I never said LEE wasn't a first pick, i never said first picks were BAD.
Now you're not even reacting to my points, you're looking for things to nit-pick. Pay attention!
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Taking into account youth, draft picks, and salaries, I picked 26-29.

why didn't you just put yourself out there by identifying which teams you think have a worse future than the Knicks instead of making some non-descript poll based on some ambiguous numerical estimate like "26-29 teams have better futures than we do"? that way we can have some back & forth on your picks.

Fair enough. Here is my list of teams that I think have a worse future than the Knicks:

Forget about all that- just take into account ownership. We're screwed as long as Dolan is associated with this franchise.
That point alone is actually more compelling than any point I listed.

I picked 0-5, if we play our cards right, from now on. If not, then we're definately up around 21-25.
I'll never trust this' team again.

The reason I would second a 21-25 chance is because we have the money. No other team comes close and most teams could not compete as much as we could, if we made good management decisions. So, we have the money, and it's tied up, but what to do? What to do?..........
I'll never trust this' team again.

Granted, Polls are just our opinions. BUT this poll is not about our opinion on how things are now, something we can at least pretend top know something about, but its about how things stand in the ~~FUTURE~~ which is also something that is subject to your opinion and which we can't know about without applying our current understanding. See the incongruence? Applying our current lens to a future problem, and then add in your opinions and biases on top of that. I'd venture to guess anyone who actually bothered to VOTE on this poll will vote with their current feelings and we'll see a lot of votes indicating how the Knicks have no future and every other team is better. Thats what i expect.

It's like asking, what is your opinion on the opinion you will have in two years? How can anyone answer this question and take themselves seriously?

You're off. Of course any opinion requires assumptions based on probabilities. For example, one opinion might be that if Isiah is able to trade Jerome James, Steve Francis and Malik Rose for Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom, then the Knicks will win atleast one championship. Here the probability of occurrence is approaching 0, but the "then" clause is debateable. You may or may not agree but, as long as your assumptions are well spelled out, you can have a reasonable argument. Its obvious that in assessing the future you have to make more assumptions, but it remains an excellent excercise in thinking about what options may be open and what a realistic endpoint is for this team. Its a critical function of what GMS do. And what we, as fans, like to do. The poll itself is not flawed.

The Sixers jump the Knicks if they get a top 3 pick this year. I'd put the Jazz over them because they have 3 young all star caliber players in Okur, Boozer and Deron (close). Indy still has a franchise player in O'Neal so I'd put them ahead too.

26-29. Even the Hawks are in better shape.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

So between the next 2 to 4 years, the thread starters definition of "future", you believe that those 5-6 teams are the only ones who will surpass the Knicks level of success?

I'm focusing on the 4 years part of it.

Would your opinion change if you judged it on a 2-4 year basis?

Two, yes, because some of the aging teams can still be good within that timeframe. I don't really see that as a better future.

So you think the Suns wouldn't have a better future? with Barbosa, Diaw, Stoudamire?

I think they will take a big step back without Nash, so no.

Do you think that it's more or less likely that a team with the Knicks cap problems and who still owe 1 first round pick in the next 4 years in addition to potentially having to swap picks this year will be more successful in 2-4 years than a team that has been built well and is currently having success?
