damn, i can't even remember seeing Wilkerson out there... i guess he didn't make much of an impact... probably more of a special teams guy, huh?

anyway, having depth at the DT position is great, but we need to use our picks to get in some LBs & DBs first & foremost... i think Robbins is gonna be Pro-Bowl this season... & Kiwanuka's gonna be a star... i'm not as worried about the D-Line as i am about who's in the defensive backfield.

Oh I don't think we should draft a DT, I think we should sign one of the guys I mentioned above. There are several decent options so this is one thing you want to hit in FA.

It's sort of a chicken and the egg thing, but the DL is your first line of defense. You can generate pressure up front, you're DB's don't have to cover guys as long and you can get away with having guys like Madison, Webster, McQ back there. Just take a look at the 2000 Giants. They had an exceptional DL and got a lot of pass rush from their front 4, and were playing Dave Thomas, Emmanuel McDaniel and Reggie Stephens at CB. Yet they still got to the superbowl. You can also point to when the Giants played well defensively the last 3 years- they were racking up a lot of sacks.

If Spagnuolo comes in with a system similar to the Eagles, they will need to rotate the guys up front. Eagles were able to bring a lot of pressure b/c they keep throwing a ton of guys at you. Take a look at Juqua Thomas, Trent Cole, Sam Rayburn...thos guys got a lot of sacks b/c they came in fresh and rushing the passer. Eagles DB's are excellent, but I wonder how much of their success over the years has been b/c the Eagles get so much pressure and force offenses to make quick decisions. Hopefully Spagnuolo can come in and install that type of play here.

they run a lot of elaborate blitz packages from their DB's also tho... i think that has a lot to do w/how disruptive their defense is... i agree about having a lot of depth up front... i just think we have bigger holes to fill first, that's all i'm saying.

anyway, i'm psyched about this offseason... there are some good names out there to be had if we play our cards right... when are we picking overall btw?

We pick 20th overall.

New bit of news. WR Kevin Curtis of the Rams is visiting the Giants.

interesting... i would've thought the plan was to use Sinorice Moss more in the passing game this year... i guess this is just to get more depth to insure against Toomer's age & health issues going into next season?

Yeah I think he duplicates Moss. Toomer actually restructured, so he's staying and he's within the plans. And actually this year's WR class in the draft is deep and there are several starting quality players. So this is interesting. They might think Toomer might not be all the ready for the start of next year.

Porter just signed w/MIA for $32 mil over 5 years ($20 mil guaranteed), so scratch him off the shopping list.

That's way too much for a 30+ year old guy. BTW, if TJ Duckett signs with the Lions expect the Bell talks to heat up. Actually, they might put Kevin Jones on the block instead.

i hear Lance Briggs is making a lot of noise about not wanting to play in CHI anymore after they put that franchise tag on him... i think he's going to hold out & try to force a trade.

Yeah but the Bears are asking for a first round pick and Briggs likely to command 8-10 mil a year with a 20 mil bonus in this market. Not worth the cost.

i'd give up a mid 1st rounder for Briggs easily... he's a proven commodity in the prime of his career.

the salary is another issue... it would depend if we could fit him under the cap & still address our other needs in the secondary, but add him to the roster & that pretty much takes care of the hole at LBer.

If you sign Briggs that's pretty much the end of your offseason. You might be able to add a couple of minimal salary guys, but nothing more than depth.

i think the Giants have about $17 mil to spend under the cap, no? i know they had a little over $9 mil before all the cuts were made.

Yeah, but re-signing O'Hara knocked off about 4-5 mil. Briggs would probably cost another 8-9 mil, and you have to keep some for rookies. Giants would have to split 3-5 mil amongst what's left to fill holes.

FYI...

Adam Schefter of the NFL Network reports that the contract signed by tackle Luke Petitgout with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is worth $15.5 million over three years, with a $3 million signing bonus. Original reports were that the Bucs would pay $6 million over three years

Looks like Jay Feely is gonna sign with Miami. We're gonna need to get a kicker too.

John Hall might be a decent pickup since he has experience kicking at Giants Stadium during his days w/the Jets & Skins too
