Mardy looks solid. It's frustrating that he got so many DNP-CDs only because of his salary.

While I won't argue that guys like JJ1 and Jeffries might be getting PT because of their contracts, I think Mardy was collecting DNPs because IT did not have confidence he could run the offense.

The guy just needs some burn. The more he plays you can see the reason why Isiah drafted him. He's a solid defender and he's careful with the ball. Just when you think he doesn't have any offense, he'll surprise you with a nice move. He's actually faster on D than offense, which is weird. Most guys look faster on O. We needed a bigger guard and Isiah was right to take him. LIke Balkman, he's just what this team needed defensively.

So play Collins for 10 to 15 mpg beside Marbury and give slightly less min to Crawford and Francis. You know Isiah would have done that if Mardy had a 5 year, $30 mil (MLE) contract. That's all I meant by salary affecting his playing time.

Second look at Mardy last night: He just knows how to disrupt ball handlers and sees the passing lanes well. If he has any offense (And I think he does.) he can really contribute.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

Mardy will be lucky to be in the NBA after his contract expires.

The only way he stays on will be because of his defense. But even then he's only an average NBA defender.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

To me, he still looks like he is playing nervous. With the exception of the steal and layup, he was making silly turn overs unforced. I know the entire team does it, but this is the first time we're seeing Collins so its not like we have much to go off of. I think if he gets consistent minutes he can be a good backup point guard. If he develops a jump shot, he can be a charlie ward kind of player.

Oh how I love snap, but expert, judgements based on two games and a total of approximately 30 minutes of playing time

You can't tell that from how little we've seen him.

hey Mardy came from the hard nose defense of the famous Chaney over at Temple.

He will remind us alot like another Temple alumni, Aaron Mckie who played good defense, decent ballhandler and pass 1st, shoot 2nd mentality.

Isiah knows young talent so whatever he's trying to build on , he confidently comfortable selecting Mardy Collins.

Bonn - what, you can't predict a players NBA career from his rookie season total of 206 minutes?

Mardy played for that maniac John Chaney. That would lend one to believe he knows something about hard work.

If he dedicates himself to work on his shot, it could get interesting.

Mardy was perfect in the role Isiah played in last night in Atlanta.

Yeah, he is exactly like McKie, a solid but unspectacular guard that plays good defense. I think he has more point guard in him than McKie did and he is a little taller. I think he will be a solid backup PG and SG for us and if his offense develops, I think it is conceivable that he could turn into a starting caliber player. His defense is already very solid.

How can you even say that? He already plays defense better than most rookies guards (in fact probably better than alot of experienced guards) and he has PG skills. Even if all he does is develop at a regular pace, I think he has enough game to stick in the league beyond his rookie contract simply because a) he is a 6'6" guard that can run the point, 2) he looks to be an above average defender who can guard opposing 1s and 2s, 3) he is going to create matchup problems for opposing 1s, and 4) he seems to be a heady player.

I'm a fan of Mardy and love what he's done lately, but lets not get carried away about him guarding Power Forwards, he did it against the Hawks, who don't really qualify as a 'smart' basketball team.

Look no matter how you slice it. It's clear that Isiah made yet another good pick. The guy can play and he's just getting started. He was an even worse shooter at the beginning of the year and I predict he'll improve in that regard. He has VERY little game experience, but he's been holding it down for the most part. He's a player that this team needed and i'm happy to see him getting a lot more PT.

He gives us a flexibility we didn't have. He was doing pretty good when he gaurded J. Johnson. He was perfect feeding Steph and Francis. Just a solid looking player.

He is an interesting talent now that he's found some assemblance of a shot.

Earlier in the year he didn't look like he belonged in the league.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)
