It just goes along with the common theme of us trying to reinvent the wheel in order to win championships. Instead of taking a step back and building the way every champion on the planet has done. We choose to ignore the draft and fiscal responsibility and instead try to "starphuch" our way to a title
I just hope that people will like me

It was always about the bottom line, yeah those playoff runs were great but we never got the supporting cast for Ewing. When we finally got the outside shooter(H2O) here comes ANDREW LANG!! We're cursed I tell ya

I am not sure if we really ignored the draft. During our heyday, Riley and JVG days, we were always picking in the mid to late 1st round. I count 3 years that we kinda sliced the punt for a 15 yarder. The Sky Walker draft. The French toast draft and Sweetney.

speaking of draft: isiah traded away our #1 in 2004 (probably in the 7-10 range), our #1 in 2006 (top 5 range), our own #1 in 2007 (6-12 range), and another unprotected #1 either in 08, 09, or 2010.

in return, he has marbury, curry, and some late first round complimentary talent. and also blew the cap all to hell through 2010 (at the earliest).

so i ask all of you, if you could do it all over again, would you trade eddy, marbury and the cap space to keep our own #1's and shed salary?

The one draft that kinda hurt us is the 2003 draft. Thanks Layden.

Instead of Sweetney, we could have gotten any of the following..

10. Jarvis Hayes
11. Pietrus
12. Collison
13. Marcus Banks
14. Ridnour
21. Diaw
25. Delfino
28. Barbosa
29. J. Howard

I was really pining for Collison, Pietrus, Barbosa, Diaw and Lampe...Ha Ha Ha..Lampe...Hey, no one is perfect.

'99 was even worse for obvious reasons. French toast over Artest.

This is the thing I don't understand about the knicks-

Draft history has sucked.

#1 value of any NBA Franchise

Spends more money on player salaries than any other team

Potential to spend more money on scouts & talent evaluators than all other franchises (correct me if I am wrong)

Huh?

I love a city like San Antonio- but how on earth does a sleepy city like that have a NBA Franchise that consistently picks up great talent in the first round?

sheesh

Dontae' Jones
Walter McCarty
John Wallace

How difficult is it to miss on three first round picks in the same draft class?

To be fair, the only notables after John Wallace in that draft were...

20. Big Z
24. D. Fisher
26. JYD
30. O. Harrington
33. Moochie Norris
37. J. McInnis
44. Malik Rose

I guess we could have gotten the Big Z and D. Fisher.

To be fair???
We picked 3 small fowards in the SAME draft.
We should have picked wallace, Big Z, and then either mccarthey or jones. We had the 18th,19th, and 21st picks.
Terrible picking at the time.
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

The thinking back then was that we had a pretty good center in Ewing but I get your point. Hindsight is 20/20.

maybe this is why I'm inclined to give Isiah a chance - seriously, look at that draft record before he got here. ick.

This is the sort of the thing that makes it shocking that we ever made the playoffs.

We did add Mason and Starks from CBA in the early 90s though and that was obviously huge.

I don't mind having Isiah coach. Maybe we can do it like football and hire a defensive coordinator.

Although I've heard players say that defensive is about effort and desire...

The sad thing is I would love to have Isiah draft for us until he croaks but there doesn't seem to be any way that Dolan will take away the GM/Coaching responsibilities and keep him on for drafting.

Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please
