendation on that?

The Slingbox looks sweet! Does it work as well as advertised? I want one, but I have to spend on my professional needs first. However, I am thinking that the slingbox might help me get video into my computer. Hmmmm...

Thanks! I feel like I have a newborn baby! Except baby better make me money!

I'm thinking about not even installing XP Pro on this machine and just skipping straight to vista, but I am worried about kinks. What's your feeling?

IS it possible to "Stack" the drives so you have an expendable storage solution?

Ah sorry I left that out... 32bit Ultimate.
My rig:
AMD Athlon XP 2200+ (1.8ghz)
768ram
ATI Radeon 9800Pro

My rig is pretty ancient... I just graduated college and have been waiting until I get a job, so I got some money to waste and I can build a new one. Can't wait, just need that job I had a very well paying Systems Analyst job lined up, but the company wanted me to move to Oregon, I wasn't about to do that lol.

Either way, I definitely recommend putting on Vista, you'll really like it, my systems has run smoothly since I installed it about 3 weeks ago. Not one problem.
