I just think we'll get a franchise player in the next 2 years who will help us to get 50 before the Lakers win it.

Just curious... how do you think we are going to get a franchise player? Or are you just making a random prediction?

Through our frivolous owner...

If NBA rules allowed our "frivolous owner" to simply go out and buy a franchise player, we may have won a title or two over the past few years. But Unfortunately, unlike in baseball, the NBA has a salary cap that prevents us from simply going out and signing franchise players as free agents.

Dolan is not, nor never will be on Steinbrenner's level. Not even close.

Dolan doesn't even have 1/4 of the passion Steinbrenner has in winning.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Absolutely, 100 percent agree. But the point is, if the NBA worked like baseball, with no salary cap, we would be able to sign virtually any free agent we wanted, including the elite of the elite. No one has deeper pockets or is more willing to spend than Dolan. Obviously, he has spent foolishly. But that's largely (not exclusively) because he is unable to go out and sign the best players. So instead, he goes out and trades for overpaid players whom no one else wants.

Bucher: The Lakers win an NBA title. Because they're not that far away now and their young players look more promising than anything in Boston or New York.

wow... i guess Andrew Bynum is so much more promising than Eddy Curry... Maurice Evans & Ronny Turiaf are so much better than David Lee & Channing Frye... Renaldo who? Hey, the Lakers got Kwame Brown son! he's the truth!

*barf*

Bynum *IS* more promising than Eddy Curry. He plays on both sides of the ball. The Lakers ALSO have Odom and Kobe. Kwame's not a bad defender either, although he is a bust for the #1 pick. Give the Lakers some credit. They're pretty good and improving quickly. I have kept in touch with them a bit since my gf is a Lakers fan.

You forgot Radmonovic, Farmar, Parker, and Walton. I think Better was a poor hoice of words. They might be better sooner than what the Knicks have because they are all older(Most of the Lakers guys are 24, 25), but I also think that some if not all of their young guys fit their system. We have guys (Channing, Nate) that don't fit our system too well.

All the Lakers youth is:
Parker-25
Farmar-20
Walton-26
Radmonovic-26
Brian Cook-25
Turiaf-24
Brown-24
Bynum-19(Turns 20 in freakin' OCTOBER!)

The Knicks youth is:
Robinson-23
Collins-22
Crawford-26
Richardson-26
Jefferies-26
Balkman-22
Lee-23
Frye-23
Curry-24

By the way Jared is actually 25. Anyway. The Lakers are very talented and so are the Knicks. The Lakers are much more consistent at this point, so of course they look like they're gonna win a Title soon. I think the Knicks are certainly capable of reaching 50 wins soon as well.

Let's just look at the East and what's going on. You have the Wiz, Pistons, Cavs, Bulls, Pacers, Magic, Raptors and Nets with 20 or more wins and the Knicks aren't far behind at 19 wins. We're basically a good week away from being right at the top of the Atlantic and in the middle of the pack in the East. You KNOW that we're not that far behind teams like the Wiz. We can play with anyone, but since were still developing as a team we're a bit inconsistent. That will go away in time. Let's not forget that this is basically the 1st year that this group has really had a chance to jell. Last year was so bad that we got almost nothing out of it. That won't be the case next year.

Look, all it takes is for this team to start a season as a real team, which should happen next year. More familiarity and cohesion to start the year should help a LOT. Just look at the progression so far. 6-11 in Nov. 7-9 in Dec. and 6-6 so far in Jan. There's a chance that this team is starting to build and if we keep this up and end the year strong, that can help for next year and then who knows?

Good post. I touched on most of those guys in the post that followed. Like I said, overall, talent-wise, it's probably close, but I agree that the Lakers guys really fit their system while ours is just a group of talented players, where half of them don't fit the system.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.
