I'd have to say that this list is pretty much correct. Ewing beating out guys like Lambier and Parrish is pretty good.

When I started reading it, I thought for sure that my favorite center of all time would be Kareem.
I'll never trust this' team again.

WOW, you can kinda tell these guys were sorry centers just by trying to pronounce their names !!!

Actually, the more technical the name, then the greater the player. I wonder who the top ten SG, PG, SF and PF are? I wonder who the greatest bench player was (Lee for sure).
I'll never trust this' team again.

I would pay to see Yinka Dare go one on one with Greg Kite, with special guest referee Uwe Blab.

How could we forget about Chris Dudley? Talk about having no hope. He was just simply sorry, good night!

He played solid defense. Terrible on offense, though. We had Travis Knight, though, so I can't complain about Dudley, when we've had worse.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Not quite as bad as you are making him out to be... He was a great defensive player for us.

Agreed. The irony is that I'd rather have Chris Dudley than Jerome James right now.

Kareem over Wilt is ridiculous.

The only thing Kareem had on Wilt was longevity.

That's like saying Eddie Murray (the ultimate compiler) was a better player than Lou Gehrig because Murray had more homeruns and hits.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

Hey, Wilt was great as a big man, who played against a lot of men who did not have the competition that the NBA has had in the last 20 to 30 years. Kareem played against the best of the best in his best years and his sky hook was totally unstoppable! I don't know if you ever saw him play, but believe me, it was unstoppable. Perhaps the most phenominal shot ever. I don't say that as wishful thinking, but as a fact. When Wilt played against Boston's Russel, Rus gave him a run for his money, so we know Wilt would not have been as great, if he had any real competition. And don't give me that Bob Cousy stuff either. And yes, longevity also adds to and means you are the best and comparing Murray to Gehrig is a joke as well as an insult to me as a Yankee fan. Good luck to you sir!

I don't think longevity is what put Kareem over Wilt in this poll. Bill Walton's peak had almost no longevity at all but he still placed well on the list. Probably what put Kareem over Wilt in this poll was their respective title counts, though that reasoning is flawed for other reasons.

No, I'm afraid not. It was his personal accomplishments. I mean he is' afterall the all-time NBA scorer. Not even little baldy locks jordan came close to his personal accomplishments as a scorer. Obviously you never got the chance to see him play, but I will tell you that it was a real treat. Even Bill Walton, as you mentioned, admitted that the one thing he could not do was to figure out how to stop that sky hook. I saw him knock that thing down in clutch so many times, it was not funny at all if you hated L.A. Lakers. That was a total compliment from Walton, but I still don't care for Bill's big mouth even to this day.
I'll never trust this' team again.

Obviously I never got to see him play? Where you getting that from?

Kareem got the nod over Wilt because of statistical accomplishments? Right, because Wilt didn't have a lot of those... like a 50 point season, or 100 point game, or a 50 rebound game, or a season where he led the league in assists.

Anyway, this point is pretty moot if you look at the selection process. ESPN had 20 people rank their top 10 centers of all time, with 1st place rankings getting 10 points, 2nd place getting 9 points, etc. Different voters had different ideas of the top 3 of course, so there is not necessarily a single systematic reason why the cumulative totals wound up favoring one guy over another. If you tally up the votes for all 20 voters, Kareem only beat Wilt by one vote (174 to 173).
