I agree with Isola.

Isiah deserves an extension (one year), but the timing is stupid, which is typical for Dolan. I suppose he can do nothing to get his father to take his car keys away.

>>Isiah's built up a little bit of ill will throughout the league w/the other GM's & coaches & his negative past history will always cloud judgements from the media & fans

TMS - When did this become a popularity contest? I love it when people boo the Knicks on the road. It means they are relevant, and dangerous. Whatever "ill will" Isiah has among the suits around the league, is counterbalanced by his membership in the elite player fraternity which gains respect among the ones who count most...

The college and pro players who consider New York as a place to play.

The media and fans don't know squat. Well, maybe except for djsu... their bias and personal agendas is based around selling newspapers and most of our perceptions are based on those slants from those who intend to sell us media.

Jerry Colangelo? Gimme a break. Why?

i'm surprised you even have to ask me that... he put together a pretty damn good team in Phoenix if you hadn't noticed... last time i checked they had a much better overall record than the Knicks have had under Isiah's watch.

as for this being a popularity contest, being a GM you have to deal w/people... the players can love you all they want, but when it comes to making trades & acquisitions, you have to deal w/the other NBA execs, & it doesn't help if they don't like you or lack respect for you as a fellow executive... if Isiah plans on making trades w/Joe Dumars the rest of his time here, then that's fine, but he has 28 other GM's he has to deal with to get us the talent we need to win a championship, & IMO having a guy who has more credibility throughout the league would be the better bet to getting us where we want to go.

Of course the timing is stupid, another great move by this *******, this team for some reason takes a lot of nights off and i think they have been playing for their coach, and it would be better if they were coaching and playing for their lives till the end.......

Can we get a ****ing gm in here, dolan has pretty much guarenteed we are ****ed for the rest of time.......let him coach, just don't trust any player personal decisions

TMS - I respectfully disagree that Isiah is only limited to dealing with Dumars.

This is business. The popularity thing is out the window for ALL executives who are dealing in commodities first and foremost.

It ain't personal.

Or do you REALLY believe a pro executive turns down a favorable deal because he doesn't like what someone said nearly a decade ago?

C'mon.

The GMs of Phoenix, Toronto, and Orlando must love Isiah. He gave them major cap room.

Rich - were you really so concerned with "cap room" when Francis hit that shot?

playa - why would the Knicks relax when they have Dallas twice

Toronto twice

and Cleveland (with Lebron) twice...all within the space of two weeks?

Was Isiah Thomas relaxed as a player... or a nasty, rip your eyes out type of cat?

Do you watch this team? Why would they relax?????

Everytime this team has gotten something good they relax, seriously almost EVERY time. Not only game to game but quarter to quarter.

I like them better with their backs against the wall

Wow I hate this move. I know I know I'm a hater. If the Knicks were inclined to grant an extension at least wait until the Knicks season is complete. Take the case of the Detroit Pistons: Rick Carisle was fired after having won 50 games but because the Pistons were swept in the Conference Finals the owner found that reason enough to fire him. Than ask yourself why the Pistons are continuously in the hunt for NBA Championships while teams like the Knicks are barely flirting with a playoff berth.

Are you serious?

One game cannot override several seasons.

Nah, you can't be serious.

Suicide watch? Hardly. I think this is great news on multiple fronts.

First, it shows what a liar Dolan is and what a farce the whole, "Isiah has 1 year to show evident progress" was. The team is 5 games under .500 with a brutal schedule to finish the season. They could easily finish the year 10-15 games under .500. Especially now that they know they don't have to play to keep Isiah. Didn't Dolan come out in midseason to remind everyone that it was going to take the entire season to decide? Well I guess that was nothing but more BS.

Secondly, Isiah still has to do both jobs. I was afraid that Isiah would be able to sneak back to the front office and hire another scapegoat coach. But it appears that his head is still thoroughly on the chopping block when this team shows no signs of progress next season. There won't be anymore comparing them to the absolute lowest of standards. At that point we'll be approaching year 5 of Isiah and still wondering why they can't top 40 wins.

Again, this is no surprise that Isiah is getting an extension, I've been saying it for months now. The timing of it is though, since Dolan has been insisting on waiting until the end of the season. But like I said, that's just proof this whole thing was a sham from the start.

misterearl, still waiting for you to explain why you think taking Houston's contract off the Knicks cap "might help".

Hypocrite.

Rich - you didn't answer the question.

Override several seasons?

How about "overriding" over a decade, except for the "magic in a bottle abbreviated, strike-shortened" season?

What favorable deal could the Knicks have to offer? Other than David Lee all the players on the team that remotely contribute have brutal contracts. Sure you could make a small deal here or there for maybe Balkman but the rest we almost next to nothing of value to offer anyone. Unless a GM is looking for a guranteed firing.

Isiah is just a terrible GM

You look at flexibility and the ability to make moves and you look at our roster and you have players you can move, and its half the roster......

Q, Marbury, Francis, Rose, James, Jefferies

That is very scary, and whats to say he doesn't make another terrible move and kill the cap further, we have to appease eddy by keeping jamal, who has contributed to the demise more than any player in uniform. I love we are backing into the playoffs and its very exciting even if everyone above us is collapsing. It goes to show you how dumb dolan really is that he has geniue excitement and thinks possibly finishing at 500 with a 130 million warrants an extension....
