Not to be a geek, but any site that shows median age? That might be a better indicator, since any team with a 40 year old player gets nailed and any team with a 19 year old player gets a boost in the age category. Just a thought.

Likewise- better would be to look at either starters- or guys who average most minutes on the squad.

Why do I get the feeling Isiah's next 4 year plan will be to get older and less athletic?

If Francis is ok to play, why did he talk about shutting it down for the season just a few days ago? You think he feels like he owes the Knicks his health and well being? You think he thinks that if the Knicks make the playoffs he has a shot at a ring?

.
.
.

In regard to the sentences I made red: I don't know if he thinks those things, but they are extreme conclusions to draw.

I posted those statements because those were the conclusions you drew.

Francis tries to come back from injury against advice, better judgement, etc....and people are killing him for it.

Relly? I drew the conclusion that Francis thinks the team has a chance at a ring if they make the playoffs? I made the conclusion that Francis thinks he owes the Knicks his health and well-being?

I thought I drew the conclusion that he was going to give the team whatever he can contribute because of the current circumstance. That's being a trooper, that is all I am saying, everything else was added by you.

^^^ i think the best way to measure age if you have a little extra time is to weight each player's age by the percentage of the team's total minutes he plays. still not perfect- doesn't take into account injuries, or perfectly reflect rookies who will be key players in a few season. but if you want to talk numbers not sure if you can do much better.

having a little extra time at work , i ran the knicks' numbers and got a weighted average age of 25.7 years. not gonna do the whole league, but will do a few sample teams when i get a chance. interesting teams could be grizz celtics (true lottery/rebuilding teams) spurs heat (win now teams) mavs suns (top flite teams with youth). requests?

finally having some fun with Excel...

Sounds good. Let me know how it turns out. I agree that taking minutes into account is probably the best way to go. I think overall, we'll find that the result is that the Knicks are average or slightly better than average in terms of youth.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Francis is an All-Star. It's always a great boost when a team gets back an All Star

I've said this before - WAIVE FRANCIS. I'd rather play Mardy Collins 35minutes a game than ever let Francis play for the Knicks again.

Or don't waive him, let him go to rehab in Memphis.

OK- slow day at work so here's what i've got.

refresher- basically weighted each player's age by the percentage of team's total minutes he played.

Atlanta 23.64
Boston 23.75
Memphis 24.51
New York 25.69
Chicago 26.02
Dallas 27.00
Phoenix 27.67
Miami 28.65
San Antonio 30.37

a few random thoughts/analyses/observations:

-you CAN win with relative youth
-we're closer to the ages of the competitive teams than the rebuilding ones
-renaldo has played 4 minutes less than jeffries
-nate has played 148 minutes more than francis

maybe more later

Dolan closed the wallet. We're stuck with him.

i think in the offseason, francis' agent will negotiate for a 2 year deal with cleveland, miami, houston, clippers, or the lakers and he will sign with them. leaving us to pay the difference. it could be as much as $10 mil (2 year MLE deal) or as little as $2 mil (vet minimum). so we'll either have to fork over between $30-38 mil.

my money is that he ends up with the clippers (now that livingston's done).

I think this is bologna. If Francis felt he wasn't ready to play the season less than a week ago, then he's still not ready. This is what makes the Knicks such a lousy organization. They did it with Ewing, Dice, Camby, Houston, Glen Rice, and now Marbury and Francis. If these guys are injured, they need all the time they can get, and Isiah and Dolan have to stop being selfish pricks and just let them heal up. We're not going anywhere, anyway, so what's the point? Just ride on Nate and Marbury (Driving him to the ground even more) and see what they can do.

Francis is not at fault for this. It's the organization as a whole for being so impatient.
