Let's face it, there is not better coverage of the Knicks than this forum..It's the reason I show up daily....I would even venture to say that in some ways this forum is the pulse of whats happening with the Knicks..It would almost be foolish for a sports writer who is not necessarily on the beat not to glance to see what's the latest talk of the Knick town is...Also a beat writer will glance to see what the concerns are for the people who root for the Knicks...So running with a few ideas found here and putting it in print isn't far fetched at all...
Agreed 100%
Theres no doubt writers check out these sites, they are in the business of selling papers and if you want to sell papers, you might as well write about what people want to read about.
It's not just that they are in the business of selling papers. Writers are not gods. They do not see everything. Let's face it: Fans who contribute regularly on this site have a pretty good handle on this team. We watch the games, read about the games/team, discuss the games/team. If I were a writer in a tough market like NY, I would want any advantage I can get. In the age of the Internet, that clearly means going to as many fan sites as possible and reading everything I can on the team I am covering.
It's like this: The writers want to talk to the fans to know what they are thinking. If a writer is in a bar sitting next to a fan, of course he will discuss the team with the fan. Or he will discuss the team with fellow writers. You always want to get as many opinions as possible. This way, you might realize things about the team that you would not have thought of on your own. Think of a message board as a way of "talking" to the fans, or at least soliciting their thoughts. I don't think there's a writer out there who would not agree this is an important, if not essential, part of the job.
