Knicks = Ishtar

You are too old to be posting here if you remember Ishtar.

I went to the movies to see that on a date as a pre/early teen...The relationship was doomed after that..

LB owns the minds and the souls of those coaches from the UNC frat houses..

Every coach has a fraternal friend or two in the league.

Except Isiah.

Not only do his opponents loath him, but even the franchise that hangs his jersey from their rafters wants little to nothing to do with him.

Odd, no?

You mean like how we are showing our love for Patrick??

First off, let's not compare Patrick's managerial charisma with Isiah's. Patrick was never a vocal leader and I doubt he's a real x/o type guy either. He's probably a career assistant coach at best, while Isiah's had multiple opportunities to GM, coach and even own a minor league. Isiah has also been available to Detroit for a lot longer than Patrick has to NY. Isiah retired in '94 while Patrick retired in 2002.

When you speak of the love, or lack thereof, that "we" are showing Patrick, you really mean the love "Isiah" is showing Patrick, as Isiah took over the season following Patrick's retirement.

I know you are not keeping track but the leading candidate to replace Flip is Isiah...

1. And just 14 years and 5 or 6 jobs after he left. Whatever wounds, or distrusts, there were sure seem to be taking some time to heal.

2. According to what sources? Simply because Isiah' has been, ala Larry Brown, ostentatiously schmoozing them through the press while working here?

3. We should be so lucky, but we're probably stuck with Isiah for a while.

I hope we are stuck with Isiah...But the talk is if Flip gets fired, they want Isiah...I hope thats not the case....you guys forget the Knicks was mismanaged the last 30 years...They couldn't get another player next to Patrick...

you referring to this:

http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/44736/20070216/obrien_up_for_detroit_job_if_flip_bolts/
A source tells Charley Walters that former Celtics and 76ers coach Jim O'Brien would be the front-runner for the Pistons job if Flip Saunders were to leave to coach his alma mater Gophers.

Speculation has been rampant for several weeks now that Saunders might bolt Detroit to coach the University of Minnesota.

No was listening to Mike and Mad Dog...I forgot who it was but they said that Detroit wanted Isiah if he was available...I heard that on SAS as well I think...not sure...If Zeke was available he would be the front-runner...

Right...All the Knicks GM need to do was find an offensive playe to put next to Patrick and they couldn't do that...Two trips to the Finals..One was a fluke during the shortened season...Rest you hat on that if you will...The best the other GM's could of was get old and tired players next to Patrick...Kiki,Ro Blackman,X, Cheeks, and D. Harper...Not one player to compliment Pat in 13 years of his prime...

Are you really a Knicks fan?

I hate on teams that actually suck. You're hating on teams that made it to the Finals.

Bro, I was at every home game during the Finals against Houston...Our GMs back then sucked hard...How is it in 15 years you are unable to get a player to compliment Patrick Ewing...If thats hating then I guess I'm not a fan as you say...

Was at the Rangers games as well...i know you would love that...

to be fair, though, you're calling them bad GMs because they didn't deliver a championship. IT hasn't even gotten us a playoff win.

IT hasn't had enough time to win a championship. but to elevate him based on what this team *might* do if all goes really well is a definite reach.

No...I call them bad GMs because they wasn't able to get one player to compliment Ewing in 15 years of play...Be honest, If Isiah had the same opportunity, do you have any doubt he would be able to get a player to help Ewing???

and what would that one player help accomplish? a championship? it's definitely a different situation inheriting ewing vs what IT got, but IT only has the same treading water outcome to his tenure so far. our youth are not a sure thing to become contenders.

honestly? i think IT has done a poor job getting complementary talent for his premier acquisitions here. so i'm not sold on him being able to get that perfect player for ewing either. but that's my opinion. if you have nothing but counterfactuals to support your claim that IT is a superior GM, you have to realize you're not going to convince everyone.

Absolutely. Since when did Isiah become a championship builder?

It's amazing, you rip those GM's and Finals teams but you do nothing but praise Isiah's Reign. That doesn't add up.

Looks like we found another one of Isiah's moles.

actually, the DID bring in players to compliment ewing...you do not go deep in the playoffs or into the finals without complimentary players. and let's be real, they were one shot away from winning a title.

they didn't bring a STAR complimentary player to play next to him, but to say they didn't bring in complimentary players would be a lie.

Dude, you are delusional.

Do you recall that Michael Jordan played at the same time as Ewing? How many times were Ewing's Knicks eliminated by Jordan's Bulls? No small obstacle.

Today we be lucky if we get out of 10th place in the conference. Give me a break.

BTW, which of Isiah's players has been to an All-Star game while with the team?
How about All-defensive team?
Hmm...

I can think of a few that did one or the other (or both) with the Knicks while Ewing was here:
Starks
Oakley
Mark Jackson
Allan Houston
Sprewell

Then there were the hi level competitors:
LJ
Mason
Harper
etc.

We were always a single position away.
In the early years we needed an upgrade at SG (Gerald Wilkens sucked)
Later it was the SF (Charles Smith sucked)
Later at the PG (Charlie Ward/Chris Childs never delivered enough)

What do we have now?!
No SG.
No SF.
No defense.
4 redundant combo guards, none of which will get any better than they are today (maybe Nate, but he's 5'7" for christ's sake!).
No defensive big.
No reliable shooter.
Hmmm....

What am I delusional about....Were the Knicks not trying to add a compliment to Ewing for about 15 years...Sure the Knicks was stopped by Jordan and the Bulls...Jordan got Pippen...Who did Patrick have??

Panos just mentioned the 7 different all stars that Ewing played with.

You're killing other GM's for not acquiring another All Time Top 50 player, like Pippen, when you praise Isiah all day long for acquiring not a single all star.

You complain and complain about the Knicks not having anyone to compliment Ewing, yet you don't complain about the Knicks NOT having a franchise player for them to even worry about having players to compliment him.

Yet it's constantly praise Isiah, praise Isiah, praise Isiah.

marbury and curry are isiah's franchise players - he gave up 4 unprotected #1's for them.

his lone lotto pick was frye. he gave away lotto picks in 04, 06, and possibly 07. and owes one more unprotected pick between 08-10.
