No excuses.

i agree.
coming off a draining Detroit game,

1...
changing 3 time zones,

2...
without Quentin's outside offense and Nate's energy,

3 and 4...
This is a young Knicks team still learning in starts and speed bumps.

5!

Five excuses!

by the way, we only go 2-3 if we win tonight...

That's freaking hysterical.

stop crucifying Marbury for every single word.

2-3 on the west coast, coming off a draining Detroit game, changing 3 time zones, without Quentin's outside offense and Nate's energy, is not bad. No excuses. This is a young Knicks team still learning in starts and speed bumps.

Not bad

That is all he said

Marbury never said 2-3 was the goal

sheesh

Excellent points in both of your post Misterearl. This thread reads like a Fox news report. Bill O'Reilly couldn't be more slanted.

Ha ya, what got me laughing was hearing in my head, "5! 5 excuses", then seeing the count holding up 3 fingers.

The Knicks have NEVER done well on West Coast swings. Even in the Ewing era, that was always our achillies heal. I think it is for most East Coast teams anyway.

I don't quite get the whole 5-1 expectations from some (was it DJ?). I think 2-3 was a more realistic goal, and 3-2 would have been nice.

DJ didn't say he expected the team to go 5-1, he said they HAVE to go 5-1 because of the upcoming schedule after the west-coast swing.

JesseDark - there are moments, when you take inventory of the hostile spirit injected into most of the postage on this site and one might ask, "how many people simply resent the Knicks players for what they represent, despite how they perform on the floor?"

It's the idea of a bunch of millionaires in shorts, who don't deserve the privledge in the first place, being held in low esteem by the same people who are employed to communicate the story.

The storyliine?

Isiah Thomas has destroyed the franchise. He must die.

on the other hand

If the Knicks made the playoffs, won a round or (heaven forbid) even made a conference championship, would it stop the stream of complaints about how Isiah Thomas "looks" on the sideline, how Larry Brown was smarter, how Marbury should never utter another word, or that the only thing that is important is whether David Lee starts or not?

As for the actual topic, I think people are blowing this out of proportion. Of course I would love to see Marbury aim high, desperately wanting all 5 games, but he is saying what many of us, myself included, were thinking even before we dropped the first 3. 2-3 is not bad, it's something you can live with, especially facing the West.
Everyone knows Steph isn't the smartest person infront of reporters, so why bother listening? Is it really going to change your oppinion of him at this point?

Anyways, we still have one more game tonight and we have to show up. 2-3 is ok but 1-4 IS bad.

DJ didn't say he expected the team to go 5-1, he said they HAVE to go 5-1 because of the upcoming schedule after the west-coast swing.

I stand corrected then. Yet, that's still pretty lofty expectations for a mediocre team, at best, right now.

The next 3 games are all winnable, then we play the Wiz, a inconsistent Nets team, and two other pretty mediocre teams in Indiana (who is better than us) and a very beatable Miami team. Then the Suns (probably an L, but we've been surprised before) and the Heat again, the Bucks on the road, the Lakers and the Bobcats.

That isn't THAT bad of a schedule after the West Coast swing, but I could see it going either way. This team is an enigma, and I don't think any of us can make any really viable predictions about how they will perform. They have shown the ability to play well at times, and other times look lost and hopeless. Which one will show over the rest of the month? I say proabably both. Hopefully more of Dr. Jeckle than Mr. Hyde, but you never know...

Here we go again with the crap about how "some people" don't like IT and the payers because of "what they represent". If you are going to go into that crap, than at least grow some balls, and say outright that you think "some people" resent rich black athletes. Either way, you are full of it. To try and blame resentment towards a failing GM, and crappy players on trivial racism is weak.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Marbury said such stupid stuff in the past that this one isn't really a big deal.

First of all, Marbury made that comment after the Portland game! We are 1-3 after the win against the Blazers. Its not like he said 2-3 aint bad before the road trip. It was after the fact.

As a guy that is not sensitive to anything that is not ultimately positive I didn't find this to be a bash at all. I found it to be just enlightening about how low our expectations are.

Winning 35 games is "not bad". Going 2-3 is "not bad". Doing okay at home is "not bad". Marbs is not a bad guyt for saying what he said. It just makes me sad that this topic is even a topic that our players are discussing. They don't seem to be upset with being under .500. To winners 2-3 is "always bad". I'd really like to see our players talking about how they can improve and make trips 4-1 and 5-0 instead of being okay with mediocrity.

Elite don't be surprised by all this stuff. This organization has been settling since the day Ewing left. We are perfectly okay with winning 35 games if that somehow gets us in the playoffs. The focus is no longer on trying to build a team to be dominant it's about you know, "just doing okay". We need to bring some winners into theis organization to obliterate this attitude.

We all know it's going to take time to get better. Everyone knows this. But hungry guys that would kill to win are never okay with losing. We need guys like that.

I like Marbs the past two weeks or so. He seems to have bought in to the system and is trying to lead. I respect that. But Marbs is one of a few guys on our roster that has played a long time and not won. They don't understand the killer mentality. HE needs to be taught as much as anyone on this roster. We need to bring in a few guys to help them. To take the reins and teach them the problem with settling. Then maybe those same guys can do some seminars for the public and teach some of these fans out here about the dangers of settling. We need an intervention!!!!!!
I just hope that people will like me

It's an example acknowledging reality. They have already lost three games on the trip.

Would you prefer it if he was delusional?

It's the "its not bad" part. It is bad. It's like missing the playoffs then winning the last game of the season and saying "its not bad". Sorry, no dice.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

I can't fault him for that. If the Knicks somehow lose tonight, and he tries to spin that, then I would agree.
