Last year Shaq was better than Curry in all areas of the game. He put up more points (despite deferring to Dwyane Wade) on an even higher FG% than Curry. He also had 2 more rebounds, double the assists, and tripple the blocks.

I think with a couple more years of hardwork and commitment, Curry could become about 90%-95% as good as Shaq was last year. He is not as big as Shaq and will not be as much of a defensive presence, but Curry can definitely surpass Shaq's scoring from last year and I think he will be a better freethrow shooter. He will lag behind in blocks and rebounds. IT is trying to build a championship team like the Pistons. Instead of having one or two superstars and a bunch of role players, we are trying to develop a team of five very solid players with Curry as the focal point on offense.

good signs:

he's learning to not barrel people over with his shoulder.

he's picking kup fewer early fouls, especially offensive ones.

showing more stamina.

he's bouncing back better after poor games, as opposed to his folding for long stretches as he has in the past.

bad signs:

rebounding. after a nice stretch of double-figure board games, he's reverted back, including several 3-rebound games. the guy can't continie to live off of david lee's boarding and just stand around rather than fight for it.

defense. he's gotta move more. hustle, seal off, chase guys who beat the guards and go to the rim.

in tems of development? i was very pleasently surprised by his board work earler this season, and now he's regressed. he's gotta learn that 20+ points is not the measuring stick of a successful game for him. he's gotta bust it on the defensive end and realize that it's his job to protect and dominate the goal at the defensive end.

he's surprised me at times this year so i'll still say it could happen. but he's gotta bring it every single night, and that's still a huge challenge and one that we don't knowe if he's gonna be up to.

Great post Marv.

Curry is as good as Shaq in his post game. This being Curry at 24 vs. Shaq at 34. Shaq is still better in every other aspect of the game - defense, passing out of the post (huge), blocking shots, rebounding, leadership, team play.

Curry is a one-dimensional player. Shaq has never been. There really is no comparison, even this late in Shaq's career.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

What is scary to me is that during the Seattle game I thing on his first hook shot in the pain after getting double teamed and fouled, curry proceeded to tell Crawford "too easy, too easy" with this smirk.

Curry has improved leaps and bounds from just last year. He has also made improvements from early this year.

Fellas, say hello to the bad guy. He is on his way.

I'm with Bonn and Marv. Lets see him improve his defense before we can mention the 2 in the same 30 page essay.

Shaq: never played on a losing team. Dominating 2 way player

Curry: one dimensional scorer who has never played winning basketball in the NBA

Curry is 23. Plenty of time to make history.

He's 24, but more importantly, I find it very discouraging that he has not shown any improvement in any aspects of his game other than scoring from within 8 feet. I really hope that he improves but it scares me that our franchise is in his hands.

a score is a score no matter how it comes. Shaq makes a living scoring from 5ft. Curry is big enough and great around the basket. I don't ever see Curry out on the perimeter knocking jumpers or fading away. Not with that body. If only he could work on his D..passing should get better with age

Lol i dont think its that crazy of a comparison.

Hes Shaq at 24
LAL 51 51 38.1 .557 .000 .484 3.8 8.7 12.5 3.1 0.9 2.9 2.86 3.50 26.2

Obviously not comparable. Shaq in his prime was Shaq in his prime. Heres Shaq last year,
MIA 59 58 30.6 .600 .000 .469 2.9 6.3 9.2 1.9 0.4 1.8 2.85 3.90 20.0

and Curry this year
06-07 NYK 36 36 33.6 .574 .000 .583 2.4 4.7 7.2 0.7 0.4 0.6 3.25 3.40 18.7

Def similar, and I think that Currys averages will be around 20/8 by years end. If the improvement in this guys game keeps up, where do you think he will be in a couple years?

I thought that was Bonn's way of saying "Absolutly" ;)

I wasn't criticizing him for scoring close to the basket; he's great at that. I was criticizing him for improving in no other aspects of the game.

well, i cna't stand shaq but i respect his game. curry is much better this year than previous years but shaq has the intangibles that curry lacks. shaq changes a game with his presence. he is an intimdator on both ends and his leadership skills are unquestionable. he gets his team motivated better than any center since maybe hakeem ( though zo in his prime had decent leadership skills). he is a good shot blocker though not great since he does not want to have the stigma of a center who gets dunked on. but his rebounding is remarkable. he uses his size and foot speed to his advantage. with that said, curry is starting to use his size in the post well. offensively, not many can stop him one on one if any (he always gave ben wallace a run for his money in the post). his passing in the post, like someone has mentioned, has become exponentially better this year than last. the biggest thing is his psyche. he is more confident now than ever with thomas giving him the encouragement and positive reinforcement he needs to succeed. he is starting to relish being the "man". however he is in the low end of the first teir of centers compared to shaq, ming, wallace and howard ( bosh is a pf in my book) and needs to improve throughout the year. consistency is the key.
