Camby is a center and Nene plays both center and PF. He overpaid for K-Mart, but he thought that was the *last* piece they needed. Frankly, had K-Mart and Nene stayed healthy, I'm not convinced he was wrong, provided they had been able to upgrade at the two, like they finally did this year with Smith.
Still, with a Camby and Nene frontline, where does K-mart play? SF? He overpaid for K-mart and forgot about a SG. No thanks on Kiki.

No, silly. Between C and PF there's 96 minutes available. K-Mart and Camby each play about 30+ minutes per game, which leaves 30+ mpg left over for Nene and another backup. I don't see the controversy. Big men help you win in the NBA. I thought the K-Mart move was bad because of how much they paid, but overall, Kiki turned Raef LaFrentz, Antonio McDyess, Nick Van Exel into Camby, K-Mart, Nene, Melo, Dre Miller and Voshon Lenard in the course of like two years. I can't see how anyone could say he didn't do a fantastic job. This was a perennial 30 win team that got good very quickly and would be even better if not for injuries. Can you imagine now a healthy K-Mart and Nene to put on the team they have now? Camby, K-Mart, Nene, Melo, AI, Smith, Najera, etc... that team would win the NBA championship a few times, IMHO.
Solace, the talent is there! No Doubt! The whole point is he overpaid for a injury prone PF he didn't need as bad as he needed to replace Voshon Learned. Thats silly!

I agree that SG was a hole for that team. I still can't argue with K-Mart. Another line of thought on that was that he was going to trade Nene for a good SG, which is a realistic scenario. That never happened, because Nene has also been injury prone, and every time he was about to be traded, he got injured.

I absolutely agree with balancing a team, but sometimes circumstance gets in the way.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

He was trading Nene for a SG cause K-mart was already damaged goods from the injuries. I always thought K-mart was a product of the NJ system. Good defender, decent rebounder but not healthy! Too high of a risk to give someone like that a max contract.

Kiki's not a great GM. He's just being diplomatic to get a job somewhere, anywhere.

We all agree that overpaying K-Mart plus 3 picks was a bad move, even pre-injury. Had they waited, they could've had Vince Carter for less. Still, overall, Kiki did a very good job. He took the Nuggets from awful to a perennial playoff team which is getting better and better.

Its not good enough to be a perfect fit. Yeah, I'll take him, but thats not saying much is it? I'd rather have Ernie. Kiki is overrated.

In the 2002 draft, Kiki took Tskitishvili and Nene instead of Amare and Butler.

Yep. But they only had the Nene pick because Kiki was smart enough to trade McDyess for Camby and Nene, which is a BRILLIANT trade. You can't knock him for that draft, without giving him huge props at the same time. And Tskitshvilli had everyone fooled. Busts happen. Nene over Amare is, frankly, completely understandable, at that time.
