damn, i can't even remember seeing Wilkerson out there... i guess he didn't make much of an impact... probably more of a special teams guy, huh?
anyway, having depth at the DT position is great, but we need to use our picks to get in some LBs & DBs first & foremost... i think Robbins is gonna be Pro-Bowl this season... & Kiwanuka's gonna be a star... i'm not as worried about the D-Line as i am about who's in the defensive backfield.
Oh I don't think we should draft a DT, I think we should sign one of the guys I mentioned above. There are several decent options so this is one thing you want to hit in FA.
It's sort of a chicken and the egg thing, but the DL is your first line of defense. You can generate pressure up front, you're DB's don't have to cover guys as long and you can get away with having guys like Madison, Webster, McQ back there. Just take a look at the 2000 Giants. They had an exceptional DL and got a lot of pass rush from their front 4, and were playing Dave Thomas, Emmanuel McDaniel and Reggie Stephens at CB. Yet they still got to the superbowl. You can also point to when the Giants played well defensively the last 3 years- they were racking up a lot of sacks.
If Spagnuolo comes in with a system similar to the Eagles, they will need to rotate the guys up front. Eagles were able to bring a lot of pressure b/c they keep throwing a ton of guys at you. Take a look at Juqua Thomas, Trent Cole, Sam Rayburn...thos guys got a lot of sacks b/c they came in fresh and rushing the passer. Eagles DB's are excellent, but I wonder how much of their success over the years has been b/c the Eagles get so much pressure and force offenses to make quick decisions. Hopefully Spagnuolo can come in and install that type of play here.
